• I did two test edits in userspace, one for creating a contestant page, the other for resetting for a new round. Tenshi! (Talk page) 20:29, 21 December 2025 (UTC)

• Thanks for pulling this together. When this has come up before, one stumbling block has been whether to automate the resetting. A judge previously suggested to me that it would be better for this to be manually triggered, rather than automatic, as judges must be happy that the round is final and there are no outstanding scoring issues before everyone's submissions pages are wiped. Occasionally this causes a delay in the start of a round. This feature could be implemented through some form of basic password known only to the judges (there is no real reason to abuse this function so I don't think it would need to be anything complicated). However, creating new pages could be automatic (so I guess that does introduce some complexity).
• A couple of other small things - firstly, how does the bot know which round it is? At the moment you have round=0. Perhaps you could ask the judge to confirm? And, relatedly, I wouldn't hard-code which year it is, I think it would be better to determine that from the current date (with a correction that Dec of year X is part of year X+1).   I agree that it should be manually triggered rather than automatic, for the reasons you outline above. The bot doesn't know what round it is, I was thinking that it would be easier to update it manually to avoid automatic resetting. The year is hardcoded currently as I don't know if BAG will want to do a trial before 2026, and I don't want to deal with changing my computer's system clock for a trial.

  Regarding it being only triggerable via judges, I could try doing some OAuth verification for a toolforge webpage trigger. Tenshi! (Talk page) 13:25, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
