The result of the discussion was: no consensus as proposed. Feel free to start a new nomination including far-right politician categories too. Staraction (talk · contribs) 01:56, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: There is no standard definition of far-left that works for an encyclopedia. Omar Fateh is categorized as far-left while being a member of the Democratic Party. Joseph Stalin is as well. This underscores that this lightly-populated category tree is subjective. User:Namiba 21:13, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
Keep. I'd oppose deleting this without also deleting Category:Far-right politicians, which has the same issue. They're equally subjective and it makes no sense to have one but not the other-though on their own merits I'm not sure if we should delete either. Can't we just restrict to those who RS describe as far-left or far-right? PARAKANYAA (talk) 21:22, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
Strong Keep; Almost the same opinion as PARAKANYAA. ProgramT (talk) 06:53, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
Though, if we do keep this the Japanese and Taiwanese ones need to be changed to match the rest. PARAKANYAA (talk) 17:50, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
Your suggestion to delete your category is too broad. It is excessive not only to delete the subcategory "Far-left politicians in the United States", but to delete the "Far-left politician" categories for every country. ProgramT (talk) 08:45, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
  • It would probably be helpful to add far-right politicians to the nomination. I will definitely support a joint deletion. Politicians can only objectively be categorized by the political party they represent, and if readers do not know by heart where a party stands in the political landscape they can read the article about the political party. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:07, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
I don’t think the Category:Far-right politicians and Category:Far-left politicians should be deleted either. Extremists do not necessarily have party affiliation, and they may also be independent. This category is very useful. ProgramT (talk) 08:41, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
I would support that as well. They're both so broad that they are meaningless.--User:Namiba 13:35, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
Rather, in the Far-left politicians category, there is no problem with the “Japanese” or “Taiwanese”, but the title of the other country categories should be changed; see . (For example: Category:Far-left politicians in GermanyCategory:German far-left politicians) ProgramT (talk) 07:29, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep It's not about whether there is an objective definition, but whether they're described by sources as far-left, which is easily verifiable. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 14:30, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

  • Strong Keep; 'organizations' is a broad category, whereas 'political parties' is a narrower one, and this category does not seem likely to be highly controversial. Moreover, I am not the person who first created this category: ProgramT (talk) 06:51, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Unclear separation. There doesn't seem to be any difference in scope? It's not like the person one is more focused on individuals. PARAKANYAA (talk) 21:07, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: merge. (non-admin closure) GoldRomean (talk) 01:54, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Originally this contained the subcategories "films about..." "television about..." and "television episodes about..." However, this was inappropriate for the fiction subcategory, as quite a few entries in those subcategories were not fictional. E.g. Blood in the Face, Louis and the Nazis, Accidental Courtesy: Daryl Davis, Race & America. As is there are only 3 subcategories so I think the existence of a small fiction subcategory does not help navigation. PARAKANYAA (talk) 21:05, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge both this and Category:Neo-Nazism in popular culture into Category:Neo-Nazism as currently a NARROWCAT, although it could probably exist if the subcategories were sufficiently populated. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 14:33, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
I would oppose that, there are six subcategories in both altogether. That seems like more than enough. Having all the media categories go in the main parent is bad. PARAKANYAA (talk) 17:25, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
Related though, we are always inconsistent on whether we do Works about [x] or [x] in popular culture. It drives me mad. PARAKANYAA (talk) 17:25, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

Category:Alumni by high school in Alberta

Nominator's rationale: This is the only Canadian province which uses high school for an alumni category, see Category:Alumni by secondary school in British Columbia, Category:Alumni by secondary school in Ontario, and Category:Alumni by secondary school in Quebec. I think Category:High schools in Canada should also be renamed but that is a different discussion. User:Namiba 20:52, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
  • The articles say "high school" though. @Bearcat: can you provide input here? Marcocapelle (talk) 05:32, 7 August 2026 (UTC)

  • Propose Deleting Category:Name changes due to the George Floyd protests
Nominator's rationale: the spirit of WP:SHAREDNAME, WP:NOTDICTIONARY, and WP:NONDEFINING
During 2020, a number of institutions revisited the racist meanings behind their long established names and finally updated them to be more representative. The old name is often in the intro with maybe a sentence on the rename but that doesn't seem defining as the actual topics have nothing in common creating a jumble of articles unlikely to aid navigation. This includes the Thick-billed longspur bird (née McCown's longspur), Hotel 24 South (Stonewall Jackson Hotel), America's Best Chew (Redman Chewing Tobacco), The Chicks (Dixie Chicks), Edy's Pie (Eskimo Pie), John R. Lewis High School (Robert E. Lee High School), and Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges (King Leopold Mountains). This could still work if we had enough articles specifically on the name changes but we only have Cleveland Indians name and logo controversy and Washington Redskins name controversy while the third one, 2020 Rhode Island Question 1, doesn't mention Mr. Floyd. We already have List of name changes due to the George Floyd protests for any reader interested in this topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 01:34, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

  • Delete I would also argue this over simplifies cause and effect in some of these cases. The movement to rename some of these things pre-dates May 2020 in many cases.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:44, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

  • Propose Deleting Category:Edinburgh Festival performers
  • Propose Deleting Category:Edinburgh Comedy Festival
Nominator's rationale: textbook WP:PERFCAT and WP:NONDEFINING
Greg Davies, Hannah Gadsby, and Space Cowboy are stars who have performed in many venues, including the the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In practice, the comedy subcategory is also a performance category which is not remotely defining for Joan Rivers, John Hegley, or Imran Yusuf. No objections to list articles but this leads to category clutter because prominent performers are prominent because they get booked for many performances. - RevelationDirect (talk) 01:09, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
