Category:Former Russian Orthodox Christians
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: alt rename. (non-admin closure) GoldRomean (talk) 22:56, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Former Russian Orthodox Christians to Category:Former members of the Russian Orthodox Church
- Propose renaming Category:Former Polish Orthodox Christians to Category:Former members of the Polish Orthodox Church
- Nominator's rationale: I think that renaming this category to Former members of FOO instead of Former Polish Foo would help a lot at distinguishing nationality from religion. If this seems like a reasonable track, I'm happy to add more nominations. SMasonGarrison 23:24, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose Polish category, the Polish Orthodox Church was established in 1924 and all articles are about people from well before 1924. It should rather become Category:Former Eastern Orthodox Christians from Poland, in line with Category:Eastern Orthodox Christians from Poland. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:51, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
- Moreover, save one article, it should become Category:Eastern Orthodox Christians from the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:01, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
- Further comment, if the Russian category is renamed as nominated I presume that subCategory:Former Old Believers needs to be purged. Not entirely sure about that though. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:07, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
- Alt rename to Category:Former Eastern Orthodox Christians from Poland, Category:Former Eastern Orthodox Christians from Russia. I believe the parent categories were at some point split between categories by nationality and by parent church. The topic here seems to be about national affiliations more than present-day organisations. Place Clichy (talk) 08:00, 18 January 2026 (UTC)

- Propose splitting Category:Mass media in Kimberley, South Africa to Category:Kimberley, South Africa and Category:Mass media in the Northern Cape
- Nominator's rationale: Dual upmerge for now. underpopulated category SMasonGarrison 23:04, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- Dual merge, this is not helpful for navigation. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:26, 22 February 2026 (UTC)

Category:Academics and writers on bullying
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Academics on bullying and purge. (non-admin closure) GoldRomean (talk) 02:25, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- Propose splitting Category:Academics and writers on bullying to Category:Academics on bullying and Category:Writers on bullying
- Nominator's rationale: The name here conflates meaningfully distinct things, which we have different categories for. This category has them go in subcategories for both which is incorrect as not everyone here is an academic. Also, splitting would properly align with Category:Writers by non-fiction subject area and Category:Scholars and academics by subject - as far as I can see this is trying to be both at once. PARAKANYAA (talk) 21:49, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose I think in this case the line between the academics and writers in too open to debate. Academics are almost all writers to some extent. The overlap is so high we should have a joint Category. Categories do not have to 100% belong to be placed as a sub-category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 22:00, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- Why would this be any different than any other category in the tree here? There's no reason to merge these two but keep the others. PARAKANYAA (talk) 23:09, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- Rename to Category:Academics on bullying and purge, there are 11 articles in the category of which 9 about academics, and the other two articles are already in Category:Anti-bullying activists. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:15, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- Fine by me. PARAKANYAA (talk) 23:09, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- Alt rename per Marcocapelle. Mclay1 (talk) 00:40, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

Mary I of England
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: no consensus. (non-admin closure) GoldRomean (talk) 22:11, 29 March 2026 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Peers created by Mary I of England to Category:Peers created by Mary I
- Propose renaming Category:People executed under Mary I of England to Category:People executed under Mary I
- Propose renaming Category:Cultural depictions of Mary I of England to Category:Cultural depictions of Mary I
- Propose renaming Category:Court of Mary I of England to Category:Court of Mary I
- Nominator's rationale: The article Mary I of England was recently moved to remove the country from the title. Векочел (talk) 18:40, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose, too ambiguous. This is a case when it is okay when the category name does have a disambiguator while the article has not. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:34, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose This is too ambiguous. We might want to rename the article. We clearly need the of England with the category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 21:47, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- Support We should defer to the titles of main articles, even in situations where I would have !voted differently in an RM. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:18, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- Since people do not need to look at categories before adding them to an article I believe there are times when it makes sense for Category names to be less ambiguous than the corresponding article name. There is never a case where the reverse is true. Category names should always be at least an unambiguous as the article name.John Pack Lambert (talk) 11:42, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- Of course the reverse is true, every time a reader ends up at the wrong article and has to spend time clicking to get to the right one. Favoring editors over readers at an encyclopedia is like a restaurant whose employees ignore the diners. Luckily both groups are well served by encouraging more participation in RM discussions, especially the English ones. - RevelationDirect (talk) 16:38, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- Support per WP:C2D. Could have been speedied. There is no ambiguity with the name. Even before the RM, Mary I pointed to the English monarch because there are no other Mary Is that could reasonably cause confusion. See Mary I (disambiguation). Any other monarchs technically known as Mary I were obscure or not commonly referred to that way, so there is no chance of a category under that name being used incorrectly. Many other monarch categories follow that logic, e.g. Category:Henry VIII and Category:Mary II. Mclay1 (talk) 00:33, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
- Rename per Mclay1. * Pppery * it has begun... 23:53, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose, too ambiguous. C2D is an indication, not a firm rule. In justified cases, it is better to deviate from it. This is such a case, because other countries than England had queens named Mary. Also, unlike for articles where a short summary, lead sentence or pop-up is nearly always readily available to explain its scope, for categories such a description is often not possible, e.g. with HotCats. This makes the need for non-ambiguous titles bigger for categories than for articles. Place Clichy (talk) 19:32, 25 March 2026 (UTC)

Tomaszów County stub templates
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: rename Template:Krosno-geo-stub as an unopposed nomination (in a vein similar to WP:SILENCE or WP:SOFTDELETE). (non-admin closure) GoldRomean (talk) 19:25, 29 March 2026 (UTC)
Propose renaming Template:TomaszówLubelski-geo-stub to Template:TomaszówLublin-geo-stubPropose renaming Template:TomaszówMazowiecki-geo-stub to Template:TomaszówŁódź-geo-stub
- Nominator's rationale: more renamed Polish counties, both to Tomaszów County, so append the voivodeship name replacing the second word of the old county names. – Fayenatic London 21:40, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- Another option would be to keep these two current names, since they follow the county seats Tomaszów Lubelski and Tomaszów Mazowiecki. But I'm still finding more like this, which don't follow the same pattern:
- Category:Krosno County, Lubusz Voivodeship, geography stubs has Template:KrosnoOdrzańskie-geo-stub after county seat Krosno Odrzańskie
- but Category:Krosno County, Podkarpackie Voivodeship, geography stubs has Template:Krosno-geo-stub named after the adjacent city of Krosno, so there's not a corresponding longer name for that one.
- So for "Krosno", I think the pattern CountyVoivodeship-geo-stub is the way to go:
Propose renaming Template:KrosnoOdrzańskie-geo-stub to Template:KrosnoLubusz-geo-stub- Propose renaming Template:Krosno-geo-stub to Template:KrosnoPodkarpackie-geo-stub
- But for Category:Środa County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, geography stubs and Category:Środa County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, geography stubs it's more concise to keep the existing names using the county seats: Template:ŚrodaŚląska-geo-stub and Template:ŚrodaWielkopolska-geo-stub.
- – Fayenatic London 23:31, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Pegship: any wisdom from experience at WP:WPSS? – Fayenatic London 09:07, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
- No wisdom here, sorry! Her Pegship (?) 18:48, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Grutness: would you care to opine, as another experienced stub maintainer? – Fayenatic London 23:20, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- Don't know much about the geography of the area, but I'd think that renaming and keeping the old names as redirects would make some sense. No opinion on the categories. Maybe ask for some input from any Polish WikiProject that might be relevant - is there a Polish geogtraphy project? Grutness...wha? 03:30, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
- On reflection I think it's best to keep existing names that follow the county seat where this avoids ambiguity. I therefore withdraw three nominations, but still propose renaming Template:Krosno-geo-stub to Template:KrosnoPodkarpackie-geo-stub. – Fayenatic London 11:08, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Fayenatic london: this has become messy. I could relist the whole discussion, but it is probably better to follow by other people when you withdraw here and start a fresh discussion just for that one category. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:09, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
- It is not about categories, but only renaming stub templates. This is evidently of very little interest to anyone, and we have not dug up any precedents or principles that would help. If someone closes it as no consensus, I will go ahead and do what I think is best for disambiguation in each case. Disclosure: I have already renamed some more obvious cases myself under WP:IAR. – Fayenatic London 10:15, 20 March 2026 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Template:OpoleCounty-geo-stub to Template:OpoleCountyOpoleVoivodeship-geo-stub or Template:OpoleCountyOpole-geo-stub
Propose renaming Template:OpoleLubelskie-geo-stub to Template:OpoleCountyLublinVoivodeship-geo-stub or Template:OpoleCountyLublin-geo-stub
- Nominator's rationale: Opole County is now ambiguous after renaming of Opole Lubelskie County. – Fayenatic London 16:16, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- Shorter alternatives which would be consistent with other nominations above are Template:OpoleOpole-geo-stub and Template:OpoleLublin-geo-stub (using the "CountyVoivodeship" format), or keeping the old name in the case of OpoleLubelskie. – Fayenatic London 12:03, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
- As in the discussion above, I withdraw one that already avoids ambiguity by following the county seat, and just propose renaming Template:OpoleCounty-geo-stub to Template:OpoleOpole-geo-stub. – Fayenatic London 11:11, 13 March 2026 (UTC)

- Propose Deleting Category:Three-room schoolhouses
- Nominator's rationale: WP:ARBITRARYCAT and WP:NONDEFINING
- One-room school houses are definitely defining both architecturally and as part of rural culture. I'm not so sure about the Two-room school category but at least there's a main article. But, as we continue to count up, this one seems arbitrary and nondefining. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:33, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- Merge to Category:Schoolhouses. I am not sure exactly how we draw the line between a "schoolhouse" and a "school building". In some cases like "couthouse", "jailhouse" and a few others I am not sure there is a difference at all between "jail" and "jailhouse". Some people like to tack "house" on all sorts of buildings, others do not. However for now we can merge these articles to schoolhouses.John Pack Lambert (talk) 21:57, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- I'm not quite sure where the line is either, but no objection to a merge. RevelationDirect (talk) 16:41, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- Just delete per nom. The articles are already in Category:Schoolhouses in the United States so no merge is needed. Mclay1 (talk) 01:02, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
