Therefore i am

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to Cogito, ergo sum, and move Therefore I Am to Therefore I Am (band). This late option proved popular. --BDD (talk) 14:22, 28 August 2026 (UTC)

Don't see any indication that the title in lowercase should refer to something other than the base page at Therefore I Am. ScalarFactor (talk) 17:09, 21 July 2026 (UTC)

  • I think Billie Eilish has a tendency to give titles in all lowercase, so I think that explains it. But I don't see anything on the song article to specifically support that in this case. I'm more open to invoking WP:DIFFCAPS here since "I" is typically capitalized. --BDD (talk) 18:27, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
  • 'Retarget to Therefore I Am per nom Duckmather (talk) 18:44, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Move Therefore I Am to Therefore I Am (band); then, move Therefore I Am (song) to to Therefore I Am. Finally, retarget Therefore i am to where the song then resides—essentially a keep in spirit but at a different title (also shift the hatnote at currently at the band to the song). The song seems to be the clear primary topic, though I am open to hearing arguments regarding recentism or to consideration of non-digitized sources. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 09:04, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment I've created Therefore I Am (disambiguation) because I think there's just enough material for it. It's currently an orphan, but whatever ends up at the base name probably deserves an {{other uses}} hatnote linking to it. Certes (talk) 16:16, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
...alternatively, if no clear primary topic is seen, the new dab could be moved to the base name with the usual minor updates. Certes (talk) 18:05, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
My [second] preference is the song as the primary topic (as above), but my [third] preference is the dab at the base page name (no primary topic). — Godsy (TALKCONT) 22:32, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Move per Godsy. The band is clearly not a primary topic. The song gets ten times more page views than the other meanings combined, and it's hard to argue that a defunct band is more encyclopedic or long-term than a song. Usurping a title is a bold move, so putting the dab at the base name would be an acceptable compromise. Retarget Therefore i amTherefore i am to Therefore I Am, whatever ends up there. Certes (talk) 11:15, 27 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Retarget to Cogito, ergo sum. The other names derive from that use. Add a hatnote there to Therefore I Am (disambiguation). -- Tavix (talk) 15:07, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
I strongly support this—did not raise the idea before because I was attempting not to give potentially undue preference to my primary field of study. However, more than happy to get behind the notion now that it has arisen independent of me. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 06:59, 9 August 2026 (UTC)
  • Retarget to Cogito, ergo sum. Move Therefore I Am to Therefore I Am (band); then, redirect Therefore I AmTherefore I Am to Cogito, ergo sum (and hatnote as per Tavix). Retooled !vote per my comment above. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 07:24, 9 August 2026 (UTC)

Odd clipping of the title. Jruderman (talk) 01:07, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

  • Weak keep this is odd indeed, but I'm not sure there is actually any benefit to deletion. Every google hit for "correlation does not" is referring to the topic either with the article's exact title or something very similar (e.g. "correlation does not mean causation", "correlation does not equal causation", "correlation does not prove causality", etc) so nobody is getting mislead and it does get uses (18 last year for example). That almost all those users are likely to be picking it from the search dropdown and would have picked the full title instead if the redirect wasn't in place is irrelevant - they get to the exact same article in the exact same number of clicks with no time penalty, so there is no cost to going via the redirect and no benefit to not going via the redirect. The redirect has been vandalised exactly zero times and resulted in exactly zero maintenance burden in its 19 years of existence prior to this RfD, so deletion won't save on that either. Thryduulf (talk) 10:19, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
  • I guess this is more plausible than Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2022 July 10#Filipinotowns in, but not sure how common redirects from arbitrarily clipped phrases like these are. 1234qwer1234qwer4 23:59, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
I don't see a ton of these but I think the standards for keeping would include:
    1. Unambiguously refers to the target
    2. Is a common or plausible shortening
I'd say (1) is more important and is likely satisfied here. (2) is not satisfied in my view. Even if we are in agreement that this is the only widespread usage, it is not natural to abbreviate the phrase like this. —Myceteae‍🍄‍🟫 (talk) 20:50, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
I generally agree that those are useful criteria but I would frame them not as requirements for keeping but rather redirects should be deleted (or possibly retargetted) if neither are met. We should only delete redirects if they are harmful in some way, and I've been able to find any evidence of harm here. Thryduulf (talk) 21:28, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

  • Delete. Reminds me of the result at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2026 June 24#Color of": Unclear/unlikely search term as a partial phrase, regardless of the level of ambiguity. Steel1943 (talk) 16:56, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
I do see these two as very distinct, "Color of" is highly ambiguous while "Correlation does not" is essentially unambiguous. The difference is so stark that deleting both because one was deleted, or keeping both because one was kept is completely inappropriate. It's possible the same outcome should apply to both, but if so only because they should both be kept or deleted on their own merits. Thryduulf (talk) 10:08, 19 July 2026 (UTC)

  • delete. judging by views and results, this isn't a plausible shortening of the term or error in writing or linking it. while it's technically ambiguous with different variations of the target's title (and thus not ambiguous in a way that matters), the use cases seem way too implausible to actually warrant this redirect, and in the cases of searches and links, search results will have people covered anyway, so it ain't our beeswax. i also believe in the average person's ability to finish their consarn (talk beige) (count ribs) 21:01, 11 August 2026 (UTC)

Han Jin Di

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was no consensus. Rusalkii (talk) 06:08, 24 August 2026 (UTC)

If you take this person's actual title ("漢景帝") and romanize it using pinyin, you get "Hànjǐngdì". If you remove the accents, capitalize each syllable, and separate each syllable with a space, then you get "Han Jing Di" (emphasis added), making this redirect an implausible misspelling. Additionally, the one potentially-relevant google search result for this term is this 2018 forum post, which supposedly quotes our Wagon fort article, but neither this person nor this misspelling are mentioned at either the current version nor the version of the article that existed back then, so I think the quotes from the post are made up; the other google search results are pretty scattered. So I suggest deletion. Duckmather (talk) 23:58, 24 July 2026 (UTC)

should probably be retargeted back to chinese given name where it's actually mentioned, but it's a good idea to make consensus a little more concrete than not at all consarn (talk beige) (count ribs) 19:22, 21 July 2026 (UTC)

  • In Chinese, does it mean "Chinese given name" or "given name"? Jruderman (talk) 01:18, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
relevant to this, "name" or "given name". other uses are pretty similar to other uses of the english word "name", but those are besides the point, and those two definitions are by far the primary topic anyway consarn (talk beige) (count ribs) 01:58, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
It just means "given name"。 Do we have precedent for the sort of redirect proposed? In solidarity, Aaron Liu (talk) 22:30, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Note that the exact same character also means "given name" in Japanese, see Japanese name#Given names. Fork99 (talk) 02:57, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete per WP:RFOREIGN.--Srleffler (talk) 04:04, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
RFROREIGN says that a redirect should be deleted if it points to an article not directly related to the language it's written in or a culture associated with that language. If we consider "名" a Chinese redirect then Chinese given name is directly related to Chinese, if we instead consider it a Japanese redirect then Japanese name#Given names is directly related to Japanese. Can you explain why RFOREIGN justifies deletion over retargeting in this case? Warudo (talk) 12:25, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
The fact that the same symbol could plausibly redirect to two different articles depending on which language you assume it is in is a great example of one of the reasons why the guideline I linked above forbids redirecting foreign words.
Beyond that, from the discussion above it seems this symbol does not mean "Chinese given name" nor "Japanese given name" but rather simply "given name". It is therefore not describing a concept that is unique to either language. The proper solution is to not redirect this symbol at all. --Srleffler (talk) 01:18, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
It is therefore not describing a concept that is unique to either language. Previous consensus indicates that this is irrelevant. A foreign redirect does not need to describe a concept uniquely connected to its language so long as its target is connected to its language. For example, 氮氮 which means 'nitrogen' in Chinese and is therefore not unique to Chinese at all was not deleted at RfD and was instead retargeted to Chemical elements in East Asian languages. FORRED (an explanatory essay, not a guideline) does not say that the topic a foreign redirect describes needs to have affinity to its language, it only says that its target needs to. FORRED does not [forbid] redirecting foreign words either.
As for the other problem you brought up, that can easily be solved by a hatnote which is a pretty cheap solution. Warudo (talk) 23:21, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
FORRED is explict that if a word can mean different things in different foreign languages and means nothing in English, then "none would be appropriate as a redirect target". The example you cite doesn't establish that this is irrelevant, only that there are exceptions to the general rule. 氮 is an interesting special case; nothing more.
You're right that FORRED isn't a guideline, but WP:R#DELETE is. FORRED is an explanatory essay on item #8 in the guideline.--Srleffler (talk) 02:04, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
Exactly. FORRED says that we shouldn't make redirects from non-English terms when false friends (words that mean different things in different languages) are an issue. How are false friends an issue here? In what language does "名" have a completely different meaning from 'name'? Warudo (talk) 12:54, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
If you assert that "名" has the same meaning in Chinese and Japanese, then that meaning is just "name". Not Chinese given name. Not Japanese given name. Not "East Asian given name". Just name. None of the redirect targets that have been proposed are appropriate in that case.--Srleffler (talk) 15:35, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
+1 Targeting a specific topic like Chinese name, Japanese name, or East Asian name is too narrow to the point of being misleading. It would imply that ⟨名⟩ does not have a more general meaning equivalent to 'name' or 'given name' and is only used for names with a particular linguistic or cultural origin. —Myceteae‍🍄‍🟫 (talk) 16:41, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
Seeing how as above it could be both Chinese and Japanese, I propose refine to Given name#East Asia. Anywaydun (talk) 06:02, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
Oops, I seem to have meant retarget, as the current target is Name, not Given name. Anywaydun (talk) 06:05, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete. As consarn states, ⟨名⟩ means 'name' and corresponds to many different uses of the word in English, e.g. title ('name') of a book. It is also used in a number of other compounds and idiomatic expressions See wikt:名. It does not specifically mean Japanese name or Chinese name or East Asian name. For example, the Chinese Wikipedia article for English name is zh:英語人名. Targeting to any specific type of name is inaccurate. This fails WP:FORRED for Name and Given name. Just about every culture and language has a concept for name; there is no 'special affinity' for Chinese or any other language. —Myceteae‍🍄‍🟫 (talk) 17:11, 23 July 2026 (UTC)

I was going to suggest Non-alcoholic drink#Non-alcoholic mixed drinks as a target, but I think there's a clear problem with that in its current form... – Ike Lek (talk) 19:01, 31 July 2026 (UTC)

I would like this to be deleted because it is an extremely unlikely search term, and by the logic of these redirects, we would need to have thousands of redirects for thousands of different albums. Moonliner72 (talk) 20:41, 31 July 2026 (UTC)

  • Delete both since neither are likely search terms, especially when the album's actual title has already been known for years. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 21:27, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete Third studio album (the killers) as that is an implausible search term. Keep The Killers' third studio album as that's exactly the sort of string someone who can't remember the name of it would use to find the article, and it's correct, unambiguous and harmless. We don't need to create redirects of this format for all possible examples, but if they are created there is no benefit to deletion. Thryduulf (talk) 12:32, 2 August 2026 (UTC)

Unable to find any sources referring to Romano as the "TikTok School shooter", term could also refer to the perpetrator of the 2024 Perry High School shooting. मल्ल (talk) 19:06, 2 August 2026 (UTC)

Disambiguate. Jon Romano got popular on TikTok in 2023, so he is a school shooter on TikTok. Articles about him from 2023 are the first results I get when searching for "TikTok school shooter": The Guardian, Business Insider. Arguably, both of these could be called TikTok school shooters. The capitalization is a bit weird, though. ArcticSeeress (talk) 12:31, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

The page it's targeted at is divisions in Albania in general, but the first level divisions of Albania are the Counties of Albania. 𝓕𝓵𝓸𝓫𝓵𝓲𝓷 (Talk to me! · My contribs) 21:01, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

  • Weak keep. The redirect targets the section of the administrative divisions article that explains that counties are the first level division and prominently links to the Counties of Albania article. That article also notes this, so both are entirely reasonable targets. My preference for keeping is that the current target presents them in the context of other levels and it's much easier to get from the current target to the counties article than to do the reverse. As noted though this preference is weak and retargetting would be my second choice. Thryduulf (talk) 12:55, 5 August 2026 (UTC)

All of these redirects were converted from articles to redirects following the result of the January 2008 AfD discussion Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jim Anchower. However, none of these are mentioned at the target and thus they are confusing to the reader. Unless mentions are added to the article, these should all be deleted. Not useful for navigation. There is no occurrence of Sarwa in the target article, only of words containing that as a part, such as Basarwa. Recommend deletion.

The history of the editor who created this redirect shows that they have done nothing for at least the past year except the creation of redirects. I have not checked whether any of these redirects are useful, although I know that this one is not. I also know that RFD is a content forum. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:56, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

The romantic novel, the comics character, most of the songs and albums, the "multimedia narrative", the travel management company, the TV series and the Cities: Skylines expansion pack. It's not a correct capitalisation for any of the, but it is plausible that any or all of them could be titled that way and so plausible that people will search for them in that way. Thryduulf (talk) 15:47, 10 August 2026 (UTC)

Searching this name on google reveals that there is at least one person named "Candance Vogel". This is almost certainly distinct from the subject of the redirect target (Candace Vogler); if you search for both this redirect title and the surname "Vogler", you get zero results.
