  • Support the renaming. Nominator's rationale is in line with reality, thus, in line with the way a reader would expect it to flow. It would also bring it in line with with other similar categories. Mercy11 (talk) 00:05, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Support. This is a common-sense renaming. Improves consistency across Wikipedia, is more concise, and as Mercy11 pointed out, is more accurate. Redvelvetvanilaaaaaaaaa (talk) 19:40, 5 May 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Only one applicable article. Arctic Circle System (talk) 22:47, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure). GoldRomean (talk) 01:02, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: The official name of this office is the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit. The categories are synonymous and form a category loop. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 19:53, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge to use full name. I would not object if some people want the shorted name, but we only need one category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:12, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Pandya Empire. (non-admin closure) GoldRomean (talk) 03:18, 11 May 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Same topic, categories form a category loop. Main article is at Pandya dynasty. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 19:19, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
If you're wondering, the merge target is at Category:Pandyan dynasty and has been listed for speedy renaming. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 20:00, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Just clean up, Category:Pandyan dynasty should only, or mainly, contain members of the ruling dynasty. Category:Pandyan Empire should not be a subcategory of it. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:12, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
In this case, Category:Pandyan Empire should be renamed to Category:Pandya Empire. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 20:19, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

Category:English Renaissance

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: to remove Category:Tudor England from Category:English Renaissance. Per Fram's reasoning, this resolves the category loop. (non-admin closure) Staraction (talk · contribs) (please ping on reply) 18:24, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: The English Renaissance and Tudor England periods are roughly coterminous, except one is defined sharply as 1485–1603. They form a category loop. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 19:02, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
English Renaissance should be a subcat of Tudor, but should not be merged to it. Tudor is the general term (for politics and so on), English Renaissance is specifically for culture, arts, that kind of stuff. Just remove Tudor as a subcat of English Renaissance, nothing further needs to be done. Fram (talk) 19:12, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Just clean up per Fram. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:16, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
  • What Fram says - we don't talk about "English Tudor drama" etc. Plus English Renaissance would not normally be stopped at 1603. Johnbod (talk) 20:42, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Upmerge; there's only one article in this category, and it makes navigation a bit tedious... - OpalYosutebito 『talk』 『articles I want to eat』 18:15, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
Merge The other genus in this family, Astemmocoris, is a redlink. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 19:55, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: merge/delete. (non-admin closure) –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 00:04, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Nominator's rationale All of these categories are 1 article categories which are too narrow to aid navigation. The first has 1 ariticle on someone who is already in multiple other ambassadors of Argentina categories, so we just have to merge to the Ambassadors to Australia category. The second we merge to both Ambassdors of Argentina and Ambassadors to Angola since this is the only ambassadorship he held, he is mainly notable as a writer. The third is a non-resident ambassadorship, which is a non-notable position and so we should not categorize by. We would still merge to ambassdors of Argentina, except the subject there is also in another ambassadors category and so does not need to be there. I limited this to the A secontion since there are 69 sub-cats, of which probably about half are too narrow and or not defining, but having 30 or so different proposals in 1 nomination would be overwhelming.John Pack Lambert (talk) 14:39, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Only contains one article. (Oinkers42) (talk) 14:32, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Oppose The Parent category contains 3 categories, not one. Then there are Two sub categories which have a decent amount of enteries. The category tree is fairly standard for these type of articles.Blethering Scot 14:58, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge, redundant category layer with only one article and one subcategory. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:20, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

  • Propose renaming Category:1994 Hebron massacre to Category:Cave of the Patriarchs massacre
Nominator's rationale: Main article is Cave of the Patriarchs massacre. Per the category creator's request, I'm bringing this to full rather than speedy. SMasonGarrison 14:13, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
Comment: I did not tell you to bring speedy rename requests here. I asked you to stop bypassing the deletion discussion process. From what I can see in your edit history, you seem to have been depopulating categories and then they get marked for deletion with the reason listed as "empty category". Late Night Coffee (ping me) 14:45, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Rename per main article. This should really be listed at speedy. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:22, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete. I think I did a CfD on this before - there are almost no articles in here. This is only defining for two articles and they're clearly and obviously linked. PARAKANYAA (talk) 19:23, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

  • Nominator's rationale These categories have 1 article, 2 articles and 2 biographical articles plus a list. They are too narrow to aid navigation. There are 8 biographies in total under Category:Ambassadors of Antigua and Barbuda. This is too small a category to justify these narrow sub-categories.John Pack Lambert (talk) 14:11, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
Merge Why not do the rest beginning at A&B? –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 18:39, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
      • For now I limited the nomination to small categories which are clearly ambassadors. How to treat gtovernment representatives who served to multi-national boadies is a slightly seperate issue. I was trying to keep the nomination as clearly all on one topic as possible.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:17, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: rename/merge, in 1385 one dynasty was succeeded by the next but that is not sufficient reason to split treaties of the Kingdom of Poland in two separate categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:56, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

  • Propose merging Category:1889 establishments in the Basque Country (autonomous community) (1 P) to Category:19th-century establishments in the Basque Country (autonomous community) and Category:1889 establishments in Spain
  • Propose merging Category:1895 establishments in the Basque Country (autonomous community) (1 P) to Category:19th-century establishments in the Basque Country (autonomous community) and Category:1895 establishments in Spain
  • Propose merging Category:1890s in the Basque Country (autonomous community) (2 C, 1 P) to Category:19th century in the Basque Country (autonomous community)
Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:OCYEAR, only one article in each of these categories, this is not helpful for navigation. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:50, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
Merge There are later years in the subcategory tree that should be upmerged as well. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 05:54, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge as anachronistic. The Autonomous Communities of Spain were created by the constitution of 1978. Basque Country (autonomous community) did not exist before 1978. In that article the history section only starts is 1978. This is unjustified anachronism.John Pack Lambert (talk) 14:26, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure). GoldRomean (talk) 01:08, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Some bilateral categories for former Yugoslav states also contain anachronistic Yugoslavia or Serbia & Montenegro bilateral subcategories; I have an AWBREQ query to automatically remove all Yugoslavia subcategories from bilateral relations for its successor states. At this point, it should be cheaper to just remove all expatriate, emigrant, and descent categories from bilateral categories. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 05:37, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete expatriate, emigrants and descent categories do not go in these trees. Bilateral relation categories should be limited to articles on bilaterals relations.John Pack Lambert (talk) 14:24, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Only contents are Meritxell Mateu i Pi and a category nominated below which also contains this article. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 05:12, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete normally I would say merge to Category:Women diplomats, however the one article here is also in the Andorran women ambassadors category and will be merged to Category:Women ambassadors. She does not need to be in both those categories since ambassadors are a sub-cat of diplomats.John Pack Lambert (talk) 14:21, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Small country with 24 unique articles in the category tree. In many cases, postings are of unclear residency or aren't mentioned in the articles, but I've done my best to predict residency for each mission country. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 04:48, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: duel upmerge for now. underpopulated categories that really don't need this level of diffusion. SMasonGarrison 20:02, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge, this is not helpful for navigation. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:49, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Oppose, can easily be populated, and loses entry into 20th c. and 21st c. male writers categories. Fram (talk) 07:44, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
@Fram are you going to populate them? The entire Kurdish male writers category has about 8 people in it. I don't see why we need to diffuse by century for 8 people. SMasonGarrison 20:25, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
There are 31 writers in Category:21st-century Kurdish writers, and 27 in the 20th c. one. There are 87 people in Category:Kurdish poets. Obviously not all of these are male, but a lot more than 8... I'll try to populate them, but it's not for 8 or 10 people only by any means. Fram (talk) 07:58, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge We generally do not do quadruple intersections of ethnicity. This intersects gender, time frame, ethnicity and occupation. Because of ERGS rules that means The to be in this category the articles also need to be in a lot of other parent categories as overlaps. This is just too many things being intersected in one category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:34, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
"We generally do not do quadruple intersections of ethnicity." Except that we do. We have Category:20th-century African-American women writers and 5 similar ones in Category:20th-century African-American women, we have Category:20th-century Native American women academics, Category:20th-century Flemish male actors, Category:20th-century Inuit women musicians, and so on. This is a bog standard intersection. Fram (talk) 13:53, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
You refer to ERGS rules, you probably mean WP:EGRS? You wrote "Because of ERGS rules that means The to be in this category the articles also need to be in a lot of other parent categories as overlaps." Did you want to write two sentences and forgot to finish the first one? Or do you claim that because of ERGS rules the cat has to be in many parent cats? That's not because of ERGS rules, in has to be in those parent cats anyway, so whether we keep these ones or not doesn't change this. What EGRS actually says is that
    • categorization by gender or ethnicity is permitted
    • categorization by gender or ethnicity in combination with an occupation is only permitted if "that combination is itself recognized as a defining topic ".
Changing "20th-century Kurdish male writers" to "Kurdish male writers" has nothing at all to do with EGRS, as the part you exclude, "20th-century", is not part of those rules.
The original nomination, "underpopulated", is an acceptable reason for a CfD (often wrongly applied, but in itself a fair reason to start a discussion). EGRS though has nothing at all to do with this proposed merge, both the existing and the proposed category has the exact same EGRS-effect. Fram (talk) 14:05, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
      • This is not true. This Category existing means we have to have the categories in more neutral 20th-century parents. So both a 20th-century Kurdish writers cat and a 29th-century women writers cat. As we compound the intersections the number of categories we have to leave the articles in goes up.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:12, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
I have no idea what exactly your" this is not true" refers to. I also don't know what your "more neutral" is supposed to mean, there is nothing "more neutral" about having both Kurdish cats and Women cats, but not a Kurdish Women cat. "Number of categories" is not what EGRS is about, EGRS is saying that we should only have a Kurdish writers cat if Kurdish writers is a topic of interest (which it is). • Categories no longer underpopulated: now at 55 and 44 pages (plus 2 and 10 for women), with more to come. Fram (talk) 13:53, 20 April 2026 (UTC)

Relisting comment: Categories are no longer small, but does WP:NARROWCAT or WP:OCEGRS still apply?

  • Delete per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:14, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
The nom is for "underpopulated categories", which is no longer true. Please don't vote "per nom" when the nom is no longer correct. Fram (talk) 07:58, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
And you already voted above as well! Fram (talk) 07:59, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
    • This was supposed to refer to the discussion below. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:53, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
  • This way we are populating the Kurdish tree in the same detail as nationality trees, which WP:EGRS exactly aims to avoid. Kurdish people are already (or should already be) in Iraqi, Turkish or Syrian categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:53, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
But for things like writers, it is in many cases rather essential that they are Kurdish. And the nom would result in EGRS cats anyway, just larger ones. If it is accepted that the ethnicity or language of the writers is a defining characteristic (in many cases probably more so than their nationality), then why would these cats be acceptable for the nationality tree, but not for the ethnicity or language? We have enough such categories for topics where language/ethnicity is important, like Category:21st-century Flemish actresses and Category:21st-century African-American actresses, and should probably create more, not less, in cases (like here) where there are many articles. The actual topic of these cats is of interest, see e.g. this recent book or this or articles like this.
Kurdish literature is a major thing, and erasing categories because they are also divided across the Turkey, Syria, Iraq trees is a very bad move.Fram (talk) 08:18, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
    • EGRS does not imply erasing Kurdish literature altogether, it just implies upmerging subcategories that are based on a non-notable intersection. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:37, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
Which I have just shown to be not applicable here. The intersection of Jurdish writer, gender and period is a typical subject of commentary in reliable sources (plys there are more than enough articles to justify subdividing, I haven't exhausted the available articles when I was populating these). I don't understand why this subdivision is such an issue, or why you think we don't need the Kurdish tree because we have the Turkish or Syrian one. If people are interested in Kurdish literature of a certain period and/or by gender, they should be able to find this in dedicated, well-populated categories directly, not by looking at the Turkish or Iraqi cats. What is actually gained for the readers by removing these categories, which isn't gained by doing the same for e.g. Category:20th-century Turkish male writers ? Does WP:EGRS even apply to the language of a writer? Fram (talk) 16:54, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
Yeah I might've supported deletion but then we have categories like 21st-century Palestinian male writers? Wouldn't that also be a non-nationality quadruple intersection failing WP:EGRS because Palestinians also do not have a sovereign nation-state of their own? What about 21st-century African-American women writers, 21st-century African-American women singers, 21st-century African-American women politicians etc? Presumably those exist because per EGRS "that combination is itself recognized as a defining topic that has already been established (in reliable sources showing substantial existing research specific to the topic)". So has that been proven to not be the case for these Kurdish male categories? Or do those African American categories exist specifically because they are female categories and the aforementioned defining research exists? What about 21st-century African-American male rappers (1000+ members)? Is there a wealth of existing research specifically about the maleness of that intersection? Dubious. Οἶδα (talk) 22:17, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
Palestine is not equivalent – it's a country recognised by most of the world, more than Taiwan, and we treat Taiwan as a country. Palestinian people don't have another nationality. Whereas Kurdish people have a nationality (Iraqi, Turkish, etc.) separate to their ethnicity. Mclay1 (talk) 11:42, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep for now. The categories are now well populated. The whole Kurdish writers tree should be discussed together if we're going to consider deletion. It doesn't make sense to chip bits off in an illogical way. Mclay1 (talk) 11:42, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep Reasonable EGRS category. Deletion arguments based on Kurdistan not being a country don't make sense because this is about Kurds, the ethnic group. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 05:09, 14 July 2026 (UTC)
