- Rename Category:Governors of Spanish Texas to Category:Governors of New Philippines.
- Nominator's rationale This category refers to the governors of a province in New Spain. The province was called New Philippines. It was less than half the size of modern Texas by area. The catrgory for people from here is now called Category:People from New Philippines so this rename will put this category in line with thst one.John Pack Lambert (talk) 21:56, 20 December 2025 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Merge per Nyttend. * Pppery * it has begun... 01:53, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
- Propose Merging Category:Prince Hall Masonic Lodges to Category:Prince Hall Masonic buildings in the United States
- Nominator's rationale: WP:OVERLAPCAT
- The Prince Hall Freemasonry is a primarily African-American organization and the merge topic follows the category tree naming of Category:Masonic buildings in the United States. There is also a Masonic lodges tree focused on organizational articles but I don't think we need both here because the articles focus more on NRHP heritage listed clubhouses. Neither category contains articles outside the United States but no objection to creating a broader international category later if/when articles are published. - RevelationDirect (talk) 10:56, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose. Masonic lodges (the organisations) typically aren't notable, and virtually all articles about Masonic locations in the US are about the buildings, which are often notable as historic sites. I expected to vote "merge", but one of the two articles in this category is African Lodge No. 459, about the lodge itself; it doesn't belong in the proposed target. Move the category's other article, Prince Hall Masonic Temple (Los Angeles, California), to the proposed target, then move Lodge 459 to a better place and then delete the category. Nyttend (talk) 04:43, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
- I think it would work to move 459 into this category's parents — Category:Prince Hall Freemasonry and Category:Masonic Lodges. If we did that, we'd have just one remaining article, the Los Angeles temple, which could then be merged per nom. Nyttend (talk) 04:44, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
- A great suggestion! RevelationDirect (talk) 12:43, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
- Rename per nom.I have worked on some of these articles and see no issue with the proposed merger. All Prince Hall lodges are, in fact, Prince Hall buildings. Rublamb (talk) 17:58, 21 December 2025 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Keep * Pppery * it has begun... 23:45, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- Propose Renaming Category:Religious buildings and structures in the Land of the Cross-Tipped Churches to Category:Land of the Cross-Tipped Churches
- Nominator's rationale: WP:CATNAME and WP:C2D, consistency with main article's name
The Land of the Cross-Tipped Churches is a group of Catholic Church buildings in Western Ohio listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a Thematic Resource. The proposed new name follows the main article and, since this is a religious building grouping, the current name is unnecessarily wordy. Normally I'd run this through the speedy renaming process but, way back in 2010, the category was created by a consensus in CFD to split an earlier category so I'm bringing it back here for refinement. - RevelationDirect (talk) 10:56, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
- Ping Pinging the editors from that earlier conversation who are still active: @Nyttend, Hugo999, and Mike Selinker: - RevelationDirect (talk) 10:56, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
- Isn't religious buildings and structures exactly the point of the category? As discussed before, if we aren't specific about it, anything might be added to the category, potentially entirely unrelated to religion, and that is not the intention. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:59, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
- This is definitely a religious buildings and structures category and I'm not trying to change that scope. I'm just wondering if the longer title is helpful given the religious name and the context provided at Land of the Cross-Tipped Churches. RevelationDirect (talk) 14:33, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
- Keep. It feels like the category is defining the buildings more than it is defining the place. Mike Selinker (talk) 20:13, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
- Keep; it wouldn't be particularly helpful to have a category name that sounds like it includes articles like William Luelleman House, Marion Local Schools (surprised we don't have an article about this school district), Ohio State Route 119, and Grand Lake St. Marys Lighthouse. For another Ohio example — years ago, over at Commons, the Hoover Dam category somehow was a disambiguation page between the categories for Hoover Dam and Hoover Dam (Ohio), but it kept getting filled up with pictures of the worldwide-known dam because people assumed that the category covered it. Category names need to match what we'd expect people to put into the categories, because people can put articles there without reading scope notes at the top of the categories. Nyttend (talk) 04:35, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
- Merge per nom. I'd really prefer the much shorter category name and think it's sufficient. -- Just N. (talk) 22:44, 27 December 2025 (UTC)
- User:Justus Nussbaum, do you mean "rename"? If not, with what category do you want it to be merged? Nyttend (talk) 10:12, 29 December 2025 (UTC)

- Keep per the many other similar, equally destructive ones. Current situation with a logical, well-balanced structure in e.g. Category:College men's soccer players in North Carolina (and similar) is much more user-friendly than the proposed solution. Fram (talk) 09:43, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- Keep per Fram though I would hesitate to use the word 'destructive'. Single-article categories are allowed on Wikipedia and in this case the likelihood that other articles can be added to them is quite high. --Habst (talk) 15:05, 12 December 2025 (UTC)

- Merge Category:Cowley Tigers men's soccer players to Category:Cowley Tigers and Category:College men's soccer players in Kansas
- Delete Category:Cowley Tigers men's soccer
- Delete Category:Cowley Tigers soccer
- Nominator's rationale This one article category does not help navigation. The 2 categories nominated for deletion only have the one article in them, so right now we have 3 categories for a total of one article. This merging will make sure this article shares all categories with at least one other article.John Pack Lambert (talk) 18:11, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

- Keep pêr the many similar ones. Category:College men's soccer players in Kansas works better as it is now (with the subcats) than after the upmerge would be done (with individual athletes dumped in it). Fram (talk) 09:44, 12 December 2025 (UTC)

- Merge Category:Truman Falcons men's soccer players to Category:College men's soccer players in Illinois
- Nominator's rationale This is a 1 article category. The merge target is the only parent to this category. This is overly narrow and does not help navigation.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:45, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

- Keep, very helpful for navigation between articles. E.g. emoving the 5 small categories from Category:College men's soccer players in Illinois and dumping these players directly in the cat is not helping any reader. Fram (talk) 09:36, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- Yes it is. It makes it possible to navigate between the articles without having to search through extremely small often one article categories.John Pack Lambert (talk) 14:07, 12 December 2025 (UTC)

- Merge Category:Brevard Tornados men's soccer players to Category:College men's soccer players in North Carolina and Category:Brevard Tornados athletes
- Merge Category:Brevard Tornados women's soccer players to Category:College women's soccer players in the United States and Category:Brevard Tornados athletes
- Delete Category:Brevard Tornados men's soccer
- Delete Category:Brevard Tornados women's soccer
- Delete Category:Brevard Tornados soccer
- Nominator's rationale The 2 categories proposed to be merged each have 1 article. The 5 categories for Brevard Tornados soccer have 2 articles total. This is excessive and makes navigation hard. This merger will place the articles in Brevard Tornados athletes, which has 1 direct article, 1 multi-article category, and another 1 article category which has already been nominated to be merged into that category. This merger will help navigation.John Pack Lambert (talk) 18:24, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Merge * Pppery * it has begun... 23:43, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Tatar topics to Category:Tatar peoples
- Nominator's rationale: The main topic categories for the various Tatar groups has become Category:Tatar peoples. Some sub-categories (history, culture) are stranded at Category:Tatar topics. This distinction is not helpful. Note that, in accordance with guideline WP:COPSEP, the category for individual biography articles is different (at Category:Tatar people) and is not affected by this proposal. Place Clichy (talk) 20:43, 11 December 2025 (UTC)
- Merge per nom. Although I do have to wonder if Category:Tatar ethnic groups might be a better name.John Pack Lambert (talk) 21:57, 11 December 2025 (UTC)
- Weak support, "topics" is not the best descriptor of a category, although we use it occasionally. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:07, 12 December 2025 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Category:Asiatic black bears to Category:Asian black bears
- Nominator's rationale: The main article is Asian black bear, but it is unclear if the title of this category should be singular or plural. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 02:13, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
