Nominator's rationale: We don't categorize artists by music managers because it's rarely a defining characteristic. I am also nominating the subcategory Category:Velvet Hammer Music & Management Group Artists for the same reason. Pichpich (talk) 20:15, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Categorizing people born by a former third-level administrative subdivisions that are not mentioned anywhere in the article of the subject, or even in the article of the town/village they were born in (quite clearly non-defining). This also presents issues with verifiability as town's former subdivision cannot be easily checked. Propose up-merging to the second-level admin division. Renata•3 21:58, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: This is not a properly defined subject and, as such, there ought not to be a category. jps (talk) 18:13, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete. This is not an actual category anyone uses. It a bunch of otherwise unrelated technologies glued together even though they are not considered to be "field propulsion" by anyone in the field.
In particular, I see one technology that I am personally familiar with as an electronics and hydraulics engineer: The drive system of the ship Yamato-1. I have personally seen the Yamato-1 thrusters at the Ship Science Museum in Tokyo and have read several papers on them. Fascinating stuff, but so far not practical.
The basic idea behind most ships and boats (sailboat and sailing ships being a notable exception) is "apply force to water. Water goes this way. Ship goes that way". Same with most aircraft (sailplanes and gliders being a notable exception) except with air.
Propellers, ducted fans, jet engines, Jet Ski motors, and even rowing with oars all use the same basic principle. The nature of the air pump or water pump varies, but not the basic drive principle.
The Yamato-1 was basically a giant Jet Ski. It pumped water out of a tube. See [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aV-VAjrh1dI ]. The difference was the nature of the pump. Instead of an impeller it used a Magnetohydrodynamic drive.
I can find zero sources -- reliable or not -- calling the drive system of the Yamato-1 "field propulsion".
Another dubious inclusion is the mention of maglev trains. That's just a standard Linear motor. All electric motors propel something with a (magnetic) field, but nobody calls them "field propulsion".
There are many, many fringe/unreliable sources online that talk about "field propulsion". This is largely driven by Bob Lazar describing the "field propulsion" system he says UFOs use in the 2019 Netflix documentary Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers. If someone runs into the phrase "field propulsion" somewhere on the Internet and comes to Wikipedia to read about it, the odds are very high that they ran across it on a site talking about UFOs and not one talking about anything in this category. Alas, we can't create an article on the UFO engine because no reliable source cares about the technical details of the engines used by flying saucers. Not just very few. None. --Guy Macon (talk) 19:26, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

I disagree. The setting of a work, time and location, are pretty defining for most as it gives a context to the story. Gonnym (talk) 11:30, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
And we already had no consensus about that recently: Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2026_March_22#Category:Films_set_in_2001. I won't repost my entire rationale because you can read it there, but I'll say this again: the period of time in which a work of fiction is set is unquestionably defining. Οἶδα (talk) 21:39, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge or reverse merge in cases when Works already exists, as largely overlapping. I am neutral about the renaming from Fiction to Works in cases when Works does not exist yet. Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:OCYEAR, isolated one- or two-articles categories, this is not helpful for navigation. A merge is not needed, the articles are already in a year in Russia category and in a month by continent category. If not merged, then at least rename and change "Soviet Union" to "Russia" because the Soviet Union was established 30 December 1922. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:49, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: The trains here do not meet the criteria for a Diesel multiple unit, i.e. A DMU requires no separate locomotive, as the engines are incorporated into one or more of the carriages. I therefore propose simplifying the category name to match this - not least as no one outside WP regards these trains as DMUs... Cheerio, Mattdaviesfsic. Talk to me. 08:24, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

  • Nominator's rationale There are 3 articles here. 1 was established in the Duchy of Mantua by the ruler of that duchy who was also the Archduchess of Austria, Queen of Hungary and eventually Holy Roman Empress. Another was established in the Kingdom of Naples. The third was established in the Kingdom of Sicily. If we had more articles I would argue for establishment categories for each of those because those were clear and specific states. However there is not enough content to justify this. There was no clear state of "Italy" in the 1760s. There is as a result no way to clearly identify what is and is not Italy. In that year the Kingdom of Sardinia, which is the force that eventually unifies Italy, included significant areas now in France. Is something established in Savoy in 1768 established in Italy? Is something establishied in Nice in 1768 established in Italy? I do not think there is any coherent way to argue yes or no here. What about in Avignon, since it was part of the Papal States? What about in the area along the eastern coast of the South Adriatic sea in Venice? I do not think we should be creating categories that call on us to ignore contemporary bounders and ask us to treat as if they control for all time the borders imposed by treaty at an end of war. Also, is something established in southern Tyrol established in Italy in 1768? I think we are best off just not having the category at all.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:20, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge per nom, the articles are all referring to different states. After the merge, the articles are still together in the continent category. This presumably is a trial nomination. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:42, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep, these are commonly referred to as "in Italy", both then and now. Italy (like Germany) is not some novel concept that only started existing when the country was finally unified, but has been a common indicator for much longer. It's also very, very strange to nominate one, seemingly random year from this continuous series (the 18th c. is nearly complete, Category:18th-century establishments in Italy). Fram (talk) 07:55, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
Which reader is helped by putting these in "Europe" instead of in "Italy" actually? To use a commonly misused claim around here, this nom makes navigation worse, not better. Fram (talk) 07:57, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge While there was already a concept of being Italian, the exact borders of a proto-Italy would be too subjective. Would favor a follow up nom so this isn't a one off for a single year. - RevelationDirect (talk) 10:55, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
That's why we use the current borders of Italy. As do most reliable sources talking about pre-1860 Italy. 18th century Italy is a standard thing in reliable sources, so why do people here reject it based on, well, not a lot really ("oh, what about Avignon" is not really a convincing argument, no one places 18th c. Avignon in Italy).
The scientific world nor common speech has any issue with discussing Italy in the 18th century or the 1760s or whatever, all 3 entries in this cat are very clearly in Italy, but our readers will have to look for it in a "Europe" category because that will educate them better, make navigation easier, or some other imaginary benefit.
Which reader is actually helped by this proposal? Fram (talk) 11:17, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
I see categorizing by Italy unhelpful because it's not accurate, being either subjective (if we try to figure out what the concept meant then) or anachronistic (if we go by the present-day boundaries of Italy). You see having them these in a more specific category below Europe as being important and not unique to Wikipedia. (Correct me if I incorrectly summarized your views.) I find your perspective to be perfectly reasonable and don't doubt your goal is to support reader navigation. RevelationDirect (talk) 12:06, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
"europe" is a geographic, not a policital grouping. What did the concept "Europa" mean in 1768? So there is no rule, no reason, that we only group by exact political entities. Italy before 1860 was a geographical and cultural entity, but not a political one. While this may cause some grey area issues (though not in this specific year, and not for most years), the vast majority of entries are perfectly clear. Fram (talk) 12:35, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep at the very least there's no reason to randomly pick out one year from the middle of the tree. * Pppery * in solidarity 22:53, 20 July 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: Merge to mammals. * Pppery * in solidarity 22:52, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:OVERLAPCAT. A classification of this specificity is not necessary for fictional characters. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 06:50, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
Merge to Category:Fictional mammals, etc. It is not helpful to group all felids under cats. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 09:47, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge "cats" is the common name, and especially in the case of fiction we should go with common name.John Pack Lambert (talk) 12:57, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
We can't do that in this case, since cat commonly refers to a single species of feline. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 20:29, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
That is not true, "cat" can refer to any species of feline in common parlance. See also the term "big cats" to describe non housecats. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 22:44, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
I have no objection to merging to Category:Fictional mammals instead of people think this is not the case, still relatively unnecessary. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 22:45, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
  • If merged then to mammals instead of cats. E.g. tigers aren't cats in common language. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:47, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
  • I agree in principle with removing feline and felid in these culture categories, but the bigger issue is the conflation between domestic cats and big cats, as well as those in-between such as the ocelot and lynx. We could go ahead with this, but then there would need to be significant clean up distinguishing these and since most of the current cat categories are domestic I think that might make things worse. The result of the discussion was: merge. (non-admin closure) GoldRomean (talk) 19:13, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: The names are exactly synonymous, but it is unclear which target should be used. The main article is titled Durand Line, but "Afghanistan–Pakistan border" is a systematic name. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 05:57, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge per nom but by all means keep a redirect. If Category:Durand Line would be kept I would expect it only to contain articles about the establishment of the border in its current form. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:24, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge there is too much overlap. Do all the articles here really belong?John Pack Lambert (talk) 12:58, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Given Mexico below, this one will need to be closed the same way (and Category:Founders of populated places in New Spain from June 1 will require another CfD if the consensus favors the use of present-day national boundaries).

The result of the discussion was: no consensus. Editors are welcome to create new categories such as Category:Devotional films without affirmative consensus in favor, and this CFD neither endorses nor prohibits such a creation. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 15:52, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Common and precise name per multiple sources including , , and so on. Kailash29792 (talk) 04:39, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep and create parent Category:Devotional films if needed. Going off what is written here and here, "devotional film" is the correct term. As stated at the former, devotional films "[explore] a faith’s founding principles and fundamental values, either through a tale about of a god, goddess, saint or god-man (Jai Santoshi Maa, Shirdi Ke Sai Baba) or a tribute to a religious site (Jai Baba Amarnath, Khawja Garib Nawaz)." By that definition, that is not limited to Hinduism. And going off the fact that logically any film should be able to called a "devotional", as is the case with devotional songs, why rename this specific cat? The current name matches the category's contents, does it not? You're essentially proposing to upmerge all of these 150+ Hindu-specific films to a general religion category. Or, if the term is in fact specific to India as suggested at the article, a general Indian religion category. Why? Οἶδα (talk) 21:24, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Yes, that was my doubt earlier on as well. I meant to say: "It is probably common in India to limit devotional films to Hindu devotional films, but not in the United Kingdom or the United States as far as I know. Marcocapelle (talk) 11:28, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
Nothing in the target of Devotional film implies that the term is specific to Hindu mythology. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 21:26, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
Yes. And a film like Singh of Festival claims to be a Sikh devotional film. That could go in a Devotional films category provided there are enough non-Hindu film articles to group with. Otherwise, all 150+ of the films here are indeed limited to Hindu devotional films. That is a meaningful grouping. Οἶδα (talk) 22:00, 2 July 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: rename. A fresh discussion can be started to split, if desired. (non-admin closure) GoldRomean (talk) 19:11, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: It should use "or" because "and" has a specific use in meta category: instead of using two criteria to sort the way a category like Category:People by occupation and nationality does, it's just the combination of content that would otherwise be in "Literary awards by genre" and "Literary awards by form". Circéus (talk) 22:59, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
On second thought, it should be "by genre or category", to match the scheme already used for Category:Mass media awards by category. Circéus (talk) 15:52, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Diffusion by year is probably not necessary at this time. Other decades have diffused in this manner but not needed for one album for one year for this decade. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 23:45, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge the 2020s cat only has 11 total articles. With 7 potential sub-cats right now. We should not disperse until the parent is at 28, and only if we hit that this year. Dispersing cats where the sub-cats will average under 4 is unwise.John Pack Lambert (talk) 01:38, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:23, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep, now 6 entries. Fram (talk) 12:27, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

There are enough articlrs for the other 2920s years as well which are not yet even in the parent, doesn´t make much sense to merge them instead of populating them. Fram (talk) 16:22, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

  • Propose Deleting Category:Tetuán Walk of Fame
Nominator's rationale: WP:OCAWARD and WP:V
We don't have a main article on the Tetuán Walk of Fame and none of the biography articles in this category so much as mention this award. Doesn't get any clearer than that. If anyone thinks they can establish enough notability for an article, I copied the current category contents right here so no work is lost. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:07, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
