Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2026 April 11

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more templates or modules. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the template's talk page or in a deletion review).

The result of the discussion was delete. I see no issue with recreating this as a redirect to a related template, but with no discussion regarding that part of the nomination I will leave it to someone else to do so if they deem it necessary. Primefac (talk) 13:32, 19 April 2026 (UTC)

• Template:Semi-protected (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

I don't see how this is helpful; clicking "edit" on a semi-protected page displays much more helpful information to editors who are affected by the protection. I believe the handful of uses should be removed, and then this template can be redirected to {{protection padlock}}. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 22:17, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

Delete (remove the complete section, do not subst). Awful template. What happens when the page is not semi-protected anymore yet this message is still there? The padlocks are what should be used. Gonnym (talk) 16:01, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

Delete as redundant to {{pp}}, which is a better template in many ways, including the system of scripts and bots that keep its transclusions up-to-date. jlwoodwa (talk) 17:17, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was soft delete. Based on minimal participation, this uncontroversial nomination is treated as an expired PROD (a.k.a. "soft deletion"). Editors can request the template's undeletion. Primefac (talk) 13:29, 19 April 2026 (UTC)

• Template:NBAbox (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Unused template. The current practice is to instead use multiple instances of {{Basketballbox}} (see 2026 NBA playoffs § First round for example). Zzyzx11 (talk) 18:55, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

• Template:Cmd (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

I'm not really sure I see the use for this template, we have a ton of different syntax highlighting templates already and this one only appears to be used in a single user sandbox (though I see no issue with letting them keep using it as a userspace template). • Template:Mni (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
• Template:Meitei (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
• Template:Manipuri (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
• Template:Mni-doc (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

The Manipuiri/Meitei lang templates were deleted following this TFD. This isn't quite a G4 though since these templates were created shortly before that nomination. However, they are still functionally identical and should be replaced per the TFD outcome. Nominating them here mainly because of their transclusion counts and the time discrepancy. Primefac (talk) 10:26, 11 April 2026 (UTC) Noting also the mni-doc being nominated mainly because it's the centralised doc for the three pages and would be orphaned/unused anyway if these are deleted. • Template:Villages depopulated during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

This seems to be a combination of Template:Palestinian Arab villages depopulated during the 1948 Palestinian exodus and Template:Jewish villages depopulated during the 1948 Palestine war, but isn't transcluded from those two templates. Rather, it is a separate hardcoded list. It would presumably be easier to maintain if this were turned into a transclusion of those two templates, or, since it's not used anywhere in mainspace, if it were deleted. Toadspike [Talk] 08:43, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

Delete. It looks like my total involvement was a redirect long ago in 2009.

Now that the other 2 templates exist separately, this template no longer serves a purpose. Its hard-coded list of villages is not as complete as the other 2 templates. --Timeshifter (talk) 15:16, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
