Suspected sockpuppets

Raxythecat (talk · contribs) was blocked for harassing edits on Chaos magic, similar to this edit by this IP. The IP editor continues making harassing edits by following me to other articles and adding egregious citation requests . Skyerise (talk) 05:03, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

Here's another harassing edit . Skyerise (talk) 05:23, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

Skeyrides (talk · contribs) starts editing immediately after the IP is blocked. Skyerise (talk) 06:02, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

And the account was created half an hour after Raxythecat was blocked. Skyerise (talk) 06:17, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

User appears to be a sysadmin with access to an entire /8 network, 107.xxx.xxx.xxx. It's easy enough to follow their trail.

. Skyerise (talk) 02:43, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

Added another sock ip 2600:387:f:4a14::4 (talk · contribs · IP contribs · WHOIS), who has been making reverts of my edits only intended to harass, was well as vandalizing article, for example, this edit, which appears to refer to this SPI report, and restoring the prod template on Playback (technique), originally placed there by IPsock 107.116.7.105. Skyerise (talk) 12:22, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

And yet another one, 107.116.7.5 (talk · contribs · IP contribs · WHOIS), redoing edits which were reverted by BilCat after the previous IPv6 was block. Isn't it about time to report this guy to his Internet provider? Skyerise (talk) 12:31, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

And yet another, 107.116.7.92 (talk · contribs · IP contribs · WHOIS), restoring an edit placed by both 2600:387:f:4a14::4 and 107.116.7.5. Skyerise (talk) 15:51, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

Back again. Still making disruptive edits to Chaos magic and related topics. This time Illuminates of Thanateros, Peter J. Carroll, Lionel Snell, and Ralph Tegtmeier. Uses same language in edit summaries as previous socks. Intent continues to be to harass me by disrupting articles on my watchlist. Per WP:DUCK. Skyerise (talk) 19:01, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

This trail in particular on Lionel Snell is telling. Always removing the same material: 2600:387:F:4A14:0:0:0:4, 257.122.14,1O, Numbers and periods that look like an ip address. Skyerise (talk) 20:38, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

Brand new user's (Oct 19) first two article edits are to two of the articles repeatedly targetted by our puppetmaster, Chaos magic (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) and Sigil (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views). New user uses similar edit summaries, "more content", "added content", to add uncited material intended to deprecate the subject of the article or lessen their achievements. Then of course there is the username they chose. Sure to be somebody's sock. Ought to be checkusered. Skyerise (talk) 16:44, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Suspected sockpuppets

This all started while I was patrolling the user creation log (as I usually do) just a little bit ago. I noticed that an account was created with the username I'm not here to build a wiki. Looking at their contributions, I saw that they added vandalism to the Jim Bob Duggar article. I blocked the user per obvious WP:NOTHERE and moved on. However, shortly afterwards and while continuing to patrol the user creation log, I noticed that an account was created with the username I'm here to build a wiki, and saw that they also added vandalism to the same article. I checked the article history and noticed the same pattern with numerous accounts. After running a series of checks with the checkuser tool, I was able to locate and link the following accounts listed above and to the blocked sock master. They all edit through the same (wide) IP range and with the same user agent. I'm creating this SPI retroactively for record-keeping and accountability purposes. These accounts will be confirmed and tagged. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:23, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

Connecting dots here. Articles Gnosis (chaos magic), Kia (magic), and Sigil were targets of Raxythecat. The IP listed above edited the first two articles and also vandalized Tony Perkins (politician) (). Josiedubia (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) started with the third (Sigil), and then went on to vandalize Tony Perkins (politician). Although this user has not been blocked, next to appear is Improved sock skills (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log), whose name follows the pattern of Raxythecat. This user also vandalizes Tony Perkins the same day as Josiedubia. Improved sock skills also posted this on their talk page:

From now on, I will change my user agent to make it harder to tie my socks together. Check the UA I chose for this account. I will age accounts two days so those patrolling new users won't see the edits immediately. I am also going to change the email provider to a list of popular providers. I will widen my circle of targets significantly. Thanks again

So I am requesting checkuser to determine if these are additional socks of Raxythecat, so that Josiedubia can be blocked and both tagged. Pretty sure they are Raxythecat. Skyerise (talk) 18:22, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

Tally Indue's first edit is to add "Superstition" to the see also section of sigil, which a number of previous socks have done. TI then goes on to remove the category Category:German male non-fiction writers from Ralph Tegtmeier, one of Raxythecat's favorite targets, on the "basis" that occultism is fiction, commenting that the author "writes fantasy books for fantasy fans". Again, this same edit has been made by one or two previous sockpuppets. Then Jesse Adze makes this edit , changing "occultist" to "fantasy author". Looks like Raxythecat to me. Um, no. I haven’t edited that article AT ALL until today, when you started harassing me. I have been a user in good standing for years and I couldn’t care less about this. Your accusations are baseless. Dronebogus (talk) 00:24, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

The offending sock master first edited in 2021 as a clear SPA. I have been around since 2020: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions/Dronebogus&target=Dronebogus&dir=prev not counting IP edits and have made thousands of edits across dozens of articles. Does that sound like a sock to you? Dronebogus (talk) 00:38, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
The offending sockmaster edited as a dynamic IP address for years before getting pinned to a username. They always target Chaos magic. They always tag bomb it with undeserved tags, among other things. You're really looking like a WP:DUCK here. Have I really finally found your non-throwaway account?! Skyerise (talk) 00:42, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
The only similarity is the fact that we made a few similar edits to one page. Have you never heard of a coincidence? Dronebogus (talk) 00:48, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
I feel you. It must suck getting caught. But it's not your edits that identify you. It's your attitude. That's why I waited to see what you would say when you inevitably reverted me before filing the report. Skyerise (talk) 00:54, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
“My attitude” is not hard evidence. At all. You’re sounding about as convincing as the House Un-American Activities Committee grilling a KNOWN COMMUNIST. Dronebogus (talk) 00:57, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
File:Dr._Strangelove_-_Riding_the_Bomb.png Skyerise (talk) 01:01, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
Maybe it’s your attitude of paranoid page ownership that makes people hostile. Dronebogus (talk) 00:58, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
If you're not a sock, you just have to wait, you know. Maybe it's your two and half years of harassing me that make you easy to recognize. Skyerise (talk) 01:05, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

Skyerise, stop harassing Dronebogus and blanket reverting good edits. A boomerang is called for to stop you. Your long block log needs more entries. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 01:03, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

@Valjean:: I am following the correct processes in the correct places. And I haven't reverted or interacted with them anywhere but here since I opened it. Since when is that bad behavior? I'm not harassing anyone, I am replying here and that's it. Skyerise (talk) 01:05, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
No you’re not you literally just canvassed someone else I was arguing with to harass me. You are the one who is fooling nobody. Dronebogus (talk) 01:11, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
As I said, if you're not a sock, you're not in trouble. The checkusers will sort it out. They always do. If I'm wrong, apologies. There's nothing wrong with having more eyes on an article. Skyerise (talk) 01:15, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

Other similar edits and summaries include and from this new sock, which are similar to , , , and . Requesting a CU given their propensity for creating socks in case there are other sleeper socks out there. FyzixFighter (talk) 12:25, 7 November 2024 (UTC)

This latest potential sock seems to be focused in the same LDS-centric type of edits. These edit summaries (,) are similar to previous sock edit summaries (,,). Also, how the user references wikipedia-space pages here , is similar to how previous socks have referenced such pages (see ,,). Requesting CU given the prolific habit of the master for creating socks. FyzixFighter (talk) 14:15, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

Same editing pattern and area of interest as previous socks. For example, challenging lineage charts in BoM articles (, , and . Most of the edits by this new sockpuppet are to pages edited by previous socks (the three exceptions still fall within the LDS-related area). I'm not sure what's going on with the Ge'ez script user name, but they've used apparently random strings before ("-j..z!..m%%%x?" for example) for user names. CU request to see if there are other sleepers, given their history. FyzixFighter (talk) 20:56, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

This one showed up right after the last sock (Butter made from smashed nuts) got blocked. So far they follow a similar LDS-centric editing pattern with drive-by tagging (, ) as previous socks. User name is riff on an LDS-related name or topic, similar to other previous socks (eg Big Ballin Oaks). Also this edit at Ipotane is similar to previous disruption such as by previous socks. Requesting CU just in case there are more sleepers. FyzixFighter (talk) 02:09, 4 February 2025 (UTC)

Similar name to last identified sock and similar LDS-centric edits, although the types of edits range from pro-LDS (, ) to contra-LDS (, ). Previous socks have also presented exaggerated pro-LDS behavior (,), and have engaged in drive-by tagging of LDS articles (,,). CU requested in case there are any sleepers. Thematically similar usernames (see history at Talk:Shivaji, same sort of trolling/POV-pushing. Aurangzeb the Hero could probably be blocked for trolling and per DUCK, but I imagine there is an older master at work here, and perhaps a sleeper check is worthwhile. Previous socks have an established pattern of tagging and nominating obscure Book of Mormon related articles for deletion. See, for example, the edit history of Big Money Threepwood (talk · contribs), the most prolific recent sock I'm familiar with. A couple samples: In addition to making lots of AfDs, Threepwood brought religious and Mormon-related subjects to WP:Fringe theroies/Noticeboard.

The 166 IP jumped straight into the same pattern:

The 74 IP is linked to the 166 IP in this edit: . ~Awilley (talk) 03:39, 19 August 2025 (UTC)

I need help. For over a month many different IP editors have been editing Exact Audio Copy article. Initially, I got a little upset at what was happening and suspected that it was a cordinated group of editors, later I started to wonder if it may be one actual person? It smells fishy, but I don't know what to do about it, which is why I came here. I put a watch on this page. If you have more questions, or need more from me, please leave the question here directed at my account name, then I'll reply here. Thanks in advance. • SbmeirowTalk • 06:59, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

I agree with User:sbmeirow that the recent temporary contributors to Exact Audio Copy are very likely all one person, and that User:Johnny Joeson is probably also the same person. Their edits are similar, and they word things in a similar way. For example, see this edit, which is very similar to many previous edits by temporary accounts on the same page. It is worth noting that User:Johnny Joeson has strongly implied they are not the same person as at least one of the temporary contributors; see this edit "I agree with the TA" (I assume TA means topic author, who was a temp editor).

  • Hi, could the 5 users I included in the collapsed portion of my comment be looked into? I note that the last one has already been blocked as part of this investigation, while the second to last appears very close in the edit history of Audion (software) to User:Johnny Joeson. •  Additional information needed – This is an incredibly confusing list of many TAs, many of which are clearly unrelated. I'm not, and I do not expect anyone else to either, digging through all of this to remove the random additions. @Sbmeirow:, please remove the TAs that are not the ones from the exact audio article and ping me, and I will look at this then. • So, this is definitely one person, but it's not against the rules to use multiple temporary accounts. I believe this one editor was editing from a number of locations (i.e. work, home, school) or similar as they cycled through a few IP ranges that are all close enough together it is still clearly one user. What is more problematic is then creating an account and pretending the previous TA comments were not them (despite carrying on the same covnersations as the TAs elsewhere in the talk page). I have left the account a note regarding this. Aside from that, no administrative action is needed here. CoconutOctopus talk 21:26, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
  • recycle Reopened as 9 of the 10 suspected temporary account sockpuppets in the first list, as well as Johnny Joeson, have been blocked as sockpuppets of Raxythecat (talk · contribs) in the 8 June 2026 SPI case. — Newslinger talk 10:30, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
    • ~2026-24692-91 and ~2026-24762-84 are sockpuppets of Raxythecat per TAIV evidence, per the findings of the 8 June 2026 case. — Newslinger talk 10:58, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
      • @CommonsKiwi: Oops, I'm sorry. That was incorrect, and I've struck my previous comment. Behavioral evidence and TAIV data do not associate ~2026-24692-91 or ~2026-24762-84 with Raxythecat, and they remain blocked for the reasons stated on their respective block summaries. — Newslinger talk 11:19, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Merged case from Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/~2026-25500-86 into Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Raxythecat. — Newslinger talk 10:35, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Blocked without tags ~2026-32290-05 per behavioral evidence. WP:TAIV data indicates VPN use. — Newslinger talk 10:49, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
  • no No action for any of the 18 temporary accounts in the "IP's that edited other articles around the same time period" section in Sbmeirow's initial comment, as the behavioral evidence and TAIV data do not support a sockpuppetry finding. — Newslinger talk 11:04, 9 June 2026 (UTC)

I hardly ever participate at SPU so don't know the standards but feel despite this falling into duck, it might still be ripe for CU to rule out a joe job. Not that I think any of us care that much if FJLGreen is wrongly blocked over it, but cases which gain a lot of attention on ANI seem to be ones where we get idiots doing stuff like that. [in response to Izno's note that they didn't check FJL; moved here ~ToBeFree] I think, probably, we should have a look at FJL, to confirm that this is indeed a joe job. -- Least Action (talk) 05:42, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
Then what we should do? -- Least Action (talk) 06:11, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
If they've found who's operating the sockpuppet then they'll deal with them accordingly.
Every check against an editor has to be for legitimate reasons & only if there's strong evidence to justify it. If the evidence leads them elsewhere (so to a different person), that's where they have to go. In solidarity, Blue-Sonnet (I'm listening) 06:35, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
