  • Nominator's rationale these categories have at most 2 biographical articles. They are too narrow to aid navigation. Personally I think we should just merge to ambassador categories, we should sort people by position not shared name, but some think this needs a larger discussion, so I will go for this as an improvement from our current mess.John Pack Lambert (talk) 14:51, 13 July 2026 (UTC)

  • Rename Category:Slaves by nationality to Category:Slaves by country
  • Nominator's rationale of the 43 by location sub-cats of this category, 46 use the Slaves in foo form, and an additional 4 are currently nominated for renaming. The general consensus is that we want to sort slaves by the location they were slaves, while at the same time using demonyms to connect slaves to the location where they were slaves in problematic in at least some cases. This is a case where we are sorting people by country and not by nationality, and so we might as well acknowledge it in the naming of the container category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 12:12, 13 July 2026 (UTC)

  • Nominator's rationale This was proposed for renaming before but got bogged down in debates over what the target name should be. This is one of only 5 sub-cats of Category:Slaves by nationality that uses Fooian slaves form. All the other 4 are proposed for renaming. This one would best be renamed as well.   • Nominator's rationale Every other sub-cat of slaves by nationality is either proposed for rename or uses the form "slaves in x". We sort people by where they were when held as slaves, not by where they were originally from. Nominator's rationale: Eponymous category with no content in it besides the eponym itself -- there was one other page in it when I first found it, but it was a draft, which can't be in categories per WP:DRAFTNOCAT and had to be removed. (And even if it were to be speedily moved to mainspace, there would still have to be more than just one other thing in the category before it was justifiable anyway.)
Under normal circumstances I'd just speedy delete this C2F and be done with it, but this isn't a new creation -- the category has existed since 2011, so it wouldn't still be around at all if it hadn't had other stuff in it previously, and there's a strong possibility that it very recently got emptied out by page deletions or out of process removals.
So I'm willing to withdraw this if somebody with more knowledge of the subject than I have can repopulate it, but the topic needs more than just its own head article about itself to warrant an eponymous category. Bearcat (talk) 11:56, 13 July 2026 (UTC)
