- Nominator's rationale: delete, redundant category layer with only one subcategory. The subcategory is already in a History by city category. Marcocapelle (talk) 23:26, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- Support: District was formed to prioritize and saggregate programs related to Bengaluru city and neighbouring areas. Makes sense to delete this category. -Vijethnbharadwaj (talk) 10:56, 28 February 2026 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Merge to Category:Coorg State. Category:History of Kodagu district wasn't properly tagged and listed so will end up being deleted as empty. * Pppery * it has begun... 19:37, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Coorg to Category:Kodagu district and Category:History of Karnataka
- Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layer with only one subcategory. With this merge the intermediate Category:History of Kodagu district is skipped and will become empty. Marcocapelle (talk) 23:10, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose: Kodagu was an independent state from 1950 to 1956 and General elections were held in 1951-52. Later it was merged with Mysore state which is now called Karnataka. Coorg state later became Kodagu district. Legacy of Coorg state should not be erased and we can have all the pages related to erstwhile Coorg state under one umbrella. Instead of merging this with Category:Kodagu district, we can move this to new name Category:Coorg state. -Vijethnbharadwaj (talk) 11:11, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Vijethnbharadwaj: Category:Coorg State already exists, can you clarity what you meant? Marcocapelle (talk) 07:11, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

- Kingdom of Coorg was deposed in 1834. Since Coorg was a separate state from 1947 to 1956, it's better to merge Category:Coorg to Category:Coorg State than present day Category:Kodagu district. Also Category:History of Coorg should be a sub category of Category:Coorg State. Now it's other way round. -Vijethnbharadwaj (talk) 12:36, 7 March 2026 (UTC)

- Merge per nom and delete Category:History of Kodagu district. The above opposition and alternative proposals don't make sense. Category:Coorg State is a subcategory of Category:History of Coorg. User:Vijethnbharadwaj doesn't seem to understand the proposal. No one is erasing anything; this is just eliminating some layers – the contents of the categories will remain the same. - The category should be for the history of the modern place rather than the historical place. It redundant to have a category about the history of a historical place, because everything related to the historical place is part of history. The historical place is part of the history of the modern place. Mclay1 (talk) 00:21, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:1951 establishments in Coorg State and delete Category:Establishments in Coorg by year. (non-admin closure) GoldRomean (talk) 01:08, 27 March 2026 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: delete, isolated year category for a short-living state, and the category happens to be a duplicate of Category:Assembly constituencies of Coorg. Marcocapelle (talk) 23:08, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose: Category:1951 establishments in Coorg lists Assembly constituencies, Thakkadi Party and one more page Coorg Legislative Assembly added which is established as a 24-member body following the enactment of the Government of Part C States Act, 1951. Since we don't have any other articles related to institutions or Infrastructure built in 1951 in erstwhile Coorg state, we have less number of articles. We can expand and add more articles in future and Wikipedia, as an Encyclopedia should have room for such saggregation post expansion. Since it was a different state in 1951, I feel this should be retained. Instead of deleting this , we can move this to new name Category:1951 establishments in Coorg state -Vijethnbharadwaj (talk) 11:18, 28 February 2026 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Sufism in Syria. I have dropped the category from Damascus as proposed. -- Beland (talk) 01:52, 29 March 2026 (UTC)

- Manually Merge/Delete Al-Salihiyah, Damascus was added after nomination and should be merged to Category:Sufism in Syria, then delete per nom. - RevelationDirect (talk) 02:35, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
- Keep/oppose: While it may not be defining for Damascus as a whole, Al-Salihiyah, Damascus seems to be the specific neighborhood with the Sufi community, and I suspect that this category would be defining for a particular neighborhood. I also found some other pages that fit, so underpopulation shouldn't be an issue even if Damascus were removed. However, I think that we should consider renaming the category to Category:Sufi communities in Syria. Care to differ or discuss with me? The Nth User 05:37, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
- RevelationDirect 's solution seems to be the most appropriate, namely moving the articles excluding Damascus to Category:Sufism in Syria and delete the category. After all the articles seem to discuss former Sufi communities. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:17, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
- Wouldn't the appropriate thing to do in that case be to rename the category? Care to differ or discuss with me? The Nth User 22:10, 31 December 2025 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Split * Pppery * it has begun... 19:38, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
- Propose splitting Category:Academics and writers on far-right politics to Category:Writers on far-right politics and Category:Academics on far-right politics
- Nominator's rationale: I'm not too inclined to die on this hill, so if I see a strong objection I am open to reconsidering, but the name here strikes me as conflating two meaningfully distinct things. Also, splitting would properly align with Category:Writers by non-fiction subject area and Category:Scholars and academics by subject - as far as I can see this is trying to be both at once, which is weird, and unlike any of the other categories there, except for a single one, which has a similar issue. PARAKANYAA (talk) 23:39, 19 February 2026 (UTC)
- Split, fits better with the parent categories by occupation. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:12, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose There is a very high overlap of the two categories. If we split them a large number of articles will be in both. I think it makes more sense to leave this as a unified category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 11:37, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, GoldRomean (talk) 23:04, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- They should not be in both. Academics will go in one category, non-academics in the other. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:49, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
- Spilt per nom. They can be nested, but fusing these two categories is just unhelpful. SMasonGarrison 19:12, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
- Split, but remove far-right from the target names per Far-right politics. There are, I think, lots of blp-related reasons to not categorise people this way. We're barely skirting WP:OCOPINION. And in reading the article, the term is far too broad. And application seems WP:OCSUBJECTIVE, and placing people in the cats would likely be (well-meant) WP:OR. Listify if wanted, to provide better clarity, specificity, and context. - jc37 20:24, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
- The category is for people who study or write about far-right politics not necessarily people who adhere to that ideology, so there's no BLP issues. It's a real, common and well researched concept, especially in the areas of study and writing. Mclay1 (talk) 00:27, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
- That argument could, maybe, apply to some academics (but not so much for writers), but we'd need a re-name for better clarity, but in reality, when looking at the entries, this seems like we're in BLP territory. And besides, if they don't qualify as being academics with a discipline in politics, then they definitely can't be said to be of some sub-group of that, like "far-right". And as I look at other cats at Category:Scholars and academics by subject, I'm not seeing a cat for politics, or even political science. Which makes me wonder if this cat exists for pop culture reasons, instead of academic ones, and if so, then it's miscategorised, at the very least. - jc37 19:19, 22 March 2026 (UTC)
- How are we in BLP territory? It's the exact same as the Historians of fascism category. Writing about something does not mean you yourself hold those views. Is "criminologists" problematic by your same logic (writing about problematic topic in scholarly way = blpvio?)
- And we do have categories for political scientists in the subcat of the category you linked - Category:Political scientists, and political writers. What? PARAKANYAA (talk) 04:32, 24 March 2026 (UTC)

- We already have writers and academics on politics categories, so no, that is not what this is. Far-right studies is an actual thing, and for a lot of these people they are most notable for that. PARAKANYAA (talk) 04:29, 24 March 2026 (UTC)

- Comment I think the meaning would be more clear if we used the word "about" instead of on. On sometimes is used to describe the person's politics. Here we only care what they study about.John Pack Lambert (talk) 23:10, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

- Propose manually merging Category:Medieval Athos to Category:Mount Athos
- Propose manually merging Category:Monks on medieval Mount Athos to Category:Monks on Mount Athos
- Nominator's rationale: manually merge, hardly any reason to keep medieval articles apart here, and there is a large overlap with other parts of the tree. That is also why manual merging is needed. Manually merge Category:Medieval Athos because most articles are already in the tree of Category:Monasteries on Mount Athos, and manually merge Category:Monks on medieval Mount Athos because nearly all articles of Category:Monks on medieval Mount Athos are already in a monks category by monastery. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:29, 27 February 2026 (UTC)

- @StarTrekker: @The Nth User: Two of those articles are already present in subcategories. The third could easily be merged into Category:Ben 10. (Oinkers42) (talk) 16:36, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
- And I disagree that that should be done. Instead the parent category should be removed from the article.★Trekker (talk) 17:23, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
- List of Ben 10 films and List of Ben 10 television series can stay due to being the main articles of child categories by WP:OCEPON, and merging Ben 10/Generator Rex: Heroes United into the parent category when we already have a perfectly good child category would contradict WP:DIFFUSE. However, even if we removed all three of those pages from Category:Ben 10 mass media, that category still would not be redundant because it would have multiple child categories, so it would be a branch point.
- If your point is that the parent category Category:Ben 10 is not very large, that alone does not mean that we should not create subcategories for it. For example, categories are also intended to help readers navigate to similar pages, and because Category:Ben 10 mass media is a child category of Category:Mass media by franchise (which, by the way, also has several other child categories of similar size to Category:Ben 10 mass media), people who are on other pages about mass media for a larger franchise then click on a category link for either Category:Mass media by franchise or a subcategory at the bottom of the page could navigate to (Category:Ben 10 mass media and then) its pages and subcategories more easily than if Category:Ben 10 mass media did not exist. This kind of thing is one of the reasons why we have accepted categorization schemes in Wikipedia, and Category:Ben 10 mass media falls into one, so it should not be upmerged just because Category:Ben 10 is not overfull. - @StarTrekker: @The Nth User: Two of those articles are already present in subcategories. The third could easily be merged into Category:Ben 10. (Oinkers42) (talk) 16:36, 9 January 2026 (UTC)

- Merge. IMHO only the top-sorted categories in Category:Mass media by franchise are definitely worth keeping. A few of the most heavily populated franchise-specific subcats might be helpful, e.g. Category:Alien (franchise) mass media may be worth separating from Category:Alien (franchise), but it would probably be cleaner to upmerge it and all 34 that are based on a specific character or story. Lego mass media may be a special case that should stay. – Fayenatic London 23:45, 1 February 2026 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Category:Frontier officers of Mizoram to Category:British Indian Army officers of punitive expeditions in the Lushai Hills
- Propose renaming Category:Superintendents of Mizoram to Category:Superintendents of Lushai Hills district
- Nominator's rationale: rename to the name that was used at the time. Only in 1898 the Lushai Hills district emerged, after the punitive expeditions. Only in 1954 the Lushai Hills district became Mizo District. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:18, 27 February 2026 (UTC)

The categories do not have to be merged, since most articles are already in Category:Punitive expeditions in Mizoram (see above, nominated for renaming), but one remaining article should be moved manually. Propose renaming Category:ISIL terrorist incidents by year to Category:ISIL-related events by year
- Nominator's rationale: We already have "ISIL terrorist incidents" by country, continent, and decade. For individual years we should expand the scope to include every page and category in the Category:ISIL that can be sorted by year. Late Night Coffee (talk) 06:55, 27 February 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose the usage of "-related" and purge all incidents by people who merely sympathize with ISIL. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:05, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- I partly agree, I found Category:Terrorist incidents by perpetrator, but also I had a better idea. Late Night Coffee (talk) 07:43, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Marcocapelle, Attacks done in ISIL's name fit well enough in "ISIL terrorist incidents" unless there is a more credible link to another ideology or group. Late Night Coffee (talk) 08:11, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- The reason to add "-related" is to include pages such as 2025 United States strikes in Nigeria, a state actor attack on alleged ISIL targets. This is related to ISIL, can be sorted by year, and is not something most sources would call a "terrorist attack". I'm not sure if there are enough of these in every year, and they don't connect well to other categories, so I think ISIL-related events by decade as a category around the years works better. That fits in terrorism by decade discussed below. Late Night Coffee (talk) 08:11, 27 February 2026 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Category:Terrorism by year to Category:Terrorism by decade
- Nominator's rationale: Most of the years are missing or contain only "terrorist incidents in (year)", but a few also include other things that could be useful to group in broader windows of time. Late Night Coffee (talk) 04:52, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- Rename, but if and only if the nomination below is expanded and gets support. Generally conversion to decades makes sense. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:56, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
Category:Terrorism in 2026
- Propose renaming

- Category:Terrorism in 2025 to Category:Terrorism in the 2020s
- Category:Terrorism in 2024 to Category:Terrorism in the 2020s
- Category:Terrorism in 2022 to Category:Terrorism in the 2020s
- Category:Terrorism in 2020 to Category:Terrorism in the 2020s
- Nominator's rationale: 2021 and 2023 are missing. None from the 2020s contain anything other than the corresponding "Category:Terrorist incidents by year", but there are probably a few pages that could usefully by included in "Category:Terrorism in the 2020s" e.g. Category:Terrorist incidents in Australia in the 2020s, and terrorist groups active in the 2020s, etc. Late Night Coffee (talk) 06:22, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- Procedural Oppose. I don't see the benefit to renaming. I could see the argument that these are redundant with Terrorist incidents in 2026 But that is hard to tell because the nomintor removed some of the contents. SMasonGarrison 23:39, 27 February 2026 (UTC)

- Category:Terrorism in 2015 to Category:Terrorism in the 2010s
- Category:Terrorism in 2014 to Category:Terrorism in the 2010s
- Category:Terrorism in 2012 to Category:Terrorism in the 2010s
- Category:Terrorism in 2010 to Category:Terrorism in the 2010s
- Nominator's rationale: Only two years are missing (Category:Terrorism in 2013 and Category:Terrorism in 2011), but the decade contains only 3 pages that are not contained on the corresponding "Terrorist incidents in (year)" subcategory.
- Category:Terrorism in 2019
- Category:Terrorism in 2016 and Category:Terrorism in 2015
- Late Night Coffee (talk) 06:11, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- Procedurally oppose. These aren't renames, these are merges. A merge doesn't really make sense given the existing tree. But that is hard to tell because the nomintor removed some of the contents. SMasonGarrison 23:40, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
Category:Terrorism in 2007
- Propose renaming Category:Terrorism in 2003 to Category:Terrorism in the 2000s
- Nominator's rationale: contains only Category:Terrorist incidents in 2003 and Murder of Stephen Oake, and the decade includes only 4 years. Late Night Coffee (talk) 05:31, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Terrorism in 2004 to Category:Terrorism in the 2000s
- Nominator's rationale: Contains only Category:Terrorist incidents in 2004, and the decade contains only 4 years. Late Night Coffee (talk) 05:37, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Terrorism in 2006 to Category:Terrorism in the 2000s
- Nominator's rationale: Contains only Category:Terrorist incidents in 2006 and 19 January 2006 Osama bin Laden tape, and the decade contains only 4 years. Late Night Coffee (talk) 05:37, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Terrorism in 2007 to Category:Terrorism in the 2000s
- Nominator's rationale: See also above.
- The 3 other pages in 2007 are almost enough for a category But the missing years make the set difficult to navigate, and they make more sense in the same set as 19 January 2006 Osama bin Laden tape.
- Late Night Coffee (talk) 05:17, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- Merge all to decades, overall there is not enough content to justify an intermediate category layer. The years 2010 and further should be added to the nomination. Also make sure the articles stay in a year category (that is manual work afterwards). Marcocapelle (talk) 06:03, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- I added all 3 decades that have years. It could go back a lot further as decade containers for the sets of Category:Terrorist incidents by year. Several countries also have matching decades, e.g. Category: Terrorist incidents in Australia by decade, and others. Late Night Coffee (talk) 06:26, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- The groups active in each decade could also be usefully sorted by decade, whereas adding them to every year they are active would be a mess. Late Night Coffee (talk) 06:29, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
