Template:Political violence

Creator was topic namespace banned for their approach to templates and categories. The vast majority of the articles in here have no strict relationship to political violence outside of terrorism, which we already have a footer template on, template:terrorism topics; what isn't in there are topics so broad they should not be here, or ones far more specific that to be comprehensive we would end up listing thousands of articles. This seems like it was just made to get around the stricter standards applied to the terrorism navbox - but lists mostly the same articles, and ones that have nothing to do with political violence, or individual acts. Poorly suited to a navbox, redundant to terrorism one. PARAKANYAA (talk) 03:38, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

Delete. Since their block from template space was 11 days after this template's creation, I would support its deletion, regardless of any usage. Gonnym (talk) 08:58, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
Support per nom. most of the links direct to terrorism not political violence SMasonGarrison 14:05, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
Keep: Less than 10% of the links on the nominated template are also on {{terrorism topics}}. The nominated template links a small number of terrorism pages as the most condemned form of political violence within each theme.
Many of the links are to pages with titles that contain "political violence" and not "terrorism" (Kurdish, Palestinian, 1980s Bulgaria, Finland (1918–1932), Germany (1918–1933), United States, Washington, D.C. and many others). Some places have separate pages. e.g. This template links Political violence in Chile and {{terrorism topics}} links Terrorism in Chile. There are also several pages about election violence, which is rarely called terrorism.
This template does not "get around" the strictness of how the word "terrorism" is used, it follows those rules. The broader term political violence can be used on terrorism pages but not the other way around. So sub-topics such as nationalist or separatist violence are more appropriately presented on a political violence navbox, because they can be presented more comprehensively without some key pages being excluded by MOS:TERRORISM. The vast majority of inclusions are not like that, they are revolutions (a whole section...) individual nationalisms (why is Croatian nationalism, or any nationalism, here?) and incidents and articles already in the terror navbox, or which have terrorism in the titles. Cut down the extraneous ones and there is almost nothing. PARAKANYAA (talk) 20:07, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
