Nominator's rationale: delete, these were bishops of the Metropolis of Kiev, Galicia and all Rus' (1620–1686) and already categorised as such. It is unclear whether they were Cossacks. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:07, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
Marcocapelle, they were not Cossacks. Cossack Hetmanate is the name of the country in the Wikipedia. Not all citizen of the country were Cossacks. The mentioned bishops were citizens of the Cossack Hetmanate. The Metropolis of Kiev, Galicia and all Rus' is a title, not a country. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 01:43, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
As an example, we have a category like Category:Polish bishops, which includes all the bishops from Poland. Ukraine during the 17th-18th centuries was known as the Cossack Hetmanate. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 01:49, 25 January 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: merge/rename. (non-admin closure) GoldRomean (talk) 20:59, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Social history is essentially the history of society. By definition, everything that happened in a former country is history, so the distinction between the "society" and "social history" categories seems arbitrary. Mclay1 (talk) 06:22, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Support merging/renaming to "society", per nom. I am not sure if merging to "history (by topic)" is necessary, for the very same reason that everything that happened in a former country is history. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:44, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
I was planning to do something with the history categories next, but figured these should be merged there until then, rather than anticipating what the consensus might be. Mclay1 (talk) 11:23, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
    • @Mclay1: Fair enough. For your information, I have been trying to have history of former countries merged in a mass nomination some years ago, but that proposal did not lead somewhere. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:46, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

  • Propose merging Category:Mass murders inspired by ISIS to Category:Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant activities
Nominator's rationale: underpopulated category and narrow category. inspired by is not defining. The categiry creator seems to be overeager, see the newly created tree as well. Category:ISIS-related incidents by year SMasonGarrison 13:22, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
undisputed – Just delete it. I'll remove the one page in it and nominate it myself. I created it with that name then someone pointed out that the word "murder" sometimes isn't suitable if there's not a criminal conviction, so some of the pages I was planning to add were not suitable. Late Night Coffee (talk) 16:55, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
I did get a bit "overeager" a while ago. I thought I already deleted most of the unnecessary categories. If you find any others that I missed just message me on my talk page. Late Night Coffee (talk) 17:32, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
You made Category:ISIS-related incidents by year all of these within the last week. SMasonGarrison 20:43, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
It was mostly on one day. Someone pointed out a few errors I had made and told me to slow down, so I fixed the errors they pointed out and stopped being so "overeager". Late Night Coffee (talk) 05:22, 14 February 2026 (UTC)

@Smasongarrison, do you think that the same argument in Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2025 September 3#American sportspeople by country of descent would apply to these categories? --Habst (talk) 16:04, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Greyhound racing films. (non-admin closure) GothicGolem29 (Talk) 16:34, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Duplicate categories with the exception of the first category also including two TV series and one TV episode, which doesn't seem like enough to justify the creation of greyhound racing TV category. No other category combines film and TV by topic. Manually move the TV articles to appropriate categories. Mclay1 (talk) 12:59, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

Category:Jews

The result of the discussion was: no consensus. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 23:30, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: WP:COPSEP applies here, and I don't want to just leave the talk page here by moving it improperly. Arctic Circle System (talk) 08:40, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep status quo. We currently have Category:Jews and Judaism as a root topic category for the ethnoreligious group, Category:Jews and Category:People of Jewish descent for individuals, whether they identify as Jewish or only have this heritage, and Category:Judaism for religious topics. This structure is widely replicated for almost every country, provided there is actual content. WP:COPSEP is respected. If it's not broken, don't fix it. Place Clichy (talk) 08:50, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
Jews is not a demonym for a country, it is a demonym for an ethnic group and a religious group, These changes would make it consistent with other ethnic group categories, i.e. Category:Kurdish people. Arctic Circle System (talk) 17:30, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
I did call it an ethnoreligious group in my reply, which is consistent with your presentation I believe. Your proposition is well-intended, but there has been so much back-and-forth around Jewish categories that I am afraid that, in this case, this drastic change would not bring an improvement. Place Clichy (talk) 19:59, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
It would be more consistent with similar categories, at least in relation to ethnicity categories, though religion categories use the current scheme. Perhaps this should be changed, but that would be another discussion. I don't think this relates to WP:ARBPIA in any significant way, so it shouldn't be that contentious at least. Arctic Circle System (talk) 04:37, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep because this is an absolutely ridiculous nomination. If the nominator has his way then Category:Christians, Category:Muslims, Category:Hindus etc, etc, should likewise be changed to Category:Christian people, Category:Muslim people, Category:Hindu people etc, etc! The nominator is requested to withdraw his misguided nomination ASAP. Thank you, IZAK (talk) 23:52, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
And you are requested to watch your language, be civil and assume good faith, though. Place Clichy (talk) 08:11, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
My pronouns are she/her jsyk, and arguing that the status quo should be maintained for the sole reason that it's the status quo is rather misguided to say the least. Arctic Circle System (talk) 17:32, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
I should also note that Jews is not just the demonym for a religious group but an ethnic group as well. The change I have proposed would make it consistent with other ethnic group-related categories. Arctic Circle System (talk) 17:36, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, GoldRomean (talk) 12:57, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Neutral: As a convention, we name biography categories (which is what this is) "X people". Topic categories are named after the article on the group of people. Hence we have Category:Kurds and Category:Kurdish people. So the nominator's proposal is accurate, and Category:Christians, Category:Muslims, Category:Hindus, etc. could also be renamed similarly (not sure where User:IZAK finds that so ridiculous). However, there is already a status quo in Category:People by religion that isn't broken, and the current names are more natural. I don't know if the "X people" convention is the best system to begin with. Mclay1 (talk) 06:07, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
I'm not sure you can call it a convention. I seems more like a case of we've done that for a long time without an explicit reasoning behind it and with many exceptions. In other words, a habit. The only relevant explicit convention I am aware of is WP:COPSEP i.e. separating people and topic categories, without explicitly stating a rule about their naming. Here, Jews and Judaism is unequivocally the topic category, so COPSEP can't be an argument towards renaming.
This naming pattern as it is currently seen may perhaps be formalized as such: if and only if corresponding topic and biographical categories are named in a way that can be understood to refer to people, then the topic category should use the plural (e.g. Kurds) and the people category should use a <adjective> people format (e.g. Kurdish people). This excludes anything related to religion, for which the topic category would not be named ambiguously, and discourages another format sometimes seen of Fooians topics/Fooians. In general we only consider the highest level of secondary schools notable, and we have somewhat moved away from that. Anything lower than that there is a very high bar to show notability. I am not sure it is really worth sorting the few articles we have on schools in England that enroll children under about age 11 at all, we might only need 1 Category for all those schools.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:57, 15 February 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: alt rename. (non-admin closure) GoldRomean (talk) 21:10, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Propose renaming Category:Fiction about Hasidic Judaism to Category:Fiction about Orthodox and Hasidic Jews
  • Propose renaming Category:Films about Hasidic Judaism to Category:Films about Hasidic Jews
Nominator's rationale: Not about Judaism, but about Jews. To be same as Category:Films about Orthodox and Hasidic Jews --Altenmann >talk 21:21, 3 January 2026 (UTC)

  • Marcocapelle's alt rename for the first one is better than the original proposal. However, I don't really know why they need moving. Surely any work about Hasidic Jews is inherently about Hasidic Judaism? But I'm not going to read the plot summary of every movie to figure it out. Mclay1 (talk) 13:10, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Category about a defunct local government area containing only the article about the former LGA and an article about the former LGA's premises. Not useful for navigation. AusLondonder (talk) 04:39, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: delete + I've manually merged. (non-admin closure) GoldRomean (talk) 20:56, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Category containing only a single article, this is a redundant category layer. AusLondonder (talk) 04:29, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Manually merge and delete: just move the article, the subcategory does not belong there. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:54, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Manually merge just the article per Marcocapelle. Mclay1 (talk) 13:12, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: upmerge for now. underpopulated SMasonGarrison 04:14, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge per nom, this is not helpful for navigation. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:55, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge we do not need these 1 article categories.John Pack Lambert (talk) 12:52, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
