Equivalent article for an opposing viewpoint
- What is the Wikipedia policy around having to make an equivalent article for an opposing viewpoint to another article?
Someone said in the Mar-a-lago face talk section something about how they should make an article about “libtards” if they made an article about “mar-a-lago face” and I don’t remember which Wikipolicy is the one that refutes that. You can delete my question once you look at the thing they said and decide whether to respond. The article is in the Did You Know area. I am not trying to give you extra work; if I remembered which policy then I would have responded. Talk:Mar-a-Lago face I am a user, but this is a different device because I was looking at Wikipedia and ran across the thing. 129.64.0.33 (talk) 03:22, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Also, please try to be nice to them. I think they are upset rather than intentionally something. I don’t know and I am not trying to be rude to them. I made a lot of the same mistakes in my first time on Wikipedia. 129.64.0.33 (talk) 03:27, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Or, if I am at fault, please understand that I am not being malicious, but rather that I am just trying do the right thing. I may be wrong and I accept that I am not certain in this case. 129.64.0.33 (talk) 03:30, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry for talking a lot. I am somewhat socially awkward and I try to clarify myself as much as possible. 129.64.0.33 (talk) 03:31, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

- Hi, IP editor, the most relevant policy is Wikipedia:Notability, which generally requires significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. Apparently Mar-a-Lago face is notable and libtard was not, as agreed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Libtard (2nd nomination) in 2018. TSventon (talk) 03:55, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- So, how should I respond? Should I respond? I think they might have been venting rather than being serious. 129.64.0.33 (talk) 04:05, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Also, while I disagree with them, they do have a point in that the Mar-A-Lago face article is clearly meant as an insult. That is fine, I think, but I understand some part of why they are complaining, unless they are complaining for a different reason.129.64.0.33 (talk) 04:07, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Basically, where Mar-A-Lago face is compared with gender-affirming care. Because whether it is similar or not, saying that was definitely intended to upset the people who are in the MAGA camp, because one of its facets is hating transgender people. I find comparing it to gender affirming care funny; other people might not. 129.64.0.33 (talk) 04:11, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Also, it was from almost a month ago, so I am not sure if it is worth it.129.64.0.33 (talk) 04:13, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

...they should make an article about “libtards” if they made an article about “mar-a-lago face”
: This isn't true, since Mar-a-Lago face is an apparent cultural phenomenon, while libtard is just a phrase. As for your question, I would say it's an example of an WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS argument. Children Will Listen (🐄 talk, 🫘 contribs) 04:25, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
Horse racing and trainers
Hello I am very interested in trainers who have trained the first three horses (Trifecta) but I don't seem to be able to find any links to these 212.159.115.225 (talk) 10:07, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
- Are you referring to the three stallions used to found the breed of Thoroughbred racehorses? Each of these Foundation stallions has its own article, linked from that section, with references you can investigate. It may be that the relevant information was never recorded.
- Please note that this Help desk is intended for questions on how to use or edit Wikipedia: factual questions such as this are better asked in an appropriate section of the Reference desk {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.193.153.108 (talk) 14:07, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
- A "trifecta" also refers to a bet on the first three horses to cross the finish line in a horse race. I don't know if that's what you mean, but if so, we don't know what race you are referring to. David10244 (talk) 04:33, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
Exhausted trying to edit
Last attempt on my very first day signed in. I’m trying to add 3 names to arts and entertainment alumni of the University of Pennsylvania. Alan Hale Sr, Everett Sloan, Robert Sully. Please assist. Thank you. Dr. Les. Extremegastro (talk) 17:22, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Alan Hale Sr. doesn't mention his education what-so-ever, and so far as I can tell we don't have an article on either of the other two. (If the last one is intended to be Robert "Sully" Sullivan, the article blatantly contradicts Extremegastro above by stating, with sources, that he attended San Diego State University.) —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 17:34, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Only Alan Hale Sr has a Wikipedia article, but it mentions nothing about where he went to school, so possibly you're referring to a different "Alan Hale Sr" who doesn't have a Wikipedia article, in which case you shouldn't try to add it to the list without confirming that it's the same person. Everett Sloan and Robert Sully don't have Wikipedia articles, so don't try to add them to the list. ~Anachronist (who / me) (talk) 17:39, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Robert Joseph Sully was an actor who appeared in Love Letters 1945. Alan Hale Sr. Mentioned as a graduate of the school in an obituary I easily found. Everett Sloan was an actor in Citizen Kane. 67.14.226.229 (talk) 17:49, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- We understand, but they first need to have articles before they get added to things like alumni lists. 331dot (talk) 18:03, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Everett Sloane (with an e on the end) is memorable in Citizen Kane but I think even more so in The Lady from Shanghai. Our article about him says that he studied at U Penn for two years; but the evidence it provides for this is "Ancestry.com, 1940 United States Federal Census [database on-line]. Provo, UT, US: Ancestry.com Operations Inc., 2012. Retrieved December 30, 2014." Yes: "on-line", retrieved on such-and-such a day, but no URL provided. This is poor. -- Hoary (talk) 22:35, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- I will add Sloane to the list. I can't find anything that says Hale Sr. went to anything other than the Philadelphia College of Osteopathy (Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine? - not associated with the University of Pennsylvania). Robert Sully didn't have a distinguished acting career. Clarityfiend (talk) 22:59, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Jéské Couriano, if one has solid evidence that an American attended one US university as an undergrad, I don't think this disproves a claim that they attended a different US university (even as an undergrad). Moving between universities seems commonplace. (Of course having been born in 1961 does disprove a claim of having had a minor role in the undistinguished Love Letters (1945 film).) -- Hoary (talk) 23:53, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

English version of Swedish article
Hello Wikipedia
I am very pleased with the Wikipedia article on myself sv:Christian Pleijel. It is, if I may say so myself, truthful and useful, although if I do not see precise statistics.
However, I now have assignments in Finnish-speaking Finland, in Brussels and in Shanghai. It would help me a lot if they could find reliable information on me in English, i.e. on English Wikipedia. Is this possible and if so, how?
Kind regards, Christian Pleijel Christian Pleijel (talk) 07:16, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, please see WP:COI. It is generally discouraged to create or edit articles about yourself or people/organizations you are closely linked with. You can see WP:My first article for help creating an article here; in your situation, I'd recommend going through the WP:AfC process, where you submit an article as a draft, and an experienced editor reviews it. This ensures that any potential biases are weeded out. In general, you must meet the English Wikipedia's general notability guidelines. Every language version has different guidelines on notability, so don't assume that an article on Swedish Wikipedia means it is also notable here. You will need reliable, secondary sources covering you. Welcome to the English Wikipedia! jolielover♥talk 08:03, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- I would also note that Wikipedia is not for "finding reliable information". We don't claim the information presented is reliable, see Wikipedia:General disclaimer. It's up to readers to examine the sources provided and evaluate them. 331dot (talk) 09:47, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
Donation
L.S., I have been donating for some years now € 5,00 monthly via my PayPal account. Probably because my Wikipedia account-id is different ( bfabiet01 ), the match isn't made between the two. So, on my Wikipedia home page it mentions that I have not made any donations yet. Could this be rectified ? Kind Regards, Bruno Fabietti Bfabiet01 (talk) 07:05, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Bfabiet01. Thank you for donating. I'm not sure what you mean by your Wikipedia home page, but there is no connection whatever between any donations you may make to Wikimedia and your account at Wikipedia, so there is nothing to rectify. We have no way of identifying donors. You may be interested to read up on Wikipedia finances. Shantavira|feed me 11:42, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- If you are referring to an automated donation request banner, donation records are not attached to accounts, there is no way to know that you, the person sitting at your computer/holding the device, has donated. You can turn off the donation requests in your account preferences. 331dot (talk) 11:44, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

I have even clicked confirm mail button. Still, it hasn't sent me the email verification mail to me. Acceldata (talk) 19:37, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

- I checked in the junk folder or spam or trash, it's not there. I already created the Wikipedia account successfully. But I couldn't get the verification email for creating the account. Acceldata (talk) 06:41, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- I have created the account already. But I am yet to receive an email verification mail. Also, I wanted to know how will I get to know that my edit is approved on a page in Wikipedia? Acceldata (talk) 07:20, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- Also, I wanted to know if I am eligible for creating a page now. My account shows I have done 11 edits and my account is older than 4 days since I created it. Acceldata (talk) 07:22, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Acceldata. I see you have managed to create "a page", and it has been moved to Draft space.
- I'm afraid that you are making many of the common mistakes that people often make when they plunge straight into trying to create an article. My earnest advice to new editors is to not even think about trying to create an article until you have spent several weeks - at least - learning about how Wikipedia works by making improvements to existing articles. Once you have understood core policies such as verifiability, neutral point of view, reliable, independent sources, and notability, and experienced how we handle disagreements with other editors (the Bold, Revert, Discuss cycle), then you might be ready to read your first article carefully, and try creating a draft. If you don't follow this advice but try to create an article without this preparation, you are likely to have a frustrating and disappointing experience with Wikipedia.
- Specifically, your draft is telling what Acceldata wants the world to know. Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is almost exclusively interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. If enough material is cited from independent sources to establish notability, a limited amount of uncontroversial factual information may be added from non-independent sources.
- Finally, there are two things thatyou must do before you do anything more to that draft.
- You must change your username. Usernames that appear to represent an organisation are not permitted. Something like "Fred at Acceldata" would be OK, because it clarifies that the account is personal, as all accounts must be. (You don't have to use your real name). See WP:CHU for changing.
- Since you chose Acceldata as your username, I am assuming you are part of the company. That makes you a paid editor, and you must make a formal declaration of that fact - see the link for how and where.
- It would probably be a good idea for you to read WP:BOSS as well. ColinFine (talk) 13:26, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

Source of complaint: Horace Williams Airport
The following quoted sentence in the Wiki page linked above is not true and has no basis in fact or reality.
"President Kennedy visited UNC in October, 1961 and arrived and departed via Horace Williams Airport."
I have proof from my own experience, and a document of his itinerary to UNC on that historic date from the Kennedy Library that totally destroys that myth. Please contact me to have this error corrected. Furthermore, it would be interesting to know who put that idea there in the first place.

Hoax draft uncertainty
On around September 27, I created Draft:Tropical Storm Matmo (2025). It was quickly deleted because it was deemed a hoax and thus vandalism, violating WP:G3, probably because I made it too early before the storm actually formed.
That's why I want to ask this question: If, for example, I know that there will definitely be a storm named Foo based on the information at that moment. Does creating a draft titled Draft:Tropical Storm Foo, even if just minutes before the corresponding tropical system actually gets named considered a hoax? EmperorChesser 16:16, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
- @EmperorChesser You are more likely to run into the problem mentioned at WP:CRYSTAL rather than being criticised for creating a hoax. It all depends on whether you have decent sources. Mike Turnbull (talk) 21:17, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

Is there a notability noticeboard?
Because, for the past several days now, I've been wondering whether a French musician meets WP:MUSICBIO solely for his contributions to a recent animated-film soundtrack; said page of his has boasted a notability tag since last northern summer. - No he doesn't. But for all I know being called "le nouveau prince noir de la pop française" a decade ago, or some other reference already provided in the article, might point to notability, and a search engine might point to more. (I haven't investigated, and don't intend to do so.) Category:Wikipedia noticeboards doesn't show a notability noticeboard. -- Hoary (talk) 05:00, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

Proper formatting for linking to edit diffs
I’d like to know the proper formatting for linking to in-wiki edit diffs on a page. I’ve previously been using single brackets and copying the url directly to open a new window to display such changes but would like to know the proper formatting for doing so in the future. (For example, 1) I cannot seem to find documentation on this matter. Thank you! BootsED (talk) 19:51, 2 October 2025 (UTC)
- What you're doing is fine. If you put a URL in simple brackets like this
you'll just get brackets around a number. If you a space and some text after the URL like thisExample websiteYou'll get the word "Example website" linked to example.com like this: Example website. You would do a similar thing by pasting the URL for a diff and labeling it with some text. ~Anachronist (who / me) (talk) 01:21, 3 October 2025 (UTC) - Help:Diff#Linking to a diff has a guide if you didn't want to do the full url method :) Nil🥝 01:35, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

Nil🥝 02:28, 3 October 2025 (UTC) - You can also install the User:Enterprisey/diff-permalink.js script, which causes a permalink to the diff to appear on every diff page, along with a Copy button to copy the link to your clipboard. I find it easier than manually extracting part of the URL. CodeTalker (talk) 20:53, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

Fork of a draft

A fork happened to have emerged to a draft article (original, fork). I have taken the lead to merge the two versions with all materials and changes retained, but some have insisted to recreate the fork under the another title and refused to include all materials and past changes. - Thanks, Andy. In short EmperorChesser said he created another fork and somebody else did the same. In reality his fork was created with actual content (with actual content, as opposed to placeholder) eighteen hours later than the oldest page and copied the content from there - as he had indeed marked in the edit summary. (oldest one, EC's fork) In any case all three are now merged under the oldest one where much of the past changes took place. Please work together from there so that the draft may be submitted as it documents the storm's impact from an encyclopaedic standpoint. 124.217.189.70 (talk) 14:31, 2 October 2025 (UTC)

Cannot remove inaccurate category on aricle
On article To Be Hero X i tried to remove a inaccurate category but while the edit was saved the category is still there i tried removing 2025 anime television series debuts because the article is about a donghua not anime Isla🏳️⚧ 22:31, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Isla.
- This is because the category is automatically added by Template:infobox animanga/Video if the first date is in the current year and before now. It looks as if the template was written assuming it would be used only for anime.
- That part of the category name (and other similar categories) is hard-coded.
- I suspect the answer is either to make a duplicate set of infobox templates for donghua, or to parametrise the type.
- I suggest you bring this up at Template talk:infobox animanga, and (as suggested at the top of that page) leave a message at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anime and manga pointing to your discussion. ColinFine (talk) 22:57, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

Template not displaying
I added User distributed proofreaders to my user page (okrick); however, it does not appear in Category:Wikipedians who contribute to Distributed Proofreaders, . In addition, the badge itself does not display on my user page, whereas the Internet Archive badge did appear correctly when I applied the same format. Could you please let me know if the template is not functioning properly, or if I may have implemented it incorrectly? Okrick (talk) 23:11, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- Okrick, you have attempted to add templates to your user page, but the fact that they display in red (as does "User distributed proofreaders" above) shows that they don't exist. Little wonder that a non-existent template doesn't do anything. A look at somebody else's user page suggests to me that what you need is
. -- Hoary (talk) 00:10, 1 October 2025 (UTC) - That template was moved to User:Scepia/Distributed Proofreaders in 2007, and the redirect was deleted. I have fixed the transclusion on your user page. jlwoodwa (talk) 00:11, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

Suggest page for a person
i want to suggest to create a page for a person who is a public figure on google . how can i do that Shalakahn (talk) 16:05, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how anyone can be a public figure on a search engine, but regardless, you first need to read Wikipedia:Notability (people), and then, if you are sure that the necessary independent sourcing can be found, you could try adding their name to the relevant subcategory at Wikipedia:Requested articles. Realistically though, such requests tend to take a considerable time to have any result, if they get taken up at all. This is a volunteer project, and nobody is obliged to write on any particular topic. AndyTheGrump (talk) 16:37, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- I too am curious as to how one can be a public figure on a search engine; that would qualify pretty much every human being a Wikipedia article. 331dot (talk) 18:05, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Suddenly I feel famous! ~Anachronist (who / me) (talk) 19:04, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Shalakahn. ColinFine (talk) 20:25, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- From the evidence presented at User:Shalakahn/sandbox, your subject, Hemant Nandgaonkar, does not yet qualify for an article in Wikipedia. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:50, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

How do I check if my writing on this article has similar content to AI? I used a paraphrasing website and QuillBot to check for grammar mistakes and get some sentence-building ideas.

- You shouldn't be doing those things. Pleas write with your own words. Everybody gets stuck on how to phrase things, and that's fine. IP Ban Appeal/Complaint
Dear Help Desk,
I had an IP ban and filed an appeal. I would like to know whom I complain to about this because I was given no reason. The ban was resolved, but I still would like to file a complaint.
Thanks,
David Davidpdx (talk) 05:30, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, Davidpdx. The situation you experienced is explained at Wikipedia:IP block exemption. In brief, it seems that someone else (not you) engaged in disruption of Wikipedia on an IP range that you share with them. The same thing happened to me a number of years ago and it was resolved the same way. What reason would satisfy you? What would the substance of your complaint be? I see no reason for you to complain but perhaps there is something about your situation that I do not understand. Cullen328 (talk) 05:56, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- Cullen328, thank you for your reply. What I would like is for those who are banning IPs to follow the procedures. To clarify, should people who are doing this provide a reason? No reason was provided for the ban. I understand this is a common problem. I don't believe I share an IP address with someone unless they are on my internet connection. Also I live in Korea and I kind of doubt anyone in my immediate neighborhood would go on Wikipedia and somehow abuse the rules. The problem that I have no idea what rules were broken or for which page?
- I guess I should just shut up and be glad to got my access back. Davidpdx (talk) Davidpdx (talk) 12:19, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- You very likely do, or did, but unless you tell us the IP address concerned (and of course you are under no obligation to do so), we cannot advise further. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:36, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- Davidpdx There is a difference between a block and a ban; I'm fairly sure you're referring to a block. There are many ways an IP address can be used by multiple people, but without knowing your IP we cannot advise you further(as noted). 331dot (talk) 12:39, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- What you describe is a not-uncommon occurrence, and not reflective of you as a user; it's just a function of the fact that IPs can be shared. I'm not sure what your grievance is or what you hope to accomplish with it. 331dot (talk) 08:04, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- You could complain to your internet service provider. They will probably tell you that you have to pay extra if you wish to have your own, fixed, IP address. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 08:44, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Davidpdx Note that the English Wikipedia will be switching to WP:Temporary accounts, probably tomorrow, so this sort of problem should be much less common as your temporary account will be associated with your specific device, not your IP address. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:25, 6 October 2025 (UTC)

Editing an Article
Hello, I have been working on some articles for a while now. Some of them I was paid for. Unfortunately lately I got into an online debate on the fact that I was not disclosing it properly on my user page and my editing abilities were blocked. I have tried time after time to correct my ways according to what I was told was needed but was refused. At the moment I'm struggling since I still want to make some changes to an existing article that I have been working on. I was advised to write a requests for other editors to make these changes for me and did so on the article's talk page and on personal messages as well to different editors. I get complete ignore - so at this point I'm completely stuck! you can see my article and requests here: Ran Balicer any advice or help will be extremely appreciated. MrEksh (talk) 09:47, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- @MrEksh My advice is to continue this discussion at Talk:Ran Balicer so that the discussion is all in one place. You have been given plenty of sound advice there. This is a collaborative project and you are expected to work with other editors to achieve consensus. Shantavira|feed me 12:53, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- As a paid editor, you should be proposing changes via edit requests on talk pages, not trying to edit articles yourself. Category:Wikipedia conflict of interest edit requests has a pretty large backlog, and editors generally like to spend their time improving Wikipedia rather than doing unpaid work in behalf of someone getting paid for it.
- Also, if your requests are complex rewrites rather than simple incremental changes, editors would likely go for the simpler ones. I have declined your edit request partly for that reason, but mostly because your rewrite was wholly unsourced. ~Anachronist (who / me) (talk) 17:50, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

At Ted Kaczyński's page his name is pronounced wrong. It's not prounanced Khezynski I think it would be better to change it. It's prounanced kaʈ͡ʂɨj̃skʲi according to IPA 83.8.99.58 (talk) 17:47, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, IP user. I have no doubt that that is how the name would be pronounced (and spelled) in Polish. Many Americans of foreign origin pronounce their names in an anglicized way, not according to the conventions of the original languages. How do you know how Kaczynski pronounced it?
- In any case, the talk page Talk: Ted Kaczynski is the best place to discuss this, and indeed searching the archives for that talk page I see the matter has been discussed four times before, though I haven't looked to see what people said about it. ColinFine (talk) 18:06, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
Area codes

- Special:Diff/1314511044 looks typical, I think? If what you want is a bot that looks for links to Area code 707 and make sure it's linked as 707, 369 wherever it appears, then you'd need a new one. WP:BOTREQ is the place to ask. You'll have to describe the task a lot more clearly than you've done here. (If you just want it to translate 707 to 707, it'll get rejected for sure; see WP:NOTBROKEN.)Somewhat lighter-weight, there's ways to make them easier to find. Help:Link color#Styling all links just for you (and in particular, its subheading Help:Link color#Redirect) will let you recolor links to redirects, so they stand out more when you actually go to a page. And quarry:query/97651 has a list of all articles linking to one of these redirects, though there's unfortunately no way to limit it to links specifically from infoboxes, nor to see what the displayed text is. —Cryptic 00:07, 2 October 2025 (UTC)

If you're instead asking about having someone create a new article you can look at Requested Articles, keeping in mind that because Wikipedia is a volunteer service most article requests won't be completed. This text is about the "Greco-Turkish War 1919". The supporters section says "Japan" and there is no definitive source that Japan directly supports Greece. Article in sand box
I have had an article in my sandbox for months. Can you look to see if I need to do anything else to submit the article for approval? KLAS66 (talk) 22:07, 2 October 2025 (UTC)
His unique take on the various styles of American Roots, Western, Country, Folk, Rock, and Blues is never forced or contrived but is naturally appealing to many sub-genres of Americana Music.
Et cetera. This is a mere advertisement; it doesn't resemble an encyclopedia article. Submitting it would be a waste of your time. -- Hoary (talk) 22:43, 2 October 2025 (UTC)
- User:KLAS66/sandbox does, however, closely resemble what's visible to non-payers such as myself of IMDb's piece ("Self-verified on IMDbPro") on Cam Pierce. -- Hoary (talk) 23:03, 2 October 2025 (UTC)
- I note that even for those of us who haven't paid to be "Pro", a look in the source code of the IMDb page shows stuff that is neither normally displayed nor in this draft. (Random example:
Several of Cam\u0026#39;s songs allude to his faith, hope, and desire to be better tomorrow than yesterday.) KLAS66, please comment on the close resemblance between User:KLAS66/sandbox and the IMDb bio. -- Hoary (talk) 00:03, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
Unable to log in to primary account
Hi, it has been over a decade since I last tried to use my primary Wikipedia account (User:Merond_e). Wikipedia has remained important to me as an end user, but I haven't had the capacity to restore my original account. I am finally trying to find some resolution to this after many years. I was able to restore access to my doppelganger account which I'm using to make this request, but for some reason even when I did the password reset by email it did not restore access to my primary account. I thought maybe it had my old email address on it, and I just yesterday restored access to that in case that was the issue but it does not seem to be connected with Wikipedia. Is there any way I could restore access to my primary account? Thanks! Merond (talk) 03:38, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
Make a page
Support Team,
I wanna make a page. How do i? I am a beginner. Preeti Mahapatra (talk) 05:48, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
- See Your first article. Please bear in mind the advice that you should not create an article about something that you are involved with on a personal level. It is quite hard for beginners to create a new article from scratch, so it is best to gain some experience with editing other articles first. Also, it would be best to create a draft article to get feedback from other users.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:26, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
- In July, you created User:Preeti Mahapatra, which started
Preeti Mahapatra is an Indian businesswoman, philanthropist, and political leader renowned for her work in international business, grassroots activism, and public welfare. Her journey blends entrepreneurial excellence with a compassionate vision for social transformation.
Later in July, you re-created it, but this time as User:Preeti Mahapatra/sandbox. With the exception of your question above, all your contributions to en:Wikipedia so far have been about Preeti Mahapatra. Do you still intend to write about Preeti Mahapatra? -- Hoary (talk) 08:00, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

Hello. Just a few minutes ago, I converted some graphs on articles such as the American Federation of Musicians article to the current ones. However, since some of these articles have two graphs, I might need some advice on putting them side by side as needed if one wants to place them on the right side or on the left side. Thanks. Tim Kane Wikipedia Page
Hi,
I was looking for the Wikipedia Page on Tim Kane and found it missing. All links and searches for Tim Kane on Wikipedia revert to the page "2018 Ohio's 12th congressional district special election". I could not find any recent updates in the Deletion log for Tim Kane either. What happened and how can this page be restored? 107.77.202.65 (talk) 15:35, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tim Kane. The edit history of the current redirect has versions from where you could begin again, assuming you can find additional sources to confirm his notability. The earlier article was not deleted but was turned into the redirect. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:42, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

Please note that these guidelines are very specific, what you might think counts for notability is not the same as what counts as notability for Wikipedia's purposes. Based on your username I have to also point out that if you're in some way connected to John Carlo you are subject to Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidlines and are strongly discouraged from doing any editing in regards to John Carlo. Finally, as you've posted here about potentially creating an article for the subject, be aware you may be contacted here or via email by someone offering to create that article for you, often in exchange for being paid. Be aware that this sort of thing is usually a scam and often additional violate the policies on paid editing. Amstrad00 (talk) 18:08, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

The issue, IP editor, is that you have provided no reliable published source to back up the fact that Bond resided in Rumson and her own biography here doesn't mention it. Adding myself
Editing
Hello,
I wanted to see what the timeline is to have a page reviewed, edited, and approved. Please see below. Do I need to be aware of any additional rules given this submission? Draft:Spreedly. Kyvyny (talk) 20:43, 2 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Kyvyny. You have
nownot submitted your draft for review. If you did submit it for review it may be several months before it is reviewed, as we have 3,000 drafts waiting to be reviewed and only a limited number of volunteer reviewers. - It would be helpful for you to familiarise yourself with Wikipedia:Criteria for inclusion (organizations and companies) and ensure that the topic of your draft meets this. qcne (talk) 21:10, 2 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Kyvyny. ColinFine (talk) 12:24, 4 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Kyvyny That draft is extremely promotional, and I predict that if it submitted in its current state, it will be declined. Colin Fine has listed some links that you need to click on (the words in blue) and digest. Funding rounds, for example, don't contribute to notability. David10244 (talk) 07:12, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
Change edit summary
Recently I implemented an edit request, but, being my first one, I forgot to credit the original author in my edit summary. AfC submission question
Hi. Just a very short question today: If I were to submit a draft and later realized it was a fork from a previously existing draft, can people just copy-paste to the previous draft and leave a redirect without saying anything? EmperorChesser 01:40, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
- For example Draft:Foo (2025) is a fork of Draft:Foo. Can anyone take all the content in Draft:Foo (2025), copy-paste it to Draft:Foo, then leave a redirect in the former draft? EmperorChesser 01:42, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
- The quick answer is no. To repeat what you've been told: Please refer to WP:Move ("Do not move or rename a page by copying/pasting its content...") to learn about why cut-and-paste moves shouldn't be done on Wikipedia. 203.145.95.215 (talk) 01:49, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
- I remember having submitted Draft:Tropical Storm Matmo (2025), which you guys said was a fork, then you just casually copy-paste on Draft:Tropical Storm Matmo, which by now has been deleted. Real example here, what do you have to say? EmperorChesser 01:54, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
- Neither did it happen on my part from what I can recall, nor was the page deleted. The key was about whether efforts have been paid to keep things at the same place whenever possible, and attribute when it's necessary. 203.145.95.215 (talk) 05:12, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
- For the record this violation of WP:Move, committed after the reminder above, has been brought to AN/I. 203.145.95.215 (talk) 11:33, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
- If you cannot reply with something reasonable or don't reply at all, I will assume you (or someone else) did it, which means you guys are wrong in this case. EmperorChesser 02:13, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
- EmperorChesser. you write above: "Draft:Tropical Storm Matmo, which by now has been deleted". Here's some of its history:
- At 05:29, 4 October 2025, editor MAS0802 moved Draft:Tropical Storm Matmo to Draft:Tropical Storm Matmo (Deleted)
- At 06:01, 4 October 2025, editor 203.145.95.215 (talk | block) 77 changed the redirect target of Draft:Tropical Storm Matmo from Draft:Tropical Storm Matmo (Deleted) to Draft:Deleted---
- At 06:28, 4 October 2025, editor Liz deleted Draft:Tropical Storm Matmo, because it was a redirect to a non-existent page
- A strange history, but now I hope a little easier to understand. -- Hoary (talk) 08:29, 5 October 2025 (UTC)

- And more. There is an article at Typhoon Matmo (2025). There is much discussion at Draft talk:Tropical Storm Matmo 2025. This is of course the talk page for Draft:Tropical Storm Matmo 2025, which "may meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion" and thus is likely to disappear very soon. If it's deleted, its talk page will probably be deleted with it. Anyone who thinks that it (the talk page) should be preserved after the draft is deleted might suggest that it be moved somewhere (perhaps to Talk:Typhoon Matmo (2025)/Tropical Storm Matmo 2025). -- Hoary (talk) 09:07, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
AfD or ?
I stumbled across this article Howard J. Buss by accident but quickly saw the glaring problems. Obviously it passes GNG but only if what is stated (awards, international recordings) is true. However, all of the references are drawn from the same primary source directly linked to the BLP's website. The only secondary is "not available". There is just too much content for absolutely no RS. Is this an AfD or a major scrub and template placing overhaul? The creating editor Suemanning1972 contributions have only been to create this page and to place entries of the BLP's works on corresponding instrumental WP pages for promotion: . I don't know why, but they removed the COI tag recently: . The editor uploaded an image of the BLP: but claimed the image as "own work" under the name Judy E Buss. Maineartists (talk) 01:40, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
- Possible COI: BLP publisher Brixton Publications. Creating editor submitted article on Publisher: , . ::Maineartists (talk) 02:21, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Maineartists: GNG is about significant coverage in independent reliable sources, and the sources in the article don't show that. However a Google books search finds some potentially useful sources, e.g. an article in The Heritage Encyclopedia of Band Music and a review of a piece in Gramophone (magazine) in 2005, so the article could be improved. I presume that Google won't have uploaded all the relevant books and magazines, so it may be hard to find enough sources to show notability. TSventon (talk) 02:51, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, that is why I said: if what is stated is true. It is obvious that there is a clear COI happening at this article, and that presently there are no reliable sources to back any of the multitude of claims within it. It will take a major overhaul to bring it up to WP standards. I am just always amazed when I stumble across articles such as this and see other registered WP editors in the history summary editing and not bringing any issues either on the page itself or the Talk Page. At least intforce attempted to place a COI. I'm not busy with other articles at the moment, I may place an UNDER CONSTRUCTION template and have at it. Thanks Maineartists (talk) 14:18, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

Can't edit image in infobox
- resets to default logo even when its not specified in the infobox.
im so confused. i was cleaning up some stuff on the "Liberstad" wikipedia page, and i tried to put the flag, and the coat of arms side by side like i see in many infoboxes, but instead, i got the flag and the coat of arms side by side with a large image of the coat of arms on top! i tried deleting all of the images itself, changing them. even when i change the url of the image to be just the flag, it stayed as the coat of arms. Thmxrist (talk) 08:34, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

Courtesy link: Draft:Liberstad. At first glance the problem may be the use of "thumb" in the extra images or your use of parameters not recognised by that infobox. I'll leave it to others to suggest a solution. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:38, 3 October 2025 (UTC) - @Thmxrist I think I've fixed it now for you – see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE, you only need to put

- @Thmxrist You have submitted your draft for review but I predict it will be rapidly declined for lack of sources allowing verification. For example, you say
Despite this, progress is slow, and necessary permits have not been applied for sufficiently.
According to whom is this true? I also doubt that the current draft shows that this development is notable. It needs more independent sources. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:37, 3 October 2025 (UTC)- sorry, i was talking about the norwegian liberstad wiki, i got a bit mixed up since i barely slept today lol, sorry about that. and with that example too, i got most of this from my father John Holmesland, so theres few sources. ill add more sources, thank you. - @Thmxrist In view of where you say you got most of the information, you need to read this page about conflicts of interest. I suspect that there is no such journal and that this is an example of an AI hallucination. Is that the case? Some other citations show the same issue. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:41, 6 October 2025 (UTC)

Thmxrist (talk) 11:20, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
- The problem now is not so much any mistakes but the fact that virtually all the citations are to Liberstad's own website. Hence there is no real evidence the topic is notable as required by Wikipedia, for which only reliable sources independent of the subject and with significant coverage are useful. If it gets backlogged again, feel free to leave me a ping/note (though I agree that it's currently being done by maybe 3/4 regulars, which is unsustainable and more participation there would be helpful). There are also other venues you can look to, e.g. specific WikiProject assessment request pages (such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Transport/Assessment#Requesting an assessment). (Well, technically, Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikipedia/Assessment#Assessment requests is a WikiProject-specific page too, but it has accidentally become the "main general requests" page). Disagreement on preferred plural enwiki vs. enwikt
The english language Wikipedia article for interregnum has interregna as the first plural and interregnums as second. enwikt (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/interregnum} has them reversed. While I'd expect some of the situation to be equivalent to two WP in different languages disagreeing, I'm not sure if there is any place appropriate to bring that up. (Note, Google Trends doesn't even help, not enough usage, oed doesn't have a plural, M&W agrees with the wiktionary page. Naraht (talk) 18:22, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Naraht (The correct wikt link is wikt:interregnum.)
- M&W states the plurals are "interregnums or interregna";
- Collins "-nums or -na" (British English) and "interregnums or interregna" (American);
- dictionary.com has plurals as "interregnums, interregna", but in American English only.
- Cambridge, like Oxford, is not letting on what it thinks (without a possible fee).
- My printed 1964 Concise Oxford Dictionary (Fifth Edition)'s entry reads "interrĕg'num, n. (pl. -na or -nums)". A 1932 edition of Odhams Press's New English Dictionary has just "interregnum ... n. (pl. -nums)".
- None with an opinion qualify their entries to give a preference of one plural over the other. So it seems that there are two forms of the plural in use, neither having a recorded preference over the other. Google's AI overview, when asked
interregnums or interregna, elaborates:"Both interregnums and interregna are correct plural forms of interregnum. The choice between them depends on the style guide being followed, though both are widely accepted. ... Interregna is the traditional Latin plural form, carrying the classical weight of the word's origins (from inter- "between" and rēgnum "reign"). Interregnums is the modernized English plural, which follows the standard rule of adding "-s" for plurality. This form is generally more common in everyday, less formal writing."
- I'm not sure what you're wanting done. Bazza 7 (talk) 19:34, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- Bazza_7Thank you for the help on the proper way to link to wiktionary. I was basically wondering less as to which was correct and more whether disagreement on order of plurals represented something that should be "fixed" to make them consistent with each other and whether there was a wikiproject (either here or on wikt that focused on that. (I was wondering which plural to use and since the Wiki projects have the knowledge of the Universe :) , it was a "hunh".)
- I'm not sure if a list of plurals could be counted as Wikidata and generated somehow in both articles and wikt entries.Naraht (talk) 19:58, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Naraht: Who would decide the order of alternative plurals? For some words, reliable sources would tell us what plural version to put first by stating which is the commonest.
- But, as we've discovered with "interregnum", such clear information is not always available. We could do it alphabetically, or toss a coin, but I suspect that would be less than ideal for some words. Or editors could have a !vote about it, but that would go against the requirement to only include verifiable facts.

- Thank you to Hoary for the ngram check. I tried to figure out how to do that, but failed. While interregnums seems to be somewhat more common, there are are years where it is slightly the reverse. Apparently (sarcasm and bad idea), the only solution is to use Template:Random item to determine the order.Naraht (talk) 17:19, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

A new description feature in posts?
I frequent the Help Desk and Teahouse regularly. Recently, I've noticed a number of posts that seem to have a subheading, like a description, at the top of a post. I looked at the source of a few of these and I see that they are preceded with a colon (explaining the indenting) but the content is always similar to a subtitle suggesting that it isn't a case of a user accidentally adding a colon in the first line.
For example, see #No_hyperlink or #Ted_Kaczyński above.
Is this a new feature that I missed? Madam Fatal (talk) 19:32, 6 October 2025 (UTC)

contentious topic
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I recently began to update pages that have been flagged as contentious topics. I am a scientist and have been trying to reference current research. The document unfortinately is gang edited by ableist denyers of autistic people's needs, which is leading to an editing war. I would like to study how I can make an impact in primary source literature for the betterment of society. Please refer me to academic reading material on case studies where the scientists accomplished this in spite of the naysayers. Spotoninuity (talk) 05:00, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

autistic people's needs
. I am a scientist
...Please refer me to academic reading material
—do you sense the contradiction? Scientists usually know how to find their sources. And WP:PRIMARY medical studies get rejected out of hand, see WP:MEDRS. tgeorgescu (talk) 05:12, 8 October 2025 (UTC)- Blanket reverts under the label “not constructive” in contentious topics undermine both scientific ethics and Wikipedia’s collaborative standards. Citing a reverted page does not reliably substitute for primary source evidence or meaningful engagement with the content itself. Spotoninuity (talk) 05:15, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- Well, here at Wikipedia, we do not like
primary source evidence
. We seek WP:SECONDARY sources. tgeorgescu (talk) 05:17, 8 October 2025 (UTC)- According to Wikipedia policy, a peer-reviewed scientific study that gathers direct observations (eye tracking of spellers) and presents analysis, synthesis, or conclusions about those observations functions as an authoritative secondary source in that context. Such sources are foundational to Wikipedia articles because they provide interpretation and evaluation of primary data, and their analytic claims may be included in Wikipedia per core sourcing policies. Spotoninuity (talk) 05:26, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- You do not make the WP:RULES. Our house, our rules. If you're pleading for primary research: you've already lost this dispute. tgeorgescu (talk) 05:27, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- FC is a contentious topic because it involves a genuine controversy where reliable sources differ in their views. This designation is meant to encourage careful, constructive editing and ensure that multiple perspectives are fairly represented for the benefit of readers. Spotoninuity (talk) 05:49, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- See WP:FRINGE. tgeorgescu (talk) 05:50, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- The designation of a topic as “fringe” on Wikipedia requires that the subject be recognized as such by reliable secondary sources, not just through unilateral editor decisions or revert wars. Wikipedia’s core policies emphasize neutrality and fair representation of significant viewpoints. If both sides of a controversy are not allowed discussion and presentation with due weight, it contradicts Wikipedia’s principles of neutrality and open collaboration. Constructive debate and properly sourced information from all notable perspectives must be allowed for readers to get a balanced understanding, especially in contentious topics. Restricting discussion without community consensus undermines these foundational policies and goes against the spirit of Wikipedia. Spotoninuity (talk) 05:54, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- Are you using a WP:LLM? tgeorgescu (talk) 05:57, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- I am using an AI editor only to refine my grammar, not to generate ideas or content. Wikipedia encourages this for non-native English speakers as long as I review the language and ensure all edits meet policy.
- Are you relying on page reverts and labeling dissenting views as “pseudoscience,”? You are disregarding the foundational role of science-based sources on Wikipedia. Suppressing scientific evidence through revert actions instead of substantive discussion goes against Wikipedia’s core content policies, which require verifiable, reliable sources and fair representation of all significant positions. Spotoninuity (talk) 06:09, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- I don't believe that. The reason is that LLMs do not understand the rules of Wikipedia, so they cannot help you write good arguments. Wikipedically speaking, all your arguments are bad. tgeorgescu (talk) 06:22, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- Using talk page discussions, seeking consensus, and adhering strictly to neutrality and reliable sourcing ensures that all significant viewpoints are considered and that disputes are resolved transparently and fairly, in line with community guidelines. This process is central to managing contentious topics collaboratively and maintaining trust in Wikipedia’s editorial standards. Spotoninuity (talk) 06:22, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- As I said: all your arguments miss the point. tgeorgescu (talk) 06:24, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- Wikipedia exemplifies the social construction of knowledge, emphasizing that editors are expected to add content supported by the consensus of mainstream reliable sources—such as peer-reviewed research or reporting from reputable news organizations. This approach underscores that Wikipedia’s editorial process is collective, relying on verifiability and public consensus, not individual authority or unsourced expertise. (Yes, I have a published sandbox). Spotoninuity (talk) 06:28, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- Stop it! LLMs don't understand what they write. They don't understand the rules of Wikipedia, and cannot produce good Wikipedic arguments. tgeorgescu (talk) 06:30, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- Calling FC "scientifically discredited" must be supported by reliable secondary sources per Wikipedia policy on verifiability and reliable sourcing. If editors reject scientific sources yet keep that wording without acknowledging the controversy, they violate neutrality and verifiability policies requiring fair representation of all significant viewpoints. Spotoninuity (talk) 06:31, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- You are still missing the point. You have produced 0 (zero) credible arguments.
- You have to answer to the point, not using vacuous generalities. tgeorgescu (talk) 06:38, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- It is contradictory to dismiss something as "scientifically invalidated" while simultaneously rejecting scientific sources as not credible. Here, the contention is generated when Wikipedia’s policies on transparently sourced arguments are violated, especially by dismissing credible scientific sources without justification. This undermines the legitimacy of the editorial process and fuels conflict instead of consensus. Spotoninuity (talk) 06:39, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

- Your use of AI to rewrite your comments is not "encouraged" by WP:LLM, it only says you may use a chatbot to review your grammar or translate words you are unfamiliar with. When you use paragraphs of 5 dollar words to say "you are violating NPOV" over and over again, it makes you seem like you don't understand what tgeorgescu is saying. HansVonStuttgart (talk) 08:29, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- There are some things to unpack: WP:NPOV does not mean pure, unadulterated neutrality (a la Larry Sanger). It means WP:GEVAL, it means WP:PSCI, it means WP:DUE and so on.
- Even if it meant that, Wikipedia follows a British Constitution model, so other policies and guidelines tweak what NPOV means. tgeorgescu (talk) 11:00, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

How many taxa are needed for a list page?
For articles on Wikipedia that are just lists of organisms, such as List of Aedes species or others, how many taxa should I need before I can create a page for the list? E.g., 10 extinct species in a genus isn't probably enough for an entire page. Sevenstxrsquid (talk) 08:07, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- I don't know if it's written in a policy. Generally "8 items" is the minimum for a list, but 10 is better. Compare list of calomyscids, which was merged with the main article for the rodent family because it was so small and had maybe 8 entries depending on taxonomic consensus at the time, to list of capromyids, which has 10 living species. Extinct species are trickier to define... I recall there was another list of taxa that was controversial for being too short and ended up being merged as well. -- Reconrabbit 13:40, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

Dominion of Newfoundland: getting a script warning
Hi,when I open Dominion of Newfoundland for editing, I get this warning: "Script warning: NEWFOUNDLAND ("Newfoundland") is not a recognized country in ISO 3166-1 (Module:ISO 3166)." No idea what it means or why it's there. (Note: an IP editor recently edited the article to say that Newfoundland was a sovereign country; I've reverted the first line to say it was a British Dominion; see edit note. I don't know if that reference to "sovereign country" somehow triggered this warning?) Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 12:52, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Mr Serjeant Buzfuz: I believe that was actually caused by one your earlier edits where you changed the article to use Template:Infobox former country and added common_name-parameter. However there is no former country template - it simply redirects back to Infobox country, which then automatically tries to use common_name to look up iso 3166 if no specific iso 3166 parameter is given. I don't think it is a problem however, that error is only visible in edit preview and not in final article. MKFI (talk) 13:36, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. Would it help if I changed it to the infobox: country template? Why is there a template that just refers to another template? Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 13:40, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Mr Serjeant Buzfuz. It's simply a redirect. Templates (including infoboxes) often have alternative names: it makes no difference which name you use.
- The documentation for that infobox says
|iso3166code = omit <! -- For a country or geopolitical version of a country that ceased to exist prior to the introduction of iso3166-- >(I've altered the HTML comment sequence so that the comment shows up above).- So if you add that line to the infobox call it should get rid of the warning. Trouble with "What links here"
Having just moved 2025 Madagascar coup d'état, I'm trying to update links to what is now a redirect. However, at Special:WhatLinksHere/2025 Madagascar coup d'état there are ~250 items, most of which do not, in fact, link to 2025 Madagascar coup d'état anywhere that I can see. I've moved a page like this before, but I don't remember this being an issue.
The WhatLinksHere page seems to be showing me a bunch of things that have "coup d'état" in them instead of links to the page that I'm looking for links to Placeholderer (talk) 14:35, 12 October 2025 (UTC)

Clarification on ChatGPT-Linked URLs in Content
Hi everyone, Need Clarification , I noticed that some URLs include the parameter utm_source=chatgpt.com. That means those links or articles were likely generated or added using an AI LLM or . Should we remove that tracking parameter from the URLs, or would you prefer those articles to be rewritten to avoid any AI-sourced tag being visible? Just wanted to confirm the right approach.
please try searching for utm_source=chatgpt.com , you will see it appears in many sources and articles, and in the past.. I had already removed references that included this parameter, but now I’m noticing it has been used in several articles again. Bech07 (talk) 11:42, 12 October 2025 (UTC)

- Could be worth jumping over to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject AI Cleanup to ask, but my sense is that the parameter shouldn't be removed until after the edit/content has been verified by a human editor; unfortunately, AI has a tendency to hallucinate information not backed up in it's supposed sources. Unix Operating System Attribution

I came across the sentence in your article/page stating: "He created the Unix operating system." I believe this may be inaccurate, as he was actually the co-creator of the Unix operating system.
If I am mistaken, please feel free to correct me.
Thank you. Gdebw (talk) 04:49, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- Did you, Gdebw, perhaps come across the sentence in the article Dennis Ritchie that says (with emphases added)
He created the Unix operating system, C programming language, and B programming language with long-time colleague Ken Thompson
? -- Hoary (talk) 05:29, 6 October 2025 (UTC)- @Gdebw and Hoary: Maybe listing both guys at the beginning of the sentence would be more clear..? Something like "Together with K.T. he was created blah, blah" or "He created, together with K.T., blah, blah". - Hello, @Smart Andrew, and welcome to Wikipedia. Medical history template categories
Hi, I've created this template "Template:Pioneers of surfactant research" and I'm trying to add a category that is something like "Medical history templates" but can't locate anything similar. I had a look in here: but couldn't see anything. Does such a category exist and if not, can I create it? I've not done but it looks pretty straighforward. scope_creepTalk 18:00, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Scope creep: Category:History of science templates only has 15 templates and no field-specific subcategories. I suggest you just use that and Category:Medicine navigational boxes. I think Pioneers of surfactant research has too much description for a navbox. It's more like a list. Navboxes are just meant for navigation between articles. I have never seen a navbox like this. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:32, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @PrimeHunter: How goes it? I was just thinking that during the late afternoon as well and was the reason I stopped working on it earlier. I've not seen anything like that either and it was getting bigger and bigger and its only a 30% of its final size. I think this is the impetus I need to convert it into a list article and just have a small template with a list of names-dates on it, to go with it. That has solved that. Nice one. scope_creepTalk 20:44, 14 October 2025 (UTC)

- I should point out that it seems to start with 1900. Borges123xyz (talk) 20:57, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Borges123xyz: Always name a specific page when you seek help with something you have seen. I tried 1995. It has a long Births section with 12 subsections and a Deaths section with a link to Deaths in 1995 which links 12 articles by month, too much for a single article. I examined the page history. A shorter list was removed in March 2023 with reference to an RfC (request for comment) which must be Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/Archive 199#RFC: split births & deaths from year articles. Maybe that's what you are after but it's hard to tell when you have still only narrowed it down to 126 articles after three posts. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:27, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Interstellarity has made some mass changes to year articles recently that removed the contents of the Births and deaths section and replaced it with an attempt to link to a category I think, although the text is corrupted with formatting code visible. For example see any year between 1944 and 1962, as well as many others. There is a discussion on the editor's talk page and I hope and believe that they are in the process of correcting this. CodeTalker (talk) 21:45, 14 October 2025 (UTC)

Referencing errors on Chemetco
Reference help requested. Message: Hi, I need some help with reference errors on the Chemetco article. After editing the lead section offline and pasting it back in, a group of named references are now showing as missing. The bottom of the article lists errors like: Cite error: The named reference EPAHistory was invoked but never defined Cite error: The named reference IllinoisEPA was invoked but never defined Cite error: The named reference Business1999 was invoked but never defined, etc. Before this edit, all references were working perfectly. The citations still appear in the References list, but the calls in the text can’t find them. I tried again on my own initiative, but I simply don’t know enough about the back end of these pages to make sense of it. I do appreciate the help I had earlier today, but it didn’t resolve the issue, and it’s important that the references are fixed soon given the significance of the material. I’d really appreciate help from someone experienced with citations to restore or relink the missing named references without losing the edits to the lead. Monarchs column on list

- If not, could it be an issue of different browsers not all treating it the same? The Landvogts list looks mostly right, to me. However, I've noticed in the past that on my browser there seems to be a final step in formatting these wiki tables, in which all the pictures are resized according to ... whatever they get resized according to. Biography
I would like to publish my biography in Wikipedia. Please advise on the procedure. Thank you. MLSantaella (talk) 17:18, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- The best advice in most cases is to not do it. Publishing your biography somewhere, such as on your personal website, is fine, but people writing their own biography usually find Wikipedia's requirements extremely difficult to manage. One of the main problems is that all of the key points in a Wikipedia biography must be things that were already published about you by someone who had no business or social connections with you. For most people it is extremely frustrating that they are not permitted to tell the truth for themselves.
- It's also important to keep in mind that everything on Wikipedia, including biographies of living persons, is free to be edited by anyone. You would not be the owner of the biography, and would not have the right to protect it from other editors. TooManyFingers (talk) 17:52, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- The only absolute requirement for an article to remain on Wikipedia is that the subject must be notable, by our definition: See WP:N. If you are not notable, then do not proceed or you will just be frustrated. There are more than 6 Billion living humans. Most of us are not notable. -Arch dude (talk) 18:10, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- The procedure: You will need to create an article using the official Articles for Creation (AfC) process, which will require you to start the draft article in draftspace. You will also need to declare your conflict of interest per the guidelines. Read the WP:COI guidelines carefully. MmeMaigret (talk) 19:03, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

- @CREditzWiki, scripts like this go into your common.js – yours is at user:CREditzWiki/common.js and I see you already have Mobile Twinkle there. You just need to add this line below the line for Mobile Twinkle:
mw.loader.load( '/w/index.php?title=User:Evad37/rater.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript' ); // Backlink: User:Evad37/raterLikewise, other scripts can be added to the same file, one on each line. The Backlink after the // is a comment and not essential, but helps script developers know how to many people are using the script. User talk template
Is there a user talk page template for if the user adds a question intended for the subject of the article into the article itself? I suppose this would fall under disruptive editing or something but is there a more specific template? Thanks, Chorchapu (talk | edits) 22:15, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
- It would never occur to me, Chorchapu, that there might be such a template. (Even if there were, then looking for it, copying it, pasting it, and adding a short explanatory sentence would probably take me longer than writing a curt but polite message from scratch.) -- Hoary (talk) 22:31, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
- If that happens, especially repeatedly, it's usually a good idea to also add Not a forum to the article's talk page and/ or its edit notice. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:24, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Chorchapu: I don't understand - is the user you or someone else? ie is someone else doing this (which is why you've talked about disruptive editing) or is this something that you want to do. Is the question really for the subject of the article or just a clarification that's needed that you think only the subject can answer? Is the subject also on wikipedia? unconfirmed information
Iam concerned about potentially incorrect information. In particular the fact that a death has been added to an entry which has not yet been officially confirmed by the home office , they have only said A man was attacked and pronounced dead in jail but no name given (Ian Watkins, Lost Phophets) . He is not dead until they officially confirm identity. 82.8.31.109 (talk) 22:34, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
- There's quite a few reliable sources confirming that Ian Watkins has died, for example this and this. I don't think the UK Home Office necessarily confirms all deaths in prison or announces details? Either way, article content is usually based on reliable sourcing rather than just government ones. -- Euryalus (talk) 22:43, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
Template Substitution

This is a template syntax. Since the template uses #invoke:, I couldn’t intuitively see what the output would look like, so I used subst:. However, instead of showing the rendered result, it only displayed the template syntax itself. Could you help me see the actual output? (My original goal is to implement the template as-is without using the #invoke: syntax.)

Succession box rendering at Šuppiluliuma (Kummuh)
Hello, while doing NPP I noticed that Template:Succession box is garbled at the bottom of new article Šuppiluliuma (Kummuh). I don't see a problem with that template at other articles, and I don't see any recent changes to the template or to nested templates that Succession box uses. I tried removing individual lines from the template at the article, but nothing seems to work. Is the problem with something other than the template? Thanks for any help with this. Wikishovel (talk) 05:59, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- The Succession box template needs to be wrapped in S-start and S-end templates, as described in the template documentation. I've done this, which has improved the output, but there is a lot of complexity in these templates and I may not have fixed the usage completely. On that page there is also an invocation of an apparently nonexistent template Persondata; I don't know what the intention was there. CodeTalker (talk) 06:38, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Persondata says "Persondata was a special set of metadata that could be added to biographical articles only. It has now been removed. From now on, such data should be added, with a citation, to Wikidata instead." Maproom (talk) 06:40, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the fix, and apologies for not RTFM carefully before asking. Šuppiluliuma (Kummuh) was a translation of de:Suppiluliuma (Kummuh), which contains that Persondata template (as de:Vorlage:Personendaten), deprecated at German WP. Wikishovel (talk) 07:33, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
donations
I just received an alert asking for donations. In the past, I'd receive these perhaps 2/3 times per years and I'd donate $50. Several years ago, a request came through that had me donating $2.75 per month, which comes nowhere near what I was donating, even out of a small income, because I do appreciate Wikipedia and I use it quite often. However, since I accidentally ended up on this ongoing donation thing (until now) I've not received another request. Because of this most recent request, I've logged in and wandered through all the help pages and I'm hoping that you can help, by seeing to it that perhaps I might receive more messages asking for greater support that $2.75 pm, because if I can help at the time, I will. Cheers guys and thank you for your service 👍🏻🇦🇺 ChocolateTeddyBears (talk) 10:41, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
- @ChocolateTeddyBears You can control whether to see donation banners when logged in via Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-centralnotice-banners. Strange selection of sources
In the Zionism Wikipedia page, all sources are from very recent articals (from the 00's and often even later). Why is that for every other ideology you take sources fromm the pioneers of that ideology (usually around the 1920's, 1880's if not even further back in time) which presents that same ideology as in a neutral light before exposing is for the bad things that it had done (and every ideology had done very bad things when you look at extremeists). Why not show sources from the origin of Zionism in the 1900's and 1910's (and even before) from people like Benyamin Zeev Herzel and show the origin of the ideology before going into the modern day and showing the bad side of Zionism just like how you represent Communism or Facism and even Liberalism. I understand that most of the board is probably antizionist but please remember what you work for and what this website's all about, and not show just a single agenda since if you read just the beginning of the article I was able to spot multiple claims that are straight up lies. I'm not asking to hide all the awful things some Zionists did but the action of extrimists does not represent an entire people. Nate9934 (talk) 16:26, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Nate9934 There is an article at History of Zionism that covers the topic in the way you mention, although its neutrality is disputed. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:05, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- I don't know whether the two articles are separate just due to size or other considerations too, but regardless, "avoiding additional controversy" is now a good reason against merging them. TooManyFingers (talk) 17:34, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

Also Lentz's algorithm is not JUST the category of Special Hypergeometric Functions. That category restricts the new continued fraction method to a single application of Hypergeometric functions such as Bessel functions. AI says: Continued fractions fall primarily under the branch of Number Theory, though they also have significant applications in areas like complex analysis, numerical analysis, and dynamical systems. While commonly encountered in number theory, the concept of continued fractions is a general mathematical tool used for representing numbers and functions, with applications ranging from providing the best rational approximations to solving complex problems in various mathematical fields. Wj lentz (talk) 20:46, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
- In common with the vast majority of the population, Wj lentz, I do not understand the concepts discussed in Lentz's algorithm. (This of course is a criticism of myself or my miseducation, not of the algorithm or the article.) However, I can say that provision of a sound citation permits removal of a "citation needed" flag. But as you are (I presume) the author of the algorithm and several cited works, it shouldn't be you who does this. Instead, you should make suggestions and requests at Talk:Lentz's algorithm. If there's no response for a week or more, then post a message at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics inviting people to look at, and respond at, Talk:Lentz's algorithm. As for categorization -- sorry, I'm going to have to provide a non-mathematical example -- if we have an article about somebody who is both Somali and (US) American, and both a painter and a ceramicist, then it's entirely proper to categorize her as "American painter". Doing so doesn't imply either that she's nothing aside from American or that she's notable for nothing other than her paintings. She can additionally be categorized as a Somali painter, a Somali ceramicist, and an American ceramicist. -- Hoary (talk) 22:26, 9 October 2025 (UTC)

Ensuring accurate translations from English articles
Hello community,
I’ve noticed that the English article Surfshark VPN is translated into several other languages, but some of the translations appear inaccurate, and a few facts do not match the English version. I would like to ensure that translations in other languages remain consistent with the English article and reflect accurate factual information. Since I am affiliated with the subject of the article, I cannot edit the articles myself due to conflict of interest. I would greatly appreciate advice on how to: - Propose corrections or improvements in other languages. - Ensure that volunteer editors can safely implement these updates. - Keep everything fully compliant with Wikipedia’s COI and neutral point of view guidelines.
Any guidance or recommended process would be very helpful. TeaAndPages (talk) 08:59, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
- TeaAndPages First, please formally disclose your COI on your userpage(click your username, currently in red, to access it). If your COI is that you are employed by the company, you are required by the Terms of Use to instead make the stricter paid editing disclosure.
- Each language Wikipedia is a separate project, with their own editors, policies, and practices. You will need to go to each language version to ask what their specific policies are with regards to contributing about this topic. 331dot (talk) 09:04, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
- I stated COI on my page, but I wanted to clarify that this is not a company's initiative but rather my personal initiative to ensure the facts are true. I am not seeking to pay for editing, but I want to ensure that any changes are made in accordance with Wikipedia's rules. Just to make sure, will I need to visit each language talk page and request revisions there, or contact editors directly? TeaAndPages (talk) 09:22, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
- TeaAndPages, 331dot was asking not whether you were suggesting that you would pay other editors to do the work, but whether you were being paid for your efforts to nudge Wikipedia. If "yes" to the latter, you must declare it. (But if the former -- just don't.) If for example you want changes to be made to lt:Surfshark, then you have to go to Lithuanian-language Wikipedia and find out how such requests are made (whether on lt:Aptarimas:Surfshark or elsewhere). Incidentally, there appear to be 11 articles on Surfshark, but you shouldn't assume that any of them started off (let alone has continued to develop) as a translation of another. -- Hoary (talk) 10:41, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

<joking>Maybe there are more klingons than us at all together? If so: who wrote Macbeth — with what words?</joking> — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.166.39.233 (talk) 04:10, 11 October 2025 (UTC)- TeaAndPages, there is absolutely no requirement or even any expectation that translations of Wikipedia articles into other language versions of Wikipedia be consistent from version to version or with the original article. Each language version is an independent project with its own policies, guidelines and administrative processes, as 331dot has already pointed out. Editors at version A may decide that an abridged brief translation is best for their project and editors at version B may decide to include lots of added detail that the original version did not include. Editors at language version C may decide to include a wholly new article on the topic, with a different structure and a different set of references. All language versions should strive for factual accuracy but how that is achieved in other languages is not the business of English Wikipedia editors. Mandarin Chinese has more native speakers than English but that does not matter in this context. The English Wikipedia is not the "Boss Wikipedia" or the "Master Wikipedia". It just happens to be the oldest and the largest (currently). So, an expectation of consistency is not realistic. Cullen328 (talk) 04:30, 11 October 2025 (UTC)

"Who wrote that" tool
There used to be a tool in one of the sidebars which could help you find out who added specified text to the article.
As a particular example, I'm looking at Dallas County, Missouri.
There is a particular sentence, followed by a reference. The sentence is:
- 3.57% percent reported speaking Pennsylvania German or German at home
The reference presumably reporting the percentages, returns a message "sorry! The page you requested could not be found".
I'd like to reach out to the editor who added that sentence to see if they know how to find the original page. I do know how to do a binary search of the edit history but that takes a lot longer than the tool which allowed you to highlight the text and do the search for you. Does that tool still exist? One person, two articles
I discovered from the discussion at User talk:EricPerry that the new-ish Sabah Zita Benson article is about the same person as the much older Zita Okaikoi one. I tagged these as duplicates, but in hindsight that tag probably isn't appropriate here (and in any case doesn't solve the issue!). I suppose the articles should be merged somehow, but I don't think I've ever come across a situation like this, so thought I'd ask for advice before putting my foot in it. For one thing, I'm not even sure which article title should be used going forward. Any thoughts on how to handle this? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:50, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- There are merge to and merge from templates, but those aren't really necessary in this clear-cut situation. A simple redirect from Zita Okaikoi to Sabah Zita Benson is all that's required (plus merged-from and merged-to notices in their respective talk pages). There's nothing in the former that isn't already in the latter and in more detail. Not only that, but ghanahighcommissionuk.com refers to her as Benson, so that's presumably the more WP:COMMONNAME. Also mentioning her ex-husband Andrew Okaikoi would explain why she is referred to by two names. Clarityfiend (talk) 11:33, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- Is it obvious that her current name is the COMMONNAME one, and therefore where the article should be at? I've no idea when she changed her name, but from the age of the older article it's clear that she has been a public figure under her earlier name for a significant length of time. I mean, Cat Stevens is known to most people by that name, not as Yusuf Islam, even if he prefers to use the latter these days. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:18, 14 October 2025 (UTC)

Request to post comment on fully protected WP:NPOVN discussion
Hello,
I am not extended-confirmed and cannot post on fully protected pages. I would like to request that the following **full post** be added to the WP:NPOVN discussion about Gaza genocide on my behalf:
---
I would like to raise a policy concern about the use of the term Gaza genocide on Wikipedia.
Consensus among editors, as cited in previous RfCs, has been used to justify treating this term as established fact. However, consensus cannot override Wikipedia’s core content policies:
- WP:NPOV – Articles must present all significant viewpoints fairly and proportionally.
- WP:RS – Claims must be based on reliable, independent sources. Allegations of genocide are heavily disputed, and no authoritative international body (ICJ, ICC, UN, or any government) has issued a ruling confirming genocide in Gaza.
- WP:UNDUE – Presenting contested claims as established fact gives disproportionate weight to one side of a debate.
Therefore, the current phrasing risks violating these core policies. Editorial consensus does not determine factual truth; it only resolves disputes among editors. Reliable sources should dictate how neutrality is applied.
I recommend that the discussion or any related articles reflect the contested nature of this term, for example by using phrasing such as allegations of genocide in Gaza or some sources describe the events in Gaza as genocide, while others dispute this characterization.
Thank you very much for your time and assistance. Omer7135 (talk) 11:46, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- There's a reason it's a contentious topic. Also this is blatantly AI generated. Aydoh8[what have I done now?] 11:48, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, the reliable sources do describe the conflict as a genocide, so your LLM has contradicted itself. Aydoh8[what have I done now?] 11:51, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- there aren't any reliable sources. genocide is not something that can be declared through words, only actions. there isn't a single country on earth recognizing this as a genocide. there isn't a single international organization recognizing this as a genocide. how can the ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE WORLD contradict what all others say? Omer7135 (talk) 11:52, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- There are currently no authoritative international bodies or governments that have recognized the events in Gaza as genocide. Genocide is a legal term that can only be established through specific criteria and formal determinations, not through statements or opinions. Presenting the term as an established fact gives undue weight to disputed claims and risks violating WP:NPOV and WP:UNDUE. Omer7135 (talk) 11:56, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- Per WP:PIA, editors who are not extended confirmed are not permitted to edit about the Arab-Israeli conflict; this includes on the helpdesk. The only exception is to post edit requests on an articles talk page. Please stop. CoconutOctopus talk 11:59, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, right: "Israel committing genocide in Gaza, world's leading experts say"; "Israel has committed genocide in the Gaza Strip, UN Commission finds"; "Israel/OPT: Israeli organizations conclude Israel committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza in another milestone for accountability efforts". We even have an article, Gaza genocide recognition, which lists the many countries that have recognised the genocide. Disappearing page
Jeff Brady (journalist) existed a few weeks ago. I know because I moved it from Jeff Brady (reporter). Now it doesn't exist. How can I find out what happened to it? ―Mandruss ☎ IMO. 13:41, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- It was deleted following this discussion. There wasn't much participation so it was "soft" deleted and you may request to have it restored at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion if you would like. —Rutebega (talk) 13:58, 14 October 2025 (UTC)

|author-link=and anAbouthatnote)? Cuz that's what happened. ―Mandruss ☎ IMO. 14:24, 14 October 2025 (UTC)- There is some guidance at Wikipedia:Deletion guidelines for administrators#On deleting pages, which says that
If a given title should never have an article, such as an article on someone very obscure, then remove all links to it

Gregg7543
I sent in a submission titled Gregg Balin - Victus Sports and nothing was rejected or accepted. It was never posed online. How do i proceed?
Gregg Balin Gregg7543 (talk) 11:37, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- Your talk page shows that an article about Gregg Balin has been rejected several times. Please see Your first article, particularly where it talks about creating an article related to yourself. This is very unlikely to be accepted as it is a common mistake for new editors, particularly if it is written in a promotional and non-neutral tone.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 12:03, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- Gregg7543. Your unreferenced, self-promotional drafts are unacceptable. Please read WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY and refrain from any further efforts to promote yourself on Wikipedia. Cullen328 (talk) 04:50, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
Dangerous link
How do you report a dangerous link? The link seen on User_talk:Yleventa2 (when clicked on) activated my anti virus program so it shouldn't be there. I don't dare remove it myself certainly without permission, but it might be better to blacklist it as well if you can do that. 2001:8003:5130:2601:6826:33BA:C2AF:7D66 (talk) 10:05, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- IP editor. Assuming you mean the link to a website called corticalchauvinism.com, then it is only used a couple of times in articles and I've checked that the archived version of the first hit is valid. Link rot does happen and can lead to "dangerous links" but in this case I don't think that it is a serious problem. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:20, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- I've removed the link from the user talk page (besides being dangerous, an IP added it to discussion that was marked as closed); and marked the other two uses as usurped. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:21, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
Sent to AFC
I just tried to create a redirect (from Axiom Ince to Ince & Co, which I doubt would be controversial since the legal press usually refers to the matter by the former of these, and the name is prominently mentioned at the target article). But the system tried to send me through AFC as if I were a newbie (which I'm not). Is that supposed to happen? AndyJones (talk) 14:34, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
- @AndyJones: Try again and check that you are logged in on the page view where it happens. Does it happen when you click the red link or when you try to save the redirect? Does it actually prevent you from creating the redirect or does it just show AFC as another option`PrimeHunter (talk) 14:44, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
Heading
Hello - I've just created a new article Diary of a Provincial Lady, which should be in italics as it's the name of a book. I don't know how to correct it - does the page need to be moved? Many thanks Blackballnz (talk) 03:06, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Blackballnz: I have added italic title. An infobox like Infobox book would also italicise the title. TSventon (talk) 03:17, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- @TSventon Many thanks. Much appreciated! Blackballnz (talk) 03:45, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
English version of Hebrew page
- I can’t upload or create the English version of my Hebrew Wikipedia page
Hi, I have an existing Hebrew Wikipedia page (Dr. Yaniv Zaid aka he:יניב זייד) and have done some small edits on other pages. However, I don’t have access to upload or create the English version of my page — it says I don’t have permission. Could someone please help me understand why, and what I need to do to get editing or page creation rights? Thank you, Carinaharon1 (talk) 09:56, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
- You should use the Article Wizard to create and submit a draft for review. Each Wikipedia is a separate project with their own policies- what is acceptable on the Hebrew Wikipedia is not necessarily acceptable here.
- You say you've edited other pages, but that's not indicated by your edit history(this is the only edit attached to your account); perhaps you did so while logged out. Your account needs to be four days old with 10 edits or more(on this Wikipedia) to be able to directly create articles- but its highly recommended that unless you have experience having articles accepted here, that you use the submission process even if you are technically able to create articles. 331dot (talk) 10:00, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Carinaharon1.
- I will go further than 331dot. The Hebrew article is useless as a base for an English article, because it does not have a single source which English Wikipedia would find acceptable. (See WP:42).
- Therefore this task would be writing an English article from scratch, which is extremely hard for new editors of English Wikipedia. ColinFine (talk) 15:21, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Carinaharon1 When you say you have an existing Hebrew Wikipedia page, do you mean you created it or it's about you (WP:COI)? Nevertheless, I don't know why you can't create an English version. If you have permission to write on the Help Desk, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to. Others have told you how. But since you haven't explained what you tried to do (and I wouldn't understand anyway), we wouldn't be able to tell you where you may have gone wrong. On English Wikipedia, if you want to create a page in another language, there's an "Add languages" button in the top right corner (so maybe on the top left corner on Hebrew Wikipedia). I just discovered the other day that we have a Wikipedia Embassy, so my advice would be to seek the help of the Hebrew attaché. MmeMaigret (talk) 05:31, 12 October 2025 (UTC)

Frankly, I give a damn.
In Fred Buckley's external link, it displays his name as Frank, but the website explicitly says that's wrong. I don't see any Frank in the article, so where is it getting it? Clarityfiend (talk) 21:54, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Clarityfiend: The Wikidata item Frank Buckley (Q43378441). PrimeHunter (talk) 22:18, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, then how does one go about fixing the Wikidata entry? Clarityfiend (talk) 22:21, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Clarityfiend: Wikidata already says also known as Fred Buckley. One of their sources says Frank so it may be controversial to change Wikidata. You can say
in the article to override the Wikidata name. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:38, 16 October 2025 (UTC)- Done. Thanks. Clarityfiend (talk) 10:35, 18 October 2025 (UTC)

HOW DO I CREATE A PAGE FOR MYSELF AND MY INFORMATION 69.181.129.143 (talk) 04:22, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
- You don't. There is no such thing as 'a page for myself' on Wikipedia. We have articles on notable subjects, based around what independent reliable sources have to say about them, editable by contributors in general. In the case of biographies, the subject him/herself is actively discouraged from editing: See also Wikipedia:Autobiography. AndyTheGrump (talk) 04:30, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
doc title Italic
I noticed that the title of this document is in italics. Why is it like that? Domoso55 (talk) 04:24, 19 October 2025 (UTC)

italic title = {<noinclude>no</noinclude>}Domoso55 (talk) 04:38, 19 October 2025 (UTC)- @Domoso55: Yes, many infoboxes automatically add italics to the title unless they get a parameter like
