  • Nominator's rationale I am very hesitant to write the category name here. I know lots of African-American people who find any use of that term to be objectionable. We generally do not insist on using outdated no longer current terms for groups, we follow current practice in how to refer to groups, even when referring to them historically. I have to admit I am not 100% sure we actually need to categorize all African-Americans by status of being slave or free, even those living pre-1865, but if we are doing so we should not use an outdated term that many find highly objectionable.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:08, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
  • Rename for to be WP:PRECISE, and MOS:BLACK clearly states, "The old epithets Red and Yellow, plus Colored (in the American sense) and Negro, are generally taken to be offensive, and should only be used in quotations", so the current category should be deleted or renamed as soon as possible.   • Rename We have a parent which is named "health care professionals" so anyone who is not a physician can be placed there. I do have to wonder how this would work with the use of physician in some places. In Britain a physician is a specific specialty under the broader term "medical doctor". I still think that in American English "medical doctor" is essentially a synonym of "physician" and so I think we should just rename the whole tree "medical doctor" (or even maybe Category:Doctors (medical)) but think that should probably not be carried out by nominating one small low level article.John Pack Lambert (talk) 18:53, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Categories based on a misunderstanding. For much of the existence of Yugoslavia, Armenia was part of the Soviet Union. The only content here is Arman Kirakossian, Armenia's ambassador to Greece in 1994-99, who was also accredited to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which at the time consisted of only Serbia and Montenegro. Non-resident ambassadors do not usually justify a category, especially to the wrong country. Place Clichy (talk) 15:21, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: The current protest cycle started late December 2025, is continuing as of 5 January 2026, shows no sign of stopping, and the title of the main article 2025–2026 Iranian protests is uncontroversial (there was one extremely brief suggestion/discussion for a rename). The alternative to renaming to Category:2025–2026 Iranian protests would be to create Category:2026 Iranian protests, in which case most of the articles in Template:2025–2026 Iranian protests would have to be double-categorised to the 2025 and 2026 categories.   • Nominatoor's rationale This is different from Category:Arab people in Iran since the later is a category for biographies. This is a topic category. Its current direct content is all articles on ethnic groups/peoples who live in Iran who are ethnic Arabs. However we have several other similar cases where we have a topic category named ethnic group+s in Boo and a biographical category named ethnic group people in Boo. I believe the suggested target is the form that will match the most other categories. I don't see the issue with a "double demonym"; they're very common, e.g. Japanese Americans, British Indians, etc. I don't think we should double-guess the article name in this forum for reasons that aren't related to categorisation or consistency. The nominator seems to dislike "double demonyms" in the form of Fooian Barian people, and I largely share this feeling because they are often ambiguous. Nominator's rationale: This category has just two entries. Categories are meant to be a navigational tool and just two entries not meets that threshold. Besides, both the alumni have been listed under the alumni section of Allan Wilson High School. Maintaining a category with such small number of entries creates unwanted category clutter.     Even with 3 entries, it remains a case of WP:OVERCAT and provides little navigational utility per WP:CAT. For a school founded in 1940, having just three alumni in 85 years is indicative that the list won't suddenly grow into a robust size. These entries can be more efficiently handled under the Notable Alumni section of the main article.     Sicily is an island and was the name of the island. No idea why you are so focused on the Emirate/county/province/colony/ whatever status it had across history, when it was Sicily all along. "Poets from the county of Sicily" would still be a subcat of "poets of Sicily" anyway, so it's not as if your proposal would remove it from the Sicily tree anyway. All four are Arabic-language poets from Sicily, the category is perfectly describing what they were and were notable for. Having additional cats for "Poets from the county of Sicily" (independent from the language) is of course not a problem, but not a reasonn to delete the current category. There is even a name for these, "Siculo-Arabic poets", with plenty of scholarly research into them. See e.g. this or this. The combination of Arabic and Sicily is exactly what they are known for.       • We categorize in rare cases people by the intersection of country, language used and occupation. We do not categorize people by the intersection of geographic feature and language used.         "We" do and don't do all kinds of things all the time, depending on many circumstances (from the whims of whoever is involved in creation or discussion, to the actual use in sources). In this case, the sources treat this intersection of language, occupation, and geographical location as an important one. "Arabic-laguage poets from Sicily" is a notable topic of study and a notable characteristic of these people, hence it is a good category fit. That doesn't mean that we should create "spanish-spealing soccer players of the Rocky Mountains", as that one is not a notable intersection. But that notable intersections of language, occupation and geographic feature are perhaps rare doesn't mean that it shouldn't exist in the few case where it is notable. The fact that most x-language writers are really just "x-language writers in countries where x-language is not dominant" makes this sorting a bit odd even.   • Keep Yes it's needed because otherwise several adult deaths almost certainly will end up categorized under "child murder". It's just easier to split the two and keep the child murder parent category on Category:Child filicides. There are so many enough cases of each that both categories have more than enough articles. A merge would only cause issues and solve nothing.★Trekker (talk) 08:42, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
