Nominator's rationale: Intermediate layers with just 1 child, not useful for navigation. These are very small British territories, and it is not surprising that there isn't as much content as for other, bigger, places. The result of the discussion was: rename (non-admin closure). GoldRomean (talk) 18:52, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Follow naming convention for similar categories (see Category:Student sport in England) and less ambiguous name. Robminchin (talk) 20:56, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
As a bit of background, "Loughborough Sport" is the student sports organisation at Loughborough University, which is (presumably) why the category was named this way. However, the category includes non-student sports organisations based at Loughborough University. Other university categories in Student sport in England are not named after the student sports organisation at the university but instead follow the convention of "Sport at X". Nominator's rationale: rename, the name of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was North-West Frontier Province from 1901 to 2010. Also aligning with Category:North-West Frontier Province. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:51, 10 February 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: keep (non-admin closure). GoldRomean (talk) 19:02, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: I was going to list this under C2D and C2B, but upon seeing that Romani people also exists, I think two actions are in order. My rationale is that Romani is a disambiguation link, and Romani covers the Romani people. - OpalYosutebitotalk』 『articles I want to eat』 16:06, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
Strongly Oppose The existing category for Romani people is for individuals, not any topic related to the Romani as an ethnic group. Having categories like "Romani people in France" will end up clogged with biographies by mistake instead of individuals being placed into sub-categories like Category:French Romani people. Collapsing and confusing these distinctions will be a disaster for categorization. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 16:11, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
Oppose per Bohemian Baltimore. --Like tW (talk, contributions) 17:35, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
Strongly oppose per WP:COPSEP. Many of these categories are not biography categories and should not be treated as such. Arctic Circle System (talk) 06:26, 16 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Lean towards oppose. The nomination is well-intended, but guideline WP:SEPARATE explain why categories about individual people and categories for topic articles are not the same, and it is counter-productive to mix them. Category:Romani people and its children are for individual people. Maybe we could have a better name for the topic category though. Place Clichy (talk) 19:36, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment we probably should Rename Category:Greek Romani people to Category:Romani people in Greece and other similar cases. However that is different from what is proposed here.John Pack Lambert (talk) 23:15, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Oppose per Place Clichy. The categories do not just contain biographies as suggested by the "people" proposal. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:04, 11 February 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure). GoldRomean (talk) 18:48, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Propose renaming Category:Ambassadors of New Zealand to Trinidad and Tobago to Category:High commissioners of New Zealand to Trinidad and Tobago
Nominator's rationale: Uncertain about the usefulness of this category, however there are hundreds if not thousands of similar, very small categories about non-resident diplomats. If it exists, it should be accurately named. AusLondonder (talk) 14:54, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Rename per nom. The chief of mission from one Commonwealth country to another is called a high representative. Place Clichy (talk) 19:38, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete the one article here is on a person who was a non-resident high commissioner. Being a non-resident high commissioner is not defining. He is in Category:High commissioners of New Zealand to Canada which is where he was resident and what is defining. I think that is enough. Considering that at times in the past many heads of diplomatic missions held titles other than Ambassadors, I think we would be better off just treating Ambassador as an office for heads of diplomatic missions and not sorting by exact title. However more important is to focus on defining characteristics, and that is primarily only resident ambassadirships, especially in cases where otherwise we get 1 article categories.John Pack Lambert (talk) 23:21, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
I share that sentiment but if you look at Category:Ambassadors of New Zealand there are dozens of single-member categories there alone. Same in Category:Ambassadors to Trinidad and Tobago. There must be thousands in the various category trees of Category:Ambassadors by mission country. That said, no objection to deletion here. AusLondonder (talk) 04:51, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
We should probably should merge or delete all of the 1000+ 1 member ambassador categories. However that would be a gigantic nomination, and one would probably want to review first to see if any other articles currently in Wikipedia might fit in the category before nominating it. So for now we are just tacking them as they come up.John Pack Lambert (talk) 22:10, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

Category:Burns family

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename (non-admin closure). GoldRomean (talk) 18:47, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Nominator's rationale: we do not have an article Burns family. The people in this category are all related to Robert Burns, but at least one is a cousin on his mother's side and another is Burns' wife's brother, qqso they really are all sorted as relates to him, not as part of a long standing family that he was just the most well known member of. There are other cases of people naned Burns so without an article for us to assume which Burns family is referred to will be evident to readers seems a bit much.John Pack Lambert (talk) 11:45, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Support. The category is not technically ambiguous because no other "Burns" categories currently exists, though, as you mention, there is no main Burns family article establishing what "Burns" family is being grouped here. Is it for Robert Burns? Or for Ken Burns and his ex-wife Amy Stechler, daughters Sarah Burns and Lilly Burns, and brother Ric Burns? Probably not. But in general, for a variety of reasons, I find a lot of these family categories to be problematic. Unlike, say, the Kennedy family, the association isn't usually much established or defining besides a relation to a single, most-notable person. This issue often pertains to WP:EPONYMOUS cats as well when they are essentially functioning as family categories. In the case of the Burns category, virtually all of the articles exist here for the sole reason of being related to a renowned person whose life has been the subject of extensive scholarly research. Hundreds of biographies, actually. Biographies which have elevated these relatives to significant coverage and thus worthy of a standalone article here on Wikipedia. I would regard that as distinctly different from being member of a "prominent" family, one that is recognized from its name alone. Οἶδα (talk) 23:54, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
