Wikipedia:Naming conventions (UK Parliament constituencies)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
United Kingdom Parliamentary constituencies (current or defunct) should have a uniform suffix of "(UK Parliament constituency)" or "(Scottish Parliament constituency)" as appropriate, when this is required for disambiguation. A redirect or disambiguation page entry/hatnote must always be made from or to the base name.
| This former Wikipedia guideline, no longer backed by community consensus, is retained for historical reference. See the closed RfCs on the matter here (decision not to disambiguate unless necessary) and here (decision to use "constituency" rather than "UK Parliament constituency" as disambiguator where appropriate). |
Examples
- Leeds (UK Parliament constituency) (disambiguation necessary, entry in Leeds (disambiguation))
- Leeds North West (disambiguation not otherwise required, redirect from Leeds North West (UK Parliament constituency))
- North East Fife (Scottish Parliament constituency) (disambiguation necessary, entry in North East Fife disambiguation page)
- North East Fife (UK Parliament constituency) (disambiguation necessary, entry in North East Fife disambiguation page)
- Suffolk Coastal (UK Parliament constituency) (disambiguation necessary, hatnote at Suffolk Coastal article)
Historical
The requirement for disambiguation even when not needed was dropped in October 2025 and the guideline was updated, the guideline was retired in April 2026 when it was agreed to use "constituency" alone if there is only 1 constituency such as Clacton (constituency).
