{{Infobox winter storm small}} is exclusively used on the series of articles in Category:North American winters. There is no technical reason that these cannot all simply be replaced with instances of {{Infobox weather event}}, a far better documented template with far more capabilities. Oppose for several reasons, as a lot of the info and parameters from the weather event template aren’t needed in the winter storm small template. The latter was created as a simplified manner to list on the North American winter pages akin to hurricane seasons. So what if there are only 20 pages that use it? As winter storms are cyclones they are technically the same as compared to tornadoes which are a far more localized thing. Also right off the bat the “one design and code for all storm events” falls flat because Template:Infobox tropical cyclone small is integral to the hurricane season articles. For TCs the seasonal list of impacts at the bottom of the page takes care of the damage and death which means weather event does not need to be in hurricane season articles, and why the TC small template is necessary. The passing suggestion of needing to use weather event on those would run afoul given too much whitespace would result in the list of storms section. The same thing applies here too. @Jason Rees:, my understanding of the TFD process is that a new TFD is not needed and would actually be counterproductive. It would appear that there is consensus to merge Template:Infobox winter storm small & Template:Infobox tropical cyclone small so I would think that once this reaches 7 days it can be closed by an uninvolved party to reflect such consensus.

Given the age of the discussion at present it would not make sense to withdraw; as Izno says other opinions might be offered. Your analysis (on the whole) is correct, in that a TFM for merging {{A}} and {{B}} might sometimes result in {{C}} also being affected. Primefac (talk) 11:41, 25 May 2026 (UTC)

What I would do though is remove the main Infobox weather event from discussion and the merge notice on it, as it shows up on every page that uses it (and makes it look unflattering to look at - and is kind of misleading as well. Pretty much everyone seems to agree that the main weather event template isn’t going anywhere, so at the very least I would just put the notice in a noinclude so as to not visibly show it. MarioProtIV at this point I feel it is best to leave this as is. TFD protocols (as I understand them) prohibit hiding discussion notices. This is hours away from the 7 day period being up. I agree there appears to be clear consensus here but as we are both involved parties, closing or in any way tampering with the TFD process would be a bad idea. Give it a day and I'm sure that Primefac or Izno will come along and close this. As a side note, if either of them (or another admin) feel it is appropriate to remove the TFD notice from the template, I obviously don't object... I created this navbox along with the women's basketball and softball navboxes with the intention of creating articles for these sports at St. Edward's. I've since realized that these are unlikely to meet the notability requirement.

Personally, I feel like these articles could be a good resource given that there has been decent traffic on the St. Edward's Hilltoppers and St. Edward's Hilltoppers baseball articles since I improved/created them -- but that's neither here nor there. My apologies Gonnym, I was in the process of replacing {{Catholic saints}} with its daughter templates following this TFD split but the creator of the primary template did most of them while I was AFK so I just assumed they did all of them.
