• Template:Lua (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

When this was created, I'm sure it served a wonderful purpose as few templates used Lua, but now over 13 years later, it would be hard to find a template that does not use Lua in some form. Continued use of this template has multiple problems. For one it is seldom maintained and more often than not incorrectly indicates that a specific template ONLY uses the few Lua modules listed. When it is kept up to date, it is redundant. All you have to do is look at the code and go to the section at the bottom that says "Pages transcluded onto the current version of this page:" to view all the modules in use by a given template. • Keep It serves its purpose of being a visible indicator on the readable documentation. You should not need to not only go into the edit view, but on top of that look into the list of transclusions.   @Jerodlycett: For the record, I 100% agree with your statement that A failure to properly use a template does not indicate a failure of usefulness. If this was a case of a few people not using it properly, I would not have mentioned that as a reason. However, I would argue that this template is unlikely to EVER be properly used and to properly document every Lua module being used. --Zackmann (^{Talk to me}/_{What I been doing}) 03:42, 24 July 2026 (UTC)

• Keep I don't know about others but I found it helpful. I can just go to a template or module and see what module or sub module it's using.

• Keep: The banner does not mean a template "only" uses the module(s) listed. The template itself uses more modules than just Module:Lua banner, but that is the main one and the only one listed at the template. The banner's usefulness is largely for navigation to where a considerable portion of the functionality of the template is in an associated module. ~ Jenson (SilverLocust 💬) 09:37, 24 July 2026 (UTC)

• Keep: It's very bold assumption that almost every template uses Lua at first place. When viewing any specific template, it's very useful to have this banner on documentation showing which module(s) is used or invoked in this specific template, sometime these modules like Navbar and arguments are listed using this banner which is very helpful.––KEmel49(📝,📋) 19:56, 24 July 2026 (UTC)

Going to withdraw as clearly there is SNOW opposition, but a few closing points....

@KEmel49: I think you would be hard pressed to find many templates that use NO modules of any kind in their code.

@SilverLocust and CapnZapp: my point is that these are never updated and there is a built-in functionality that is auto-updated showing exactly which modules are in use in a teamplte.

@Alex 21: I am withdrawing the nomination but not sure how a discussion (which is what TFD is, a discussion is detrimental to anything?
