Proposal to merge Megalon article

Megalon only appeared in one film and is nowhere near as notable as other Kaiju that should have their own articles, like Rodan and King Ghidorah. I think it would be best for the existing article to be merged here. Additionally, there was consensus to merge / delete the article back in 2008, but it looks like it wasn't actioned. Additionally, other kaiju that I would argue are more notable, like Destoroyah, do not have their own articles. IngeniousPachyderm (talk) 14:56, 3 June 2026 (UTC)

Merge, though to a different article. Barring the nominator's Wikipedia:ITSNOTIMPORTANT rationale, this merge is to a draft article, which I feel isn't particularly helpful at this point since that draft is nowhere near fleshed out enough for mainspacing yet. While I am not opposed to merging myself this feels better off being done once the list is in a mainspaced, complete state, rather than a heavily WIP draft article.

However, I have no opposition if editors want it merged to Godzilla vs. Megalon, a mainspaced article and Megalon's one significantly notable appearance. Given Megalon's one film role, all information about him is entirely tied to that film role, so it doesn't really quite make sense to keep him separate. Even later appearances tend to just reference it as an extension of the film rather than of the character in particular.

I would also be remiss not to point out that Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Megalon (2nd nomination) was closed as Keep. Not to say it inherently should be, but there are some points there that may be helpful to look into (Notably User:Paleface Jack/Megalon (revision) which is a WIP rewrite of the article). Paleface Jack has done some fantastic work so far, but I personally feel as though there still isn't a lot of separation here since most of the article is largely about the film's development and subsequent reception, rather than discussing in particular the character of Megalon's significance. Reception-wise I can't find much that isn't just covering the one film instead, and given his lack of major further appearances there isn't more dev info that would make a split more helpful (Such as to track the overall development timeline of the character following this film). If other editors would prefer this worked on first I am not opposed since at worst it just leaves us with a quality article once it is finished, but for now I am still of the mind that I do not see a separate split rationale here, and much of the sourced information above would likely benefit the main film article more significantly than a split would. • Oppose merge, and keep article - The suggested merge point is currently a draft, and not in the mainspace, which doesn't qualify a reason to merge the content at all. It just feels unnecessary to merge content into a draft that is currently sitting in the draftspace. GojiraFan1954 (talk) 11:44, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
• Merge to Godzilla vs. Megalon - The kaiju only had one major film appearance and pretty much all sources are in regards to its development and portrayal in that one film. • Weak keep per the revised draft from the previous deletion discussion, which fleshes out Megalon heavily. The reception is still rather weak and uses some content farm sites in its sourcing that should be removed, but clearly demonstrates Megalon's impact on subsequent media and culture as an iconic Godzilla kaiju.
