The only real source for this is the old state atlas, but a shippers directory from the period calls it a post office, and I'm not finding anything to refute that. The county history doesn't mention it, and there's nothing there. Searching is a bit confounded by the multiplicity of spellings but other than the one hit they all come up empty. • Comment: I found the 1876 Indiana atlas cited by USGS but I don't see a Madalline or Medelline on it. Nor does it appear on a more detailed Union Township map in the 1874 atlas of Parke County.. However, a "Medalline" does appear on an 1872 county map.. Of course the all-time Indiana place name buff Ronald Baker has it in his book (p.207) merely saying "Madalline [mad-uhl-EEN] (Parke). A post office called Medelline, variant spelling, was established on February 9, 1852; closed on June 5, 1862." A 1955 history of Rockville National Bank includes Medelline in a list of post offices it says existed in 1863, noting "Can anyone in the County today give the locations of all these places? It is doubtful, indeed!". An 1857 US post office directory lists Medelline with the delightfully named "Absalom Sappenfield" as postmaster.. Absalom died in 1881 and is buried in the county, though not where Medelline is claimed to have been located. Seems pretty likely this isn't going to survive, so my comment here may be history's finest collection of knowledge on the location.--Milowent • hasspoken 20:40, 18 September 2025 (UTC)

A comment on the Indiana History map copy: they have apparently omitted text pages which are essential to understanding the mas which they did reproduce. If you look on any of the maps, besides the bigger, labelled cities/towns, there are lots of little spots which apparently represent smaller towns, and none of these have labels. I have to assume there is some key which tells what these were, but I haven't seen it. As it stands the maps are mostly useless. Mangoe (talk) 11:41, 28 September 2025 (UTC)
  • Delete none of the sources discussed above are sufficient to support an article. We need more, IMO, for even a redirect. Eluchil404 (talk) 16:50, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
