    True, but moving a page is a reasonable outcome here. The nom identified a problematic redirect and suggested two fixes—retargeting (a common RFD outcome) and a page move. Delete per WP:RETURNTORED, none of the state articles feature any sort of listing of their state agencies, a reader coming to Wikipedia to look for such a list would most likely not be satisfied but rather confused with the article about the state.   • Delete I agree it would be useful for these to be red links where no list article exists. These list articles are a useful starting point for including US states in WikiProject GovDirectory. The project would like to encourage the creation and maintenance of these lists.
@RadioKAOS I appreciate learning about those lists on the Outline page. Those Outline pages could be a good starting point to get basic list pages in place for all states.
In sum, I favor a solution that promotes creation and maintenance of list articles for state agencies, and I think leaving them as red links would do that. JMMaok (talk) 16:15, 22 January 2026 (UTC)

Redirects should not send readers on a wild goose chase to hunt for bits and pieces of information. Crème diplomat is described in various sources as a mixture of pastry cream (a type of custard) with whipped cream and/or gelatin.   • I'm leaning delete. My top Google hits are dominated by Google Shopping results for air conditioners, evaporative coolers, and similar items to cool the home but none of these seem to use the exact phrase "cold air machine". Scrolling down the page a bit I found things like this for skin numbing devices that do use the phrase. I'm inclined to delete this unmentioned redirect but there may be a better option. Many sources describe this as synonymous with crème anglaise, a type of custard mentioned in the lead of Custard. External search also reveals many sources that describe a German variation called Vanillesoße. Internal search reveals that vanilla sauce is mentioned in number of articles about German sweets and the redirect link is used in four articles about German food, including German cuisine. —Myceteae‍🍄‍🟫 (talk) 18:41, 21 January 2026 (UTC)

Misleading redirect name when the target page isn't actually part of the Manual of Style, contrary to what the "MOS:" prefix implies, nor should anybody treat it as such. This is best deleted unless somebody creates an actual MOS page for albums, which it could appropriately be retargeted towards, but I can't plausibly imagine that being created and maintained anytime in the foreseeable future. Whether it is technically part of the manual of style is not relevant, what is relevant is that people using this shortcut will be taken to the page giving style advice regarding albums, which is the only thing they are plausibly going to be looking for. If it is somehow important that people know it isn't technically part of the manual of style and the name of the page is not enough to inform them of that then a note saying that.   • It actually is quite relevant since we shouldn't give people a false impression that such a link will lead to the MOS instead of an informal essay that was never officially a policy or even a guideline. You might not care how deceptive this targeting is, but either way there already is a "WP:ALBUMSTYLE" shortcut redirect for the page we can maintain that is more suitable.     I would refrain from such strong language here, but I will tentatively agree that a MOS redirect to project namespace is almost certainly unlikely to be helpful (on the other hand, a WP-prefixed redirect to the MoS can be quite helpful indeed).     You might not care how deceptive this targeting is, the issue is that I don't agree that this is deceptive at all.   • Using the "WP:" prefix wouldn't be so bad since they go to lots of pages both within MOS range and outside of it, but let's not sugarcoat how using "MOS:" gives the wrong idea about where the shortcut currently points to. There's no good reason to pretend it isn't a deceptive setup. Your comment also distorts what the Anonymous user was saying and ignores how in reality the user doesn't find it likely that pointing such a prefix to non-MOS targets would be helpful. I'm not pretending or sugar-coating anything: there is nothing deceptive about a shortcut stating there is style advice about albums at the target pointing to a page that gives style advice about albums. I'm also not intentionally distorting anything about what anybody is saying, I'm just pointing out that the rationale they are using to support their view is incorrect. We therefore should save such uses exclusively for that, and not for essays or other non-MOS pages. Anonymous was actually suggesting that sections of MOS containing "WP:" prefixes in their shortcuts is a common practice, not the other way around. Don't keep glossing over these facts by treating such a target with false implications as truthful or not a problem. The bit about it pointing to an album-related page is irrelevant and downplays the prefix issue.   • I never suggested it was holy per se, but the fact that you don't find the prefix implications relevant (even when you should) proves me right in suspecting you flat out don't care how the shortcut gives the wrong idea about where the redirect goes. An essay doesn't constitute official advice in the way an actual policy or guideline would. To be frank, I see no good reason to keep enabling misuses of the "MOS:" prefix.   • Comment: The history reveals that the target has changed multiple times since its creation. A 2011 RfD resulted in retargeting to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (music) but less than a year later this was unilaterally changed to the then-new advice page, the current target. I think it's a problem when MOS: short cuts don't actually point to the MOS but the problem is widespread and a similar issue exists where WP: prefixes can be interpreted as P&G when they in fact point to user essays or WikiProject advice pages. The target has been stable for >10 years and this shortcut is linked in >400 discussions so I am hesitant to change it. —Myceteae‍🍄‍🟫 (talk) 16:48, 21 January 2026 (UTC)

Probably best to RETURNTORED. I actually ended up here after searching the title and was rather disappointed to end up at just the sponge article. There's some history here but it's... questionable, to say the least. I don't think anything of value would be lost by deleting it, and it would make the need for a potential article more obvious for anyone stopping by. — Anonymous 02:32, 21 January 2026 (UTC)

While there are some scattered mentions of freshwater sponges throughout the sponge article, there's no section that gives them the kind of focused coverage that would make for a truly useful redirect target, in my opinion. I also agree with the nom's characterization of the redirect's page history; the topic was in mainspace for just three hours in 2011 before being BLARed, and it comprised just one unsourced and poorly copyedited paragraph. Ultimately, I agree with the assessment that the scattered coverage seems inadequate. The nom's experience is likely typical. Readers expect dedicated coverage and not to have to hunt for disconnected tidbits when they reach a redirect, especially for a reasonably familiar term like freshwater sponge.
