Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Actors and filmmakers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Actors and filmmakers. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Actors and filmmakers|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Actors and filmmakers. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
| All deletion discussions relating to filmmakers, directors and other non-actor film-related people should now be listed on this page. |

Doesn't meet notability standards, known primarily for the circumstances of her death (WP:ONEEVENT, WP:MEMORIAL). She is no more notable now than she was when the article was deleted the first time; the sex video "scandal" is trivial. Renerpho (talk) 19:13, 28 June 2026 (UTC)

- I’ve also just found a reference to her presenting the children’s show Atomic on the national broadcaster, I’ve added it to the article.Thief-River-Faller (talk) 22:48, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Thief-River-Faller: A single reference for being the presenter of one non-notable show isn't enough to meet general notability standards. WP:NACTOR asks for either
- 1. significant roles in multiple notable films, notable television shows, stage performances, or other notable productions; or
- 2. unique, prolific or innovative contributions to a field of entertainment.
- Delgado has had neither of those. Renerpho (talk) 23:04, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
- She was also a presenter on El Club de Los Tigritos [1][2] Thief-River-Faller (talk) 23:35, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
- Club de los Tigritos is what made her a household name in Venezuela. It's no different than (actually, probably a bit better than) a random Anglophone soap opera actor having a Wikipedia article with no article content showing notability, just that they did one daytime show, but it's never challenged to delete because most editors have heard of them. Kingsif (talk) 23:40, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
That's one notable tv show. If you show me a second one (because NACTOR specifically says multiple), I may reconsider.Renerpho (talk) 23:47, 28 June 2026 (UTC) Actually, I strike that, because I see no evidence that she had a significant role in that show. The El Club de Los Tigritos article has a single reference (IMDB, which runs afoul of Wikipedia:Citing IMDb), and that reference does not even list Yorgelis Delgado among the show's "top cast". Renerpho (talk) 23:51, 28 June 2026 (UTC)- Honestly, you're
allowedrequired to do some BEFORE and google yourself? She became a household name from Club de los Tigritos, I don't expect Venezuelan in-house shows to keep IMDb particularly well updated but have some refs for that, and then moved onto Entre tú y yo. - And I will say, that sex video scandal was a significant scandal that lasted years, in part because she was known as a child star, in part because it was the first high profile case of such videos stolen and then episodically published by the thief - and the man in it was still talking about in interviews this month. Just because you see it as 'oh, minor celebrity sex tape', doesn't mean the atmosphere around it wasn't culturally significant - though the article doesn't mention anything about all that at present. Kingsif (talk) 00:55, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
- I did google her before this nomination. I found loads of social media posts, but nothing that gave the impression of a notable celebrity. Renerpho (talk) 02:12, 29 June 2026 (UTC)

- Weak Keep. I can see how WP:NACTOR is fulfilled through the notability of the productions Sid has participated in. Even if we question the reviews provided by sources like TOI, they undoubtedly verify the fact that Sid was a participant in each of these shows. I understand the argument that these sources may not meet the standard for WP:BLP, hence my 'weak', but I am also partial to the argument that these may be the only kind of media coverage that actors from minority backgrounds receive, and without definitive proof that such articles are unreliable in this specific case it may be a disservice to delete the article and thereby reduce minority presence on Wikipedia. - Thanks but
- 1) "is a review about the film." Yes. It's explicitly indicated in my !vote : "see reviews of the productions " -> Read all the reviews of the films she has a role in and you will check that she has significant roles in multiple notable. Ergo WP:NACTRESS pass.
- 2) "a first person article" What does that mean? That the journalist says "I"? Hmmm? Okay. She does not (she says We, once) but what would the issue be? The article is bylined: Eleanor Kittle If you don't like it, don't use it. Not sure why it should be considered promo. Do you mean based on excerpts from interviews? Maybe. Still, it's a secondary source. If you don't like, again, don't use. It's not needed.
- 3) Please do a BEFORE next time and explain on what grounds precisely you think a subject is not notable. Rosager is clearly a notable actress. You changed your rationale since we !voted. You should have made that clear per WP:REDACT. Now my !vote seems unfair to you while at the time it was very justified. Please amend that by indicating what and when you added things.
- 4) as for your recently added " I think current sources don't meet the significant notability criteria", it's confusing, especially if you pipe the link to WP:SNG (which she meets!!!!) : significant coverage is one thing; notability is another thing. Do you mean "WP:GNG because of lack of significant coverage"? Familiarise yourself with the jargon and procedures, please. ~2026-35976-24 (talk) 22:27, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- Why are you editing from an IP address? You seem to have vast interest to keeping the article around.
- And significant roles? The show maybe significant, but she doesn't. That said I looked at Google news and I found articles about the movie / series she stars in, but not about her on her own. That said I did find 2 focus pieces
- Tyw7 (🗣️ Talk) — If (reply) then (ping me) 00:14, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
- "Why are you editing from an IP address?" Not from an IP address, with a temporary account. It's slightly different (technically anyone is editing online websites "from an IP address";D) Why not? Since when is that an issue? Why are you editing through a registered account? Since when is it mandatory? "You seem to have vast interest to keeping the article around." Sure, and for a good reason: I think she's notable. Thank you for the new source (the second one was the same one you had discarded earlier, but no worries). Of course her roles in the notable productions mentioned above are significant. Again, read the reviews or watch the films/series and you'll probably admit it. Have a look at the posters of two of her films. Before the Frost and Kiss. Can't you see her? Her name?
- If you (have?) change(d) your mind, feel free to WITHDRAW this nomination.
- Also, you have again changed your rationale since my last reply without making the timeline of your changes clear and my previous comment about the link to SNG that was (but is not anymore, now your link goes to SIGCOV) present in your statement is now confusing....In these conditions, I won't reply here anymore, it's too tedious. There's a good deal of coverage in Danish (some based on interviews), if you wish. Good luck. There's no way she cannot be considered notable and if the English Wikipedia does not consider her notable, then...well...too bad for the English Wikipedia. ~2026-35976-24 (talk) 01:18, 28 June 2026 (UTC)

I propose merging to Godzilla (franchise) because of lack of WP:SIGCOV and WP:FAN. Ever since the article's publication there's been no improvements, from anyone or the publisher, who has recently been blocked indef. This is one of many 4D theme parks rides related to Godzilla and none of them have significant coverage to warrant independent notability for an article. Looking at the sources cited, a few have dead links, this is the best it's gonna get. Perhaps it's more prudent to merge it with the franchise article, which already briefly touches on the theme park rides. Armegon (talk) 16:55, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

I propose merging to Godzilla (franchise) because lack of WP:SIGCOV and WP:FAN. It's been a while since the article was published and there's been no improvements from the user that published it (who was recently blocked indef) or from anyone else. The real reason? Lack of significant coverage to warrant independent notability for an article. This is one of many 4D theme parks rides related to Godzilla, all of them fail SIGCOV and don't really warrant their own articles. The Godzilla (franchise) briefly touches on these theme parks already, so its best to merge this article with that one. Armegon (talk) 16:47, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

I propose merging to Kapur because this page and Kapur have essentially the same content (with this one having slightly more and being better organized), but Kapur is the proper spelling according to Hunterian transliteration rules, so we should make that the canonical page and merge both their contents into that page. - The suggestion certainly makes sense. Neutral, though, because there are some names that are only trancribed Kapoor (I've never seen Anish Kapoor's name transcribed Kapur, for example, and don't think it will ever be), so not sure which should redirect to which or if two pages aren't better. ~2026-35976-24 (talk) 15:49, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

- Obviously,@LaundryPizza03 was suggesting to merge Kapur into Kapoor; their !vote might be considered a response to my Neutral vote containing the comment "not sure which should redirect to which", should anyone else think that there was any room for ambiguity in their !vote. Indicating only where to merge the whole is a very usual way to !vote in Merge discussions. ~2026-35976-24 (talk) 20:23, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- Ngrams is not a good benchmark here because most of these people's names wouldn't appear in books, and the ones names that would appear would likely be those of just one family (the film industry family) whose name is Kapoor, which would be skewed. Tstcikhthys1 (talk) 04:36, 28 June 2026 (UTC)

Beyond that, the article is mostly a list of projects and accomplishments, with little significant independent coverage to demonstrate notability. Tioaeu8943 (talk) 20:40, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

*Keep. The nomination statement is inaccurate, she verifiably passes WP:NACTRESS, the subject-specific notability guideline for actors, with two significant (in her case, lead roles) roles in notable productions; namely Thukra Ke Mera Pyaar and First Day First Show, all the reviews of those notable productions cover her performance, making expansion of the article possible without original research, so that the page meets the WP:Notability core requirements: "A topic is presumed to merit an article if: It meets either the general notability guideline (GNG) below, or the criteria outlined in a subject-specific notability guideline (SNG); and It is not excluded under the What Wikipedia is not policy."--~2026-35976-24 (talk) 16:03, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

- "Only significant role is in the movie Member Rameshan 9aam Ward while other roles being minor." is inaccurate, She has at least two significant roles in notable productions, the one that the nominator acknowledges and "The Young Girl" (despite the generic name for the role it is one of the lead roles) in Footage. See reviews mentioning her performance in that film, for example: https://www.timesnownews.com/entertainment-news/reviews/malayalam/footage-film-review-an-experimental-film-that-offers-a-thrilling-experience-review-112738184/amp, https://thesouthfirst.com/entertainment/malayalam/footage-malayalam-movie-review/ etc. Therefore a WP:NACTRESS pass, not a fail. WP:BLP of a filmmaker, not properly sourced as having any strong claim to passing WP:CREATIVE. As always, filmmakers are not "inherently" notable just because their films exist, and have to be shown to pass WP:GNG on reliable source coverage and analysis about them and their work. But the attempted notability claim here is awards from high school student film festivals, rather than major general-interest film festivals of the type whose awards actually get broadly reported as newsworthy -- and the referencing is entirely to directly affiliated primary sources that are not support for notability, such as his own self-published portfolio, LinkedIn and FilmFreeway directory page, and a hyperlocal WordPress newsblog from his own hometown, with not a single GNG-building reliable source cited at all.
Obviously no prejudice against recreation in the future if and when he has a stronger notability claim and better sourcing for it, but winning awards from minor student film festivals (especially when one of them was staged by high school where the subject was himself a student) is in no way "inherently" notable enough to exempt him from needing more GNG-worthy sourcing than this. Despite his long career, almost all of his roles were one-episode side characters or red-linked works. Supermarket Sweep is by far his most famous work.
The only pre-Supermarket Sweep article I found with any real meat on it was this press release from the Newspaper Enterprise Association. Everything else in the 80s was a passing name-drop of him as one of many co-hosts on Real People, or routine mentions of his stage roles ("David Ruprecht plays the role of..."). Even coverage of Supermarket Sweep at its 1990 debut only confirms him as the host and gives zero biographical information. Post-Sweep, all I found was a routine mention of him hosting a local pageant, and another mention of him in a Q&A column. GBooks gave only name-drops of him hosting Sweep or false positives that had the words "David" and "Ruprecht" next to each other, and GNews gave only a couple gossip or nostalgia articles on Supermarket Sweep.
The current sources in the article are a podcast interview, another interview from Broadway World (which is unreliable per WP:BROADWAYWORLD), an Apple TV listing of a work he was in, and a TV Guide listing verifying a non-notable award he won. None of this is SIGCOV, and my WP:BEFORE showed that there isn't much out there on the guy.
As Supermarket Sweep is by far his most notable role, I think there is sufficient evidence here that a merge/redirect to that show is warranted per WP:ATD. Ten Pound Hammer (they/them) • (What did I screw up now?) 14:19, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

- Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. The subject passes Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria, which says:
People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.
- If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not usually sufficient to establish notability.

Despite the many cited sources, I'm having a hard time finding anything (in the article or on a WP:BEFORE search) that really provides all three of independence, reliability, and significant coverage. The sources about the documentary he made as a college student are largely just trivial news coverage and interviews, and his self-published books (which should not be discussed in such copious detail—if the article is kept, we should restore an older version like this one) don't seem to have gotten any attention in reliable sources. She is highly celebrated in the region and has a solid fan following. Her work in the film Gorai Phakhri (Wild Swans), where she was praised internationally for her performance in the film, is another reason why the page should be kept. She starred in a music label produced by and sung by the national playback singing icons Papon and Shreya Ghoshal, respectively, again, proving why she needs such credibility.
- Her decade-long career in the entertainment industry with international acclaim must be an inspiration rather than an ignorance or a deletion just because of the limited published sources, this might be a case of WP:BIAS/WP:SBEXT. I am literally voting for a KEEP of the page. The notice looks like nothing less than bullying and an attempt to neglect the regional talent. Girii101 (talk) 04:14, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Doczilla Ohhhhhh, no! 08:09, 25 June 2026 (UTC)- Helina Daimary is a northeastern Indian regional artist from the state of Assam. The creator of the subject's page earlier had omitted her works and filmographies, which, however, had been added later. Upon communication with the creator, he stated the reason for the omission is that the regional artist has limited published sources.
- One of the "reviewers" cited the page as the "violation" of the Wikipedia norms as per the WP:NACTOR as initially it was mentioned only the major internationally acclaimed film Gorai Phakhri. This was indeed the gap of communication regarding the necessity of such sources leading to calls for the page to be deleted or redirected. However suggesting that the page of a regional artist should be removed due to the limited published sources is a clear case of WP:BIAS/WP:SBEXT.
- Daimary's decade long career, which includes multiple projects, demonstrates why the page should be maintained rather than deleted or redirected. Such talent must be recognized and celebrated rather than neglected. Girii101 (talk) 18:20, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

- While some cited sources are interviews or project-related coverage, notability should be assessed based on the totality of significant independent coverage rather than any single source in isolation.
- The subject has received coverage across multiple independent publications over a number of years, including national and international media outlets. Some references may be better suited for verification than for establishing notability, and the article would benefit from further refinement of its sourcing. However, the presence of weaker or routine sources is not, by itself, grounds for deletion.
- Where sourcing concerns exist, the appropriate course is improvement through the addition of stronger independent secondary sources and the removal of promotional or primary material. Additional sources can be incorporated to better demonstrate sustained coverage of the subject and his work.
- Accordingly, article improvement is preferable to deletion, and deletion at this stage would be premature. Kalyan84 (talk) 06:19, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

I have made every effort to ensure that the article complies with Wikipedia's content policies, including verifiability, neutrality, and notability requirements. I have been contributing to Wikipedia since 2013. If the reference to a "kamikaze account" is intended to refer to me or my account, I respectfully object to that characterization. Note on WP:ANYBIO and new sources: While WP:ANYBIO criterion 1 includes "significant awards," the guideline notes that meeting one or more does not guarantee that a subject should be included.
The award sources (e.g. ) are passing mentions. Furthermore, the newer Variety and Deadline links brought up by another user (not the ones I was talking about earlier about the upcoming Angry Birds movie) are routine trade announcements regarding a joint deal with her father, not the independent biographical coverage required by WP:GNG and WP:BASIC. - Comment — the nomination states "nothing has changed since the last AfD." That is not correct. The first AfD closed on 3 August 2025, before Panday had won any acting awards and before he had any further projects confirmed. Coverage assessing Panday's acting specifically also does not appear to have been raised in that discussion. I have found independent coverage outside WP:NEWSORGINDIA, and i will bring it into the article and follow up here once done.
- Separately, i would flag the sock/IP pattern for the closer's attention. The struck !votes do not read as organic fan activity - they show no engagement with the subject himself, add no sourcing, and several appeared within minutes of each other. This may be coordination, or a deliberate attempt to taint the discussion. Either way, the closer should weigh the established !votes on their own merits. EmilyR34 (talk) 04:03, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

- i've removed the advertorial brand-ambassador content, several NEWSORGINDIA-style pieces, and trimmed the awards table, while adding independent coverage (Gulf News, Khaleej Times, The Nod) that wasn't there before. Some NEWSORGINDIA sourcing remains, but I'd treat that as cleanup rather than a deletion issue. Happy to address specific passages if any remain a concern. EmilyR34 (talk) 08:35, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- Keep — i went looking past the press releases, and there's real coverage underneath. Khaleej Times and Gulf News both assessed his performance specifically. The Nod did an analytical piece on his reception. A few more sources are cited in the article. Between them, you get his acting, how audiences responded to him, his public image, the nepotism debate his casting kicked off - not just announcements that a project exists. Add to that: Saiyaara became one of the highest-grossing Indian romantic films, which brought him coverage from international outlets outside the usual NEWSORGINDIA problem. He's also won the two major acting-specific awards for the role - Zee Cine for Best Debut, Screen Award for Breakthrough New Actor. I think that's enough for WP:GNG. - Everything you mention is a case for inherent notability. Can you provide the links to the significant coverage that talk about him and not just a film he was in?--CNMall41 (talk) 15:37, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- Sure. These treat Panday as the subject of analysis in his own right, not just as part of the film's marketing. The Week uses Panday as a case study in how the industry manufactures star kids, addressing his background as Chunky Panday's nephew rather than an heir, his packaging, and the reception around him. The Nod offers an independent analysis of why younger audiences responded to Panday specifically and the nepotism debate his casting reopened, reaching back to a 2017 interview of his that resurfaced. Gulf News, separately from its review, runs a critique of how Panday's public image was engineered and received - about the person being marketed, not the movie. - "Still not meeting WP:NACTOR" restates something everyone already agrees on; that's not what's being debated. WP:N treats GNG as an alternative route, not an add-on requirement, so a NACTOR failure doesn't settle anything on its own. The live question is GNG, and the three sources i set out above are independent, outside NEWSORGINDIA, and contain substantive discussion of Panday himself. EmilyR34 (talk) 07:40, 21 June 2026 (UTC)

- And this? There is nothing we can use to build an encyclopedia page other than who he is related to. Hardly significant coverage. In fact, the reference infers he is famous simply because of who he is related to. Wikipedia doesn't work that way. --CNMall41 (talk) 04:34, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
- Gulf News doesn't just list his role. It contains a direct assessment of his screen presence and performance range, and a sustained critique of how his public image was specifically constructed - that's about the person, not a cast listing. The Nod has more than family connections: there's a resurfaced 2017 interview where he addresses his own family connection, and direct observations about his camera presence - content that deals with him specifically, not just the nepotism debate in general. And SIGCOV doesn't require coverage to attribute fame to merit - a source analysing why someone attracted attention, even critically, is still independent coverage of that person. On The Week: film historian Gautam Chintamani analyzes Panday's precise position within Bollywood's star-manufacturing ecosystem, his public persona, and his physical image as a strategic asset. That's several paragraphs of independent analysis from a credentialed film historian, not entertainment churn. EmilyR34 (talk) 14:28, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

- Keep. The Khaleej Times and The Nod Mag pieces are clearly WP:SIGCOV. The Khaleej Times appears to be regarded as reliable outside of domestic political issues and perhaps other political topics that the UAE government might have a particular position on. From what I can tell, The Nod Mag is a traditional WP:NEWSORG and is reliable on that basis - the managing editor Megha Mahindru worked for other WP:RS such as Vogue India, Rolling Stone India, etc. This is enough for a weak keep, without even getting into the other sources that demonstrate notability.Katzrockso (talk) 23:15, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

- Keep – The subject has received significant coverage in reliable independent sources. These include the Deccan Chronicle feature "A role fit for the Raja" (21 April 2018), which focuses on the subject and his role in Aalorukkam, and The New Indian Express feature "One-minute-long messages" (7 November 2014), which provides substantial coverage of the subject's media initiatives and includes extensive discussion of his work. Additional independent coverage exists in Deccan Chronicle, Onmanorama and Deepika regarding his acting and documentary work. The available sourcing goes beyond routine announcements and demonstrates coverage of the subject himself.
- Rahuls110895 (talk) 07:24, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
- The Deccan Chronicle article is somehow decent, but not enough to meet GNG. For that we need multiple reliable sources. The Indian Express source does not count towards this. You mentioned the availability of additional sources. Could you please show us these additional sources? Thilsebatti (talk) 11:27, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
- Setting aside the recent syndicated pieces, the independent, reliable coverage is as follows, with what each actually covers:
- Deccan Chronicle, "A role fit for the Raja" (21 April 2018) – a feature centred on the subject and his casting and role in Aalorukkam; significant coverage of the subject himself, as acknowledged above.
- The New Indian Express, "One-minute-long messages" (7 November 2014) – a feature on the subject's Metromatinee initiative and its "one-minute movie" project, discussing his work in some depth rather than a routine announcement.
- Janayugom (2026) – coverage of the subject's direction of the experimental film Lokamani Sivaraj Ponmakal and its screening at the Independent and Experimental Film Festival, Kozhikode.
- Deepika (24 February 2026) – coverage of his documentary Thiruvarangar – The Deity Singers and its selection for the Thenmala International Film Festival.
- Deccan Chronicle and Onmanorama (online edition of Malayala Manorama), April 2018 – reviews of Aalorukkam that note the subject's supporting performance, establishing the standing of the National Award–winning film in which he held a significant role.
- Per WP:BASIC, where the depth of individual sources varies, multiple independent reliable sources may be combined to establish notability. Here there is coverage spanning more than a decade across several established outlets (Deccan Chronicle, The New Indian Express, Janayugom, Deepika, Manorama), addressing both the subject's acting — a significant role in the National Award–winning Aalorukkam (WP:NACTOR) — and his documentary and independent filmmaking. On balance I believe this is enough to support retention rather than deletion. Amal4260 (talk) 14:49, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- Setting aside the recent syndicated pieces, the independent, reliable coverage is as follows, with what each actually covers:
- The Deccan Chronicle article is somehow decent, but not enough to meet GNG. For that we need multiple reliable sources. The Indian Express source does not count towards this. Thanks, BhikhariInformer 📮 (Ping me or else I won't see it) 06:44, 20 June 2026 (UTC)- Keep – The subject is covered in multiple independent reliable sources over a period exceeding a decade. Deccan Chronicle published a dedicated feature focused on Shaji Ajohn and his role in the National Award-winning film Aalorukkam. Independent coverage also documents his acting career, including reviews that discuss his performance, and his work as a filmmaker and documentary director.
- The available sources cover distinct aspects of the subject's career rather than a single event. They include a biographical feature, coverage of his acting work in a nationally recognised film, and reporting on documentary and feature-film projects that he wrote and directed. Taken together, these sources provide significant independent coverage of the subject himself and satisfy WP:GNG. Notability is assessed through the cumulative weight of reliable independent sources, and the article demonstrates sustained coverage of the subject's work as an actor and filmmaker. Rahuls110895 (talk) 04:12, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
Keep. The nomination argues the coverage is about the subject's projects rather than the subject himself, but a source-by-source look shows otherwise:Deccan Chronicle, "A role fit for the Raja" (21 April 2018) – a feature centred on Shaji Ajohn and his casting and performance, i.e. direct, in-depth coverage of the subject. The nominator has already accepted this as a credible source. The New Indian Express, "One-minute-long messages" (7 November 2014) – substantial coverage of his Metromatinee initiative and its one-minute-film project, well beyond a routine announcement.Janayugom (2026) – coverage of his experimental film Lokamani Sivaraj Ponmakal and its screening at the Independent and Experimental Film Festival, Kozhikode.Deepika (24 February 2026) – coverage of his documentary Thiruvarangar – The Deity Singers and its selection for the Thenmala International Film Festival.
Per WP:BASIC, where the depth of individual sources varies, multiple independent reliable sources may be combined to establish notability. Here the coverage spans several established outlets and more than a decade, addressing both his acting – a credited role in the National Award–winning Aalorukkam – and his work as a writer-director of documentary and independent films. Taken together this is significant independent coverage of the subject and meets WP:GNG. ~~~~ Appurajnk (talk) 06:40, 22 June 2026 (UTC)(

- Keep — Assessed cumulatively under WP:BASIC and WP:NACTOR, the subject clears the bar. The strongest source is the Deccan Chronicle feature "A role fit for the Raja" (21 April 2018), which is centred on Shaji Ajohn himself and his casting and role in Aalorukkam — and which the nominator has already accepted as a credible, in-depth source about the subject. That role was a significant supporting part in Aalorukkam, winner of the [[National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues]], with his performance noted in independent reviews in the Deccan Chronicle and Onmanorama; this speaks directly to WP:NACTOR criterion 1 (a significant role in a notable film). Alongside this, The New Indian Express "One-minute-long messages" (7 November 2014) covers his Metromatinee media initiative in some depth rather than as a routine announcement, and his work as a writer-director is independently documented across Janayugom (the experimental feature Lokamani Sivaraj Ponmakal) and Deepika and Kerala Kaumudi (the documentary Thiruvarangar – The Deity Singers, including its best-documentary award at the 2025 Kohinoor Film Festival).
- I'll be candid that the festival and screening reports are coverage of the films rather than of the person, so the case here is the WP:BASIC one: independent, reliable coverage spanning more than a decade across several established outlets — Deccan Chronicle, The New Indian Express, Janayugom, Deepika, Kerala Kaumudi and Onmanorama — addressing both a nationally recognised acting role and a sustained body of directing work. Taken together this is enough to support retention.Amal4260 (talk) 22:18, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- I didn't check the rest and have no opinion but NACTOR#1 is not "a significant role in a notable film" (which would rather warrant a redirect to the cast of that film imv) but " significant roles in multiple notable productions" (please note the plural and the adjective multiple, which leave no room for ambiguity). - Delete: The only good source is the first one in the article. The rest are either unrelated or trivial mentions that have been synthesized into content in the article along with PR material. Evaluating under SNGs is difficult because his films don't have articles, so their notability cannot be verified. His role also does not seem to be significant. No objection to recreating it with one more good source, but in its current state, it is not enough Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 20:52, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

Overdone level of content for a minor new film festival of purely local prominence.
As always, every film festival that exists does not automatically get the "full spinoff article about every individual year's event" treatment as a matter of course -- that's certainly done for a specific tier of highly prominent film festivals on the Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Sundance or Toronto level of significance, but is not a thing that every regional or local film festival on the planet automatically gets to replicate across the board. The festivals that get that treatment are the ones that get WP:GNG-worthy coverage about each year's event: the ones whose annual programming announcements get widely reported as news, whose annual award announcements get widely reported as news, whose launches of new film market projects get widely reported as news, and on and so forth, so that each year's article can be based on GNG-worthy reliable sourcing.
The Sundar Prize Film Festival, however, is a new festival just launched in 2024, which has not attained the level of wider prominence that would bestow it with nationalized or internationalized coverage in the likes of Playback or Variety or The Hollywood Reporter or Screen Daily: all of these articles are based almost entirely on the festival's own self-published content about itself, on either its own website or its social networking profiles, and very few GNG-worthy secondary sources are being cited at all.
One article about the festival is fine (and passably sourceable), which is why I'm not bundling Sundar Prize Film Festival itself with the rest of this -- but it simply does not have the level of prominence, or the depth or range of sourceability, necessary to support a separate spinoff article about each individual yearly iteration of it. - Keep the 2024, 2025, and 2026 annual articles; merge the award winners list if necessary.
- Conflict of interest disclosure: I am affiliated with the Sundar Prize Film Festival and have contributed to these articles. I am disclosing that relationship so that my comments can be assessed accordingly.
- I understand the concern about reliance on primary and self published sources. I agree that the festival's own material cannot establish notability. However, I do not believe the annual editions are supported only, or almost only, by such material. I made a deliberate and concerted effort to locate and cite independent editorial coverage, while using official sources mainly to verify routine facts such as dates, venues, film titles, jurors, schedules, and prize amounts.
- The 2024 inaugural edition received direct coverage from the Georgia Straight, Stir, Pancouver, The Runner, and the Surrey Now-Leader. This reporting addressed the festival's launch, program, submissions, films, award recipients, and structure.
- The 2025 edition received coverage from The Runner, Stir, Pancouver, and the Surrey Now-Leader, including reporting about its screenings, themes, submissions, awards, participating filmmakers, and emerging filmmaker residency.
- The 2026 edition received advance and subsequent reporting from the Surrey Now-Leader and award coverage from Pancouver. Castanet also published later independent coverage of The Fire in Our Hearts and its Best Environmental Film award. Although that article primarily concerns the film and filmmaker, it provides follow up reporting about a documented outcome of the 2026 festival.
- I respectfully disagree that annual articles must be limited to festivals approaching the prominence of Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Sundance, or Toronto. The relevant test under WP:GNG and WP:SIGCOV is whether each edition has received direct and sufficiently detailed coverage in reliable sources independent of the subject. Those guidelines do not require coverage from particular entertainment trade publications or establish an informal hierarchy of festivals.
- Regional journalism should be evaluated according to its editorial independence, reliability, and depth, rather than discounted solely because of its geography. The cited coverage comes from several separately edited outlets and includes advance reporting, reports on the completed festivals and their awards, and later follow up coverage of festival outcomes.
- The articles may contain more program detail than is necessary, particularly complete screening schedules and social media citations. Those details can be trimmed. However, that is an issue of article scope and presentation. As WP:NEXIST explains, notability is based on the existence of suitable sources, not on whether the current version of an article is perfectly structured or sourced in every respect.
- I also ask that the three annual articles be evaluated individually rather than treated as having identical source profiles. Each edition has its own body of reporting, and the inaugural 2024 edition in particular received coverage from several independent publications.
- Regarding the List of Sundar Prize Film Festival award winners, if consensus finds that the grouping does not yet justify a stand alone list, I would support merging its reliably sourced information into the main Sundar Prize Film Festival article.
- My preferred outcome is therefore to keep the three annual articles and merge the award winners list if necessary. If consensus determines that an individual annual article does not yet warrant stand alone treatment, merging its reliably sourced content per WP:ATD-M and redirecting the title per WP:ATD-R would be preferable to deleting the verifiable material entirely. AmarSanghaOfficial (talk) 04:13, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- As noted above, a film festival does not get yearly spinoff articles about each annual edition separately from the main overview article about the festival just because it can show a small handful of coverage in suburban community hyperlocals in its own local market — every film festival that exists at all can always show some evidence of that.
The film festivals that get that treatment are the ones that garner nationalized and internationalized coverage in major media like Playback, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Screen Daily, The Globe and Mail, The New York Times, The Times of London, Le Monde and the like — Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto, and a select tier of other prominent film festivals with national and international profiles. "The Georgia Straight, Stir, Pancouver, The Runner and the Surrey Now-Leader" is not what we need to see, especially if even with those sources the articles still have to rely far more heavily on the festival's own self-published web presence.
It's true, local coverage isn't forbidden for use on Wikipedia — but purely local coverage isn't necessarily always enough all by itself if there's no evidence of wider attention. I mean, if a thing is based in Metro Vancouver, yet can't even cite The Province or The Vancouver Sun let alone anything else beyond that, then it really isn't our job to help it try to create a wider profile itself.
As well, if you have a conflict of interest then you should never actually have started the articles in mainspace at all, and are required to use the WP:AFC process precisely because of your vested interest. We are not a free public relations venue for organizations to promote themselves by writing and maintaining their own articles. Bearcat (talk) 14:30, 16 June 2026 (UTC)- Thank you for explaining your position further. I understand the distinction you are drawing between sourcing that may support the main festival article and the stronger sourcing expected for separate annual articles.
Since my earlier discussion comment, I have located and added several further independent sources that broaden the sourcing beyond the local publications previously discussed. In particular, a CBC News story[3], a CBC Radio story[4], an article from Playback[5], and an article from the Hindustan Times[6]. So the articles now contain coverage from Canada's national public broadcaster, a national Canadian film industry publication, and a major international newspaper.
These are relevant independent sources from major national and international media. Considered alongside the direct reporting already cited from multiple separately edited outlets, they demonstrate that the citations are not limited solely to the festival's own publications or to regional community coverage. I would also like to reiterate that the festival's self-published references were not intended to substitute for independent editorial coverage.
This directly addresses the concern that the festival has received no national or international media attention. I am not suggesting that these four sources should be considered in isolation. Rather, they form part of the broader body of independent reporting cited across the three annual articles.
Their discovery is again relevant to WP:NEXIST as these are not hypothetical or unspecified sources. They are identifiable, published sources that existed when the articles were nominated but had not yet been cited, and have now been incorporated into the relevant articles.
To clarify, I did not create these articles. I have helped maintain them, correct factual information, and add available references. I understand the importance of neutrality on Wikipedia, and that's why I have disclosed my affiliation with the festival. I have tried to ensure that my contributions are factual, unbiased, and non-promotional. I appreciate the guidance regarding conflict of interest editing and will continue to follow it carefully.
I remain optimistic that additional national and international coverage may develop as the festival grows, but also recognize that the present discussion must be based on the sources that exist now. I simply wanted to ensure that the newly located CBC, Playback, and Hindustan Times coverage was considered before the discussion closes.
I respect whatever consensus is ultimately reached. If the annual articles are not retained, I support preserving their reliably sourced and verifiable content through an appropriate merger and redirect rather than deleting that material entirely. AmarSanghaOfficial (talk) 08:25, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

WP:BLP of a writer and actor, not properly sourced as having any strong claim to passing inclusion criteria for writers or actors. As written, the notability claim here is that he exists and won an award, which aren't automatic notability freebies if the article contains no real substance about his career and isn't sourced well enough to pass WP:GNG -- but the referencing here is almost entirely to primary sources that are not support for notability, and the only footnote that seems potentially reliable is a fairly short blurb that isn't substantive enough to magically vault him over GNG all by itself if it's the only secondary source in the mix.
As well, it warrants note that this was created in draft, and then immediately moved into mainspace by its creator without a proper WP:AFC review.
Nothing here is "inherently" notable enough to exempt him from needing stronger and more reliable sourcing than this. Bearcat (talk) 17:31, 9 June 2026 (UTC)

- Comment: I don't see where he's done any notable roles. A few of the films are notable, but his parts appear to be minor and offhand I can't find any mention of him in RS reviews. As far as production goes, that's difficult to establish notability for because what a producer does can vary depending on the film. Sometimes it's a sign that a person does a lot, sometimes they're just nominal. You'd need coverage and sometimes even major awards to establish notability, assuming the films themselves are notable. - Comment: The overall notability here is extremely marginal. His film roles are pretty non-notable. He's received some coverage for the production roles, but not a lot. It's also almost solely local coverage, so it doesn't really show how he's notable outside of his hometown. The Illyria source is questionable since when I clicked it, I got a dead link. I am leaning towards him being non-notable. The best I could find otherwise is a review for one of his more visible roles and a Variety source that mentions that he was an AP in the cast/crew section. Known for only directing one film. Fails WP:FILMMAKER. Sources are mostly about the movie rather than the person. Other option would be a redirect. Thilsebatti (talk) 11:23, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- Note: this discussion has been included in the AfD sorting lists for the following topics: Actors and filmmakers, Businesspeople, and India. Thilsebatti (talk) 11:23, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- Strongly Keep i think the nominator is not fully familiar with Wikipedias guidelines. This article appears to satisfy both WP:GNG and WP:BASIC. Wikipedia contains many biographies with weaker sourcing than this one. In contrast this article is supported by multiple reliable independent journalistic sources that provide significant coverage of the subject, which strongly supports keeping the article.~2026-33970-10 (talk) 16:03, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- Wikipedia contains many biographies with weaker sourcing than this one; other stuffs exists doesn't mean that anyone can create any other similar articles. Which are the multiple reliable independent journalistic sources that provide significant coverage of the subject? Can you mention here? Thilsebatti (talk) 16:47, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- The answer you have given is a very unprofessional answer. What is Other stuff? Does it exist but you can't make it similar? So.. the rules should be the same for everyone why are different rules made for everyone ~2026-36789-37 (talk) 17:40, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- Note this article has a fair about of involvement from the Alakmarsaify sock farm. The temp account was reported there as well with a CU response of "sorted". Ravensfire (talk) 19:07, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- And you call anyone a socks without thinking and without any evidence... first prove it. ~2026-36789-37 (talk) 17:43, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

- Redirect to Dilli Dark - all of the sources are just him talking about his only film. No stand-alone notability. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 17:27, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- Redirect to Dilli Dark: Does not meet WP:NFILMMAKER, and not enough sourcing focusing on the person, rather than the film. Perhaps (hopefully!) this will change in the future but not right now. Ravensfire (talk) 19:05, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- Delete: Not currently notable. I note this was moved to main article space by a sock, and so would see draftify as a good ATD. UtherSRG (talk) 20:20, 9 June 2026 (UTC)

- Merge to Dilli Dark as there may be a bit of material here which would help flesh out that article. Failing that, redirect. M kuhner (talk) 14:48, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
