The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Artemis Fowl and other parents. (non-admin closure)LaundryPizza03 (d) 04:18, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: The individual articles for almost every character in the Artemis Fowl series were redirected to the list in ~2007 or a few years afterwards, and are appropriately categorized by Category:Artemis Fowl character redirects to lists. Having a character category for one character and the character list article is not helpful for navigation; the "Characters in X" categories can be added to each of the two extant articles, and redirects to lists made a subcategory of the series category. ScalarFactor (talk) 17:32, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
  • @ScalarFactor: shouldn't it be merged to the other parent categories too? Marcocapelle (talk) 22:29, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
@Marcocapelle: Possibly - I'm not entirely familiar with the specifics of how multi-level merges like this work at CfD, relatively new to this venue. I was planning to add Artemis Fowl II and List of Artemis Fowl characters to Category:Characters in fantasy literature, etc. ScalarFactor (talk) 22:41, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
    • @ScalarFactor: it is better to list them as additional merge target here. Suppose the discussion would end in keep or no consensus for whatever reason, then you would have to revert your manual additions. If you just add them here as additional merge targets you don't have to bother about that anymore. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:48, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Alternative upmerge Category:Artemis Fowl character redirects to lists to Category:Artemis Fowl characters, no idea why we have these silly "redirects to lists" categories: categories should be for readers or for actual maintenance, but these do neither. Many of the recirects in such "redirects to lists" categories aren't even redirects to lists but redirects to general articles (e.g. Meggie Folchart), but the template automatically labels them "redirects to lists". Fram (talk) 08:21, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
  • I am also not aware of the exact purpose of these redirects to lists categories. For sure it is of very little use to readers, because you can't directly navigate from one redirect to another. For readers the mere existence of the list article suffices, all available information is in that article. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:57, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge to all subcats - two articles is not enough for a category, merging the redirect category is an actively bad idea. (Oinkers42) (talk) 15:07, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: merge or reverse merge, largely overlapping scope. Both Eastern Galicia and Red Ruthenia were the southwest of current-day Ukraine and a strip of current-day southeastern Poland. I will tag both categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 14:08, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary parent category. The subcategories linking to and from one another is sufficient. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 06:06, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:22, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete per nom.John Pack Lambert (talk) 00:01, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep. I disagree that the subcategories linking to and from each other are sufficient, as not all of them do that. An overarching parent category is needed to enable easy navigation. I will note that there are now five subcategories listed, as opposed to two, and as such, this will likely need to be relisted. Additionally, I would discourage rushing deletion, as I believe the nominee does, as opposed to allowing users to populate and expand categorisation as they intend to do (which I would have done had I not been sick this last week). I would like to say I do often feel discouraged from creating new categories that I see a clear need to exist, such as this (as there are numerous notable works of this artist not yet covered) and the category is not given the opportunity to be well populated before it's put up for deletion. It frustrates me because this probably wouldn't even be an issue if it weren't for the fact that other users are, by and large, not creating categories (songs by artist, songs written by, album covers, etc) for recently notable topics when creating articles and building a pre-established variety of categories related to the main topic, which in this instance would prove the parent category's necessity from the get-go. I believe I have tried to discuss this issue (being incredibly hasty to deletion) with said user before, to no avail. (I have held suspicions for a while that the nominee also tracks my edits in order to nominate recently created categories for deletion, but I don't know if that is me reading too much into things, but it has been something of a pattern—I would just like to put that out there and ask the question). Sean Stephens (talk) 15:37, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
  • "I disagree that the subcategories linking to and from each other are sufficient, as not all of them do that." I do not follow this. Firstly, "all of them" is "both of them" in this case, because there are only two subcategories. And second, they do link to each other. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:32, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
  • That's my fault. I was tired last night and forgot which ones transclude automatically and which ones don't. There should be at least 5 there now. Sean Stephens (talk) 23:41, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
  • We do not need the new subcategories as they are entirely overlapping with the existing categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:24, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Exactly. So to justify this category, you created to additional categories that each contain the same exact content as the songs category. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 23:59, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
