Nominator's rationale: Rename to match article name. I initially speedied it but since I had split the surname info off to a seperate article and renamed this article to focus on the Clan Cockburn itself, it was opposed as speedy. Omnis Scientia (talk) 23:14, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

Category:Aftermath of the Titanic

The result of the discussion was: no consensus. User was a sockpuppet account and has been blocked. closing this since it is at a stalemate and the category will be deleted/has been emptied in any case. (non-admin closure) Omnis Scientia (talk) 20:38, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Upmerge since Category:Sinking of RMS Titanic (and, to an extent, Category:RMS Titanic) was already doing what this category was created to do. There is a lot of WP:OVERLAP there and it is also extremely vague since almost everything related to the sinking, other than the event itself, come into "aftermath." Omnis Scientia (talk) 18:46, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge per nom. If kept, it should be renamed Category:Aftermath of the Titanic disaster to match Aftermath of the Titanic disaster, since the current name doesn't really make sense. The target should also be renamed Category:Sinking of the Titanic to match Sinking of the Titanic. Mclay1 (talk) 11:16, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
@Mclay1, I noticed the old categories weren't renamed when the articles were; I will speedy them later. Omnis Scientia (talk) 11:37, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
  • I am not convinced by the overlap, we can relatively easy make a distinction here. For example Animals aboard the Titanic is clearly not about aftermath. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:04, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
@Marcocapelle, that's in the main Category:RMS Titanic, not in the sinking event category. The articles related to the sinking itself can be in both Category:Sinking of RMS Titanic as well as the nominated one about the "aftermath." There is no need a rather vague third category when there are several other better defined ones already doing the work. Omnis Scientia (talk) 12:36, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
@Marcocapelle, I'd also say the Category:RMS Titanic is a pretty big tree as is and Category:Sinking of RMS Titanic is not so big as to need any further subcategorization. Majority of articles in "Aftermath" are already in "Sinking", minus two created by the category's creator. Omnis Scientia (talk) 12:49, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
Animals aboard the Titanic is actually currently in Category:Sinking of RMS Titanic. Thinking about it, it's even hard to make a distinction between the main category and the sinking category, because most of the articles about the Titanic are going to be related to its sinking, since it sank on its maiden voyage and that's what it's famous for. It didn't really do anything else. Mclay1 (talk) 15:07, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
@Mclay1 and @Marcocapelle, I see it was moved to that, yesterday; I cleaned up the categories a while back and it was always in Category:RMS Titanic. Moved back now. --> Omnis Scientia (talk) 15:48, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
@Mclay1, I wouldn't be too sure! Yes it was made famous by the sinking, but it's a very wide ranging subject outside the sinking itself if you dive into it, and the amount of articles about the ship itself which aren't directly about the sinking reflect that. Omnis Scientia (talk) 16:03, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Just clean up. The subcategories of Category:Sinking of RMS Titanic may be moved to Category:RMS Titanic or Category:Aftermath of the Titanic and a number of articles too. As nom said earlier, there are only few articles about the sinking itself, but probably just enough to keep the category. Marcocapelle (talk) 23:11, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
@Marcocapelle, I've cleaned them up. I don't know why this one user has placed everything where it doesn't belong without explanation but I've cleaned up as best as I can. As far as I can tell, only three articles apply as "aftermath", two are inquiries but they are related to the sinking, as are the changes - both happened because of the sinking. So there is still WP:OVERLAP. Omnis Scientia (talk) 23:45, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
@Marcocapelle, wanted to ask if you saw the most recent reply to your clean up suggestion - and I've done even more of it since. There are only three articles now related, IMO, strictly to aftermath, which are also in the merge target since they are tied with the sinking too - the subcategories definitely don't belong there IMO, since they are about the sinking, not the aftermath at all. Omnis Scientia (talk) 18:09, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
    • @Omnis Scientia: I'd suggest also moving Agreement Concerning the Shipwrecked Vessel RMS Titanic to the aftermath category. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:11, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
@Marcocapelle, at risk of coming off as arguing - and I hope it doesn't - that isn't related to "aftermath" which consists of events/period immediately after going by dictionary defintion. It's a law that came 70 years after, which rather stretches the definition of what consists of "aftermath" IMO. And even if you do count everything that happened afterwards since 1912, that's just four articles in total which fit easily in the rest of the subcategories already present, and three overlap already as it happens. It rather reinforces my opinion as to how vague it is as a category. Omnis Scientia (talk) 21:08, 27 April 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Move the subcat of book covers up into Category:Philip K. Category:American dramatists and playwrights

  • Nominator's rationale we have Category:Novelists from Alabama and most other states and Category:Poets from Alabama and most other states. Due to the biggest diffusion of American dramatists and playwrights at the moment being by century and by century overlapping a lot it is hard to say how many articles we have here. It looks to be about 2000 at a minimum that is the 1600 plus in the 20th-century Category plus the 400 plus not diffused. The 19th-century Category has under 200 and the 21st-century has over 600. With roughly 2000 articles the per state average would be about 40 articles. Some people will legitimately belong in multiple categories, although I think we need to make sure this is based on a clearly defining link to the state and not a short fleeting one. Some states will have a lot more articles that others, but I think with thse numbers diffusion is justified.John Pack Lambert (talk) 16:20, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Split per nom but keep Category:American dramatists and playwrights for consistency with its poet/novelist/etc counterparts. This could have been done boldly per precedent with the [Category:Poets/novelists from X] categories. ミラP@Miraclepine 13:01, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Editors do not need permission to split a category.--User:Namiba 18:29, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
  • That is, it is not needed unless the intention is to delete the original category after splitting, but that is not the case here. Nevertheless, considering it will be a huge effort, it is not a bad idea to check any opposition upfront. Personally I am not thrilled by the proposal, in the spirit of WP:OCLOCATION, but at the same time I realize that almost every other occupation has been diffused this way too. So I will neither support nor oppose any future merge-back proposal. Marcocapelle (talk) 01:03, 18 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment I think it would be good if large scale creation of categories was done with the actual seeking of community consensus. This will probably create 50 new categories. And with the volume of articles that need to be reviewed will take quite some time.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:47, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Question Would people support the placement of people under Category:American librettists in this category? Musical theater librettists are already under [(:Category:American dramatists and playwrights]]. Librettists are essentially dramatists/playwrights creating works where large amount if the dialogue is set to music. It would seem to me to be a way to avoid too many categories if at the state level we treated these closely related professions as one.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:47, 19 April 2026 (UTC)

Category:People exiled to Mauritius

Nominator's rationale: Orphan category, with no other of the same type (i.e. People exiled to...). —— Eric LiuTalkGuestbook 16:18, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Weak support, I do not have an objection per se, I am just afraid we cannot populate the category decently. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:11, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
  • I was apparently mistaken about the latter. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:43, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep, 7 articles now, probably more could be added. Similar categories could probably be created for a number of locations. Fram (talk) 08:54, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep A new category tree should be created by destination of exile. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 04:03, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
  • I started building that tree with cats for Réunion and French Algeria, which work fine, but I see a problem with Category:People exiled to France. Many exiles in Metro France had to leave their home countries, but chose France rather than being compelled to go there, e.g. Raúl Ruiz (director) – one of many thousands who left Chile in 1973 for various destinations. So those who went to France were not "exiled to France" like those sent to Mauritius, Réunion or French Algeria. So should we exclude categorisation by destination for people who could choose where to go? or use a broader naming pattern, e.g. "People exiled in France" or "Exiles in France"? or allow inconsistent names "to"/"in", in order to cover the two situations as accurately as possible? – Fayenatic London 21:50, 25 April 2026 (UTC)
Probably "Exiles in France" is better. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 04:17, 26 April 2026 (UTC)
    • Agree with "Exiles in France". Marcocapelle (talk) 05:12, 26 April 2026 (UTC)
      • Consistently? So, Category:Exiles in Mauritius for this one? – Fayenatic London 21:25, 26 April 2026 (UTC)
        YEs. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 22:27, 26 April 2026 (UTC)
        • I am in doubt. On the one hand I agree for consistency, on the other hand questioning should it be consistent because it is quite a different situation anyway. Marcocapelle (talk) 03:13, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment I really think these categories only make sense in cases where people were explicitly sent there. Exiles in France is just a sub-cat of expatriates in France, and people go there for all sorts of reasons. This especially gets tricky because in many cases the line between "exciles" who are clearly compelled to go and "political refugees" who leave because they would rather not go to jail if they remain is very thin. The other thing is most people exciled to a specific place are moved by a regime to an area it actually controls, so they are not fully expatriates because they still are in an area controlled by that regime. So I think we should limit these categories to people explicitly sent to a specific area, and not try to make it a sub-cat of expatriates.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:17, 27 April 2026 (UTC)

I'm not against that, but in that case it should be Category:Brunner (rugby league club) players, as rugby league isn't a proper name. Armbrust The Homunculus 06:24, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Support as proposed. (Brunner Rugby League Club seems to be the precise name of the club.) Nurg (talk) 07:19, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: The current name is ambiguous, see Blackball. This is also why Jayson Shaw, a pool player who never played rugby league, was also in the category. Armbrust The Homunculus 03:57, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: underpopulated category, upmerge for now SMasonGarrison 02:13, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: We don't need an intersection at century+sex+ sexual oriention. The category creatory is new, and a tad over eager . BUt I don't think we're at the point were we need to a threeway intersection. SMasonGarrison 02:01, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Redundant category layers, upmerge for now. Each is already in a country specific Buildings and structures in FOO category. SMasonGarrison 01:34, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: My speedy rename to Category:Soviet military personnel of World War II by republic was opposed without a clear alternative solution. I think that we should either upmerge or rename. SMasonGarrison 01:17, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge, "by origin" is an unusual diffusion criterion. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:53, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge: Diffusion doesn't seem needed, and the wording is non-standard. Mclay1 (talk) 11:10, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
