Unused and pointless template - typing this template name is more work than just typing out the spaces. Moreover it's redundant to some of the templates that already exist in Category:Inline spacing templates. -- P 1 9 9 ✉ 18:41, 13 September 2026 (UTC)

- Template:2020s in history (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Massive navbox with less-to-none navigational usage. Vestrian24Bio 16:23, 13 September 2026 (UTC)
- It serves a significant navigational purpose when mapping the most notable historical events of each decade. You could just as easily argue the 2020s article should be deleted based on the reasoning presented.
- And if your problem is size, WP:BEFORE (
If proposing deletion, consider whether the article could be improved instead:
) applies. Alexandraaaacs1989 (talk) 16:35, 13 September 2026 (UTC) - And take a look at the broader project I'm working on at Draft:Contemporary history by decade. Would a page like this seriously be of no interest to Wikipedia:WikiProject Years? Alexandraaaacs1989 (talk) 16:38, 13 September 2026 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to be the one to say this, given the effort you're putting in, but those navigation boxes violate every point of WP:NAV-RELATED. Navigation boxes should provide navigation between related articles, and you are indiscriminately selecting a bunch of events that have nothing in common other than the decade in which they occurred, that specifically violates the third point of the guidelines that says "Navigation templates should only be created for subjects where every article related to the subject will be included because including an arbitrary selection of articles related to the template's subject can present a point of view or give the subjects of the select articles included undue weight." The navigation for events by decade is handled via categories, not navigation boxes. Ferclopedio (talk) 21:41, 13 September 2026 (UTC)
- Sure WP:NAV-RELATED says
Navigation templates should only be created for subjects where every article related to the subject will be included because including an arbitrary selection of articles related to the template's subject can present a point of view or give the subjects of the select articles included undue weight.
, but it also saysFor complex topics in science, technology, history, etc., a navigation box can provide a comprehensive introduction to a topic.
In this context, the navbox serves as a comprehensive introduction to the topic of 2020s history. If introductory navboxes are allowed (which by definition are not exhaustive), then which is it? The answer is that both principles apply on a case-by-case basis, because Wikipedia is WP:NOTBURO and WP:NAV-RELATED is an essay rather than a guideline or policy set in stone. Many people have worked on this navbox, and it existed like this before I arrived, which implies I am not the only one who things this kind of navbox could be useful. - And rather than asking me which criteria I use for including an article, you seem to instead have assumed that I am, quote,
indiscriminately selecting a bunch of events that have nothing in common other than the decade in which they occurred
. This is not a very charitable characterization. I include articles that were A) explicitly about an event that occurred in the 2020s or began prior to and continued into the 2020s; and B) the topic in the article must be notable from a historical perspective i.e. it must be a turning point in a country's history, must be an event that signals some sort of broader message (diplomatic or political), or it must be a topic that resulted in significant cultural contention. Mark Carney's Davos speech is a good example - it was significant because it signaled something greater - a shift in middle power alliances. If it was just any old speech by Trump it would not be included, but it has major geopolitical implications (which is arguably the primary focus of the "topics" sections). - So yes it's ambiguous what the thresholds actually are for including an article in the template when you start asking how notable an article needs to be to be included, but you have to make this decision in every sentence in every article you write on Wikipedia. This concern is nothing unique to templates (nor this template, compared with others) and disputes about article inclusion can be resolved on a case-by-case basis. Alexandraaaacs1989 (talk) 14:44, 14 September 2026 (UTC)
- Picking and choosing which specific articles to include in order to present a "comprehensive introduction" still violates WP:NAV-RELATED. The only way around that would be to limit the Navbox to just the items in the top purple box (i.e. ).
- --Ahecht (TALK

probably not a good idea
to interlink articles that are not explicitly connected by RS to the topic article. There is no conceivable scenario where the most significant events of the 2020s century would each be explicitly labeled by RS "one of the most significant events in the 2020s", meaning what you are asking me to is an unsurmountable barrier to the task of creating a navbox overview for a decade. Wiki is not a bureaucracy and I don't feel that the spirit of the essay is being violated, and even if it was, it is only an essay and our own discretion takes precedent in cases like these based on utility provided to the reader by the navbox in question. - Delete. NAV-RELATED may be an essay, but 1) it is often-cited here because of its sensisbility, and 2) we do also have a guideline on the point of how connected the topics in a navbox should be, at WP:NAVBOX. This navbox fails most of the 5 criteria established. Izno (talk) 04:56, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
- Comment Since there seems to be consensus for deletion the way the discussion is going, I'm wondering if there's any way we could split the navbox out into narrower navboxes and sidebars so we have a direction going forward. I'm happy to put in the work getting these set up. Maybe we could split many of these articles into the following after deleting this navbox:
- Template:Gen Z protests sidebar
- Template:Civil unrest in the 2020s navbox (and we'd do this by decade)
- Template:Autocratization in the 21st century navbox (or Third wave of autocratization could be the parent article if people aren't overly concerned about the use of this specific label requiring strong RS explicitly connecting it to the "third wave" for each article added)
- Template:Wars in the 21st century navbox (and we'd have one for each century, and for wars with tons of child articles like World War 2 or Gaza war we'd link the most important 3 or 4 articles using our discretion, like outline articles)
- Template:International relations in the 21st century navbox
- Is this cool with people? I'd like to make sure a lot of these events are connected. I don't really care if it's in the form of the current navbox or the new ones above - as long as it allows readers to string together these broader historical trends that have little connecting them in the way of navboxes or sidebars as things stand. Alexandraaaacs1989 (talk) 11:42, 17 September 2026 (UTC)
- This seems like a good idea. For the wars navbox, all wars should be mentioned. Linking outlines is a good idea. Looking at some outlines, like Outline of World War II and Outline of the Russo-Ukrainian war, I think no other pages would need to be linked. The outlines seem very in-depth. - Sebbog13 (talk) 01:51, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- Delete this NAVBOX might as well be its own page, which I guess it is (2020s in history). We are barely halfway through this decade and this navbox is only going to grow in size. Not remotely useful in its massive form. Worth noting that the creator has created multiple other related navboxes:
- These should ALL be deleted as they are each likely to see the same issue. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 05:01, 20 September 2026 (UTC)
