Category:Wonder Boy series

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: keep. (non-admin closure) JBchrch talk 23:40, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Propose renaming Category:Wonder Boy series to Category:Wonder Boy
Nominator's rationale: Speedy move was opposed, however main article is entitled Wonder Boy without the disambiguation, so it corresponds to the main article. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 22:23, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Why was it opposed? Please copy the speedy discussion here. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:00, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
It is on the talk page of the category, but was opposed because "Wonder Boy is ambiguous". However it is not because the video game series page is the primary topic. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 21:32, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Oppose, to prevent confusion with Wonder Boy (film) and Wonder Boy (comics). Marcocapelle (talk) 07:05, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Extraordinary Writ (talk) 19:59, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

  • By the way, Category:Wonder Boy (video games) may be a clearer name. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:07, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Oppose The proposed title would suggest that the category covers the classic character from Quality Comics. Dimadick (talk) 04:00, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Oppose. Just as Dimadick mentioned the renaming would lead users astray. Nothing against Category:Wonder Boy (video games). --Just N. (talk) 10:49, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: soft delete (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 05:24, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: This just has two travelers-turned-speakers, a politician, and an environmental organization. Too vague and broad to be a useful category. Reywas92Talk 16:50, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Comment "Too vague and broad to be a useful category." I agree, indeed. Unclear what would make it a useful category. Any proposals? --Just N. (talk) 10:57, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: keep (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 14:10, 3 April 2022 (UTC)
  • Propose deleting Category:Sports events affected by the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: Do we really need a category for one entry? Even the parent categories Category:Events affected by the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and Category:Impact of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine on sports are empty apart from this subcategory. --Another Believer (Talk) 15:54, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Support per nom. Laurel Lodged (talk) 16:37, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Comment Isn't there more to add to the category? The next F1 season and some European football tournaments spring to mind. And IIRC, the Paralympics were "affected" by the exclusion of Russian athletes. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:25, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Support per nom. --Just N. (talk) 10:57, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
  • @Another Believer, Laurel Lodged, and Lugnuts: meanwhile the category is populated better, will that change your opinion? Marcocapelle (talk) 05:31, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
Oh yes, obvious keep now. Thanks for the ping! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:58, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
+1 ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:06, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: merge (rather than rename, because the target already exists) (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 05:34, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: The contents is about the state, not the nationality. Manual purge might be better though. Laurel Lodged (talk) 15:11, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

Category:South Dublin (county)

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: no consensus (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 05:39, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: No reason to use disambiguating term in brackets. The category can include the same note as the page South Dublin, distinguishing it from Southside, Dublin. Iveagh Gardens (talk) 08:54, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Oppose Notes on articles can be read in the article; not so with categories which carry no such notes when listed at the bottom of an article. Instead, categories must carry all their information in their title; disambiguaors are often necessary therefore, as is the case with this candidate. Laurel Lodged (talk) 09:48, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Marcocapelle (talk) 07:29, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Support Redundant disambiguation. Category scope has to be defined in the category's own description. Dimadick (talk) 04:08, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Keep. Most users would be liable to confuse the issue. 'South Dublin' seems to mean the southern part of the Irish capital and not the county beyound the city borders. --Just N. (talk) 11:07, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Latgalians (modern). (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 17:28, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:SMALLCAT, currently only one article. Merging to parent Category:Latvian writers is unneeded because the article is already in Category:20th-century Latvian poets. Note there are less than 200.000 Latgalian-speaking people in Latvia. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:33, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

Category:Latgalian art historians

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. There's nothing to merge: Jānis Pujāts (art historian), the only article in this category, is already in both Category:Latgalians (modern) and Category:Latvian art historians. (non-admin closure) Extraordinary Writ (talk) 18:47, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:OCEGRS, unrelated intersection of occupation with ethnicity. Also WP:SMALLCAT applies. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:24, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
