Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Finance
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Finance. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Finance|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Finance. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Non-notable Nigerian academic; I can find no evidence he passes WP:GNG or WP:NACADEMIC. Sources are brief routine coverage (, ) and his own writing/lectures (, ), and a primary source professional bio. No evidence of meeting any of the NACADEMIC criteria; Scopus pegs his h-index at 1, which is a sign of very low academic influence. Dclemens1971 (talk) 01:10, 3 September 2026 (UTC)

- Keep - The subject passes GNG as there lot of sources about him which include being name as the Nigerian Islamic Finance Person of the Year in 2024[1] and also clearly passes C6 of NPROF. Kaizenify (talk) 14:19, 3 September 2026 (UTC)
- Can you supply third-party evidence showing that "Nigerian Islamic Finance Person of the Year" is a significant award per WP:NAWARD? As for C6, "head of department of Islamic Law" is not a high-level post. Department chairs don't count for C6, generally only presidents/chancellors/vice chancellors and in some cases deans. Nominated for deletion. The subject of this article is a regional banking executive (CEO of Vista Bank, later NBH Bank) and a former regent for the Texas Tech University System. While these are notable professional milestones, they do not inherently satisfy Wikipedia's Notability guidelines for biographies or Notability criteria for businesspeople.
A review of the existing references and available search results reveals that coverage is largely limited to routine corporate announcements, regional industry press releases regarding executive appointments, local business journal accolades (e.g., Dallas Business Journal's 40 Under 40), and transactional reporting surrounding the acquisition of Vista Bank by National Bank Holdings.
Per General Notability Guidelines and WP:ROUTINE, routine career transitions, regional awards, and political/educational board appointments do not constitute the significant, sustained, independent, and in-depth secondary source coverage required to justify a standalone encyclopedic biography. Despite his prominence within the regional banking sector, the subject lacks the national or lasting historical significance required by Wikipedia policy. Because the primary subject matter revolves around his executive tenure, the article is a candidate for deletion or potentially a redirect to Vista Bank (Dallas) if any encyclopedic history warrants a merge. --DutchBoy97 (talk) 14:42, 1 September 2026 (UTC)

- Speedy keep, speedy close - This AI-generated "argument" for deleting John Steinmetz's article doesn't make any sense, and it was also posted by a newly registered SPA with absolutely no other contributions on Wikipedia. Steinmetz is clearly notable per WP:GNG and WP:NBIO, as he is the president of a notable American bank in Texas with its own Wikipedia article. Plus I crafted this article with a lot of care as an enthusiast in the world of local American banking.
- You can't try to delete a BLP simply because you have a grudge against the subject. This is against Wikipedia's policies.
- The AFD nominator also said on his talk page that it's his very first edit and so he had to use AI to do everything. Speedily keep this and close this right away, since this is AI slop autogenerated from an SPA. The AfD nominator is clearly not here to contribute to an encyclopedia and lacks basic competence. Nebulousways (talk) 16:05, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- This being the first proposed edit that I've made to Wikipedia doesn't mean that I'm here to act on a grudge, nor does it make my account an SPA. It's simply the first update that I've made, and I used available tools to assist me in that process. I'd remind you of WP:AFG before you level accusations like these against me. I haven't attacked you, nor your work, I simply made a proposal for deletion based on lack of notability of the article's subject. DutchBoy97 (talk) 16:59, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- Delete I don't see any malicious use of an LLM in this case, and as Nebulousway's clearly has a COI with this article that must be declared (and 38 edits in six years), their vote is very much a case of not liking that their edits are now under scrutiny as their most recent edits are to this and Vista Bank, and I feel like the nom is being charitable asking for a redirect to Vista because they have more of a strong delete case as the subject is a generic bank executive out of many. The only assistance I see with the nominator regarding LLM was looking up policy to solidify their rationale, and I feel like they expanded them into their own words appropriately. Also Nebulousways, do not attack a nominator who made a good faith argument; this isn't 'slop'. Nathannah • 📮 22:40, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- Reply - My apologies for that. I was emotional yesterday, so let me reply with a clear head.
- Something seems incongruent when a brand new editor's first edit is an AfD nomination.
- This is compounded by the AI use. On the one hand they claim this is their first edit and so require LLM assistance, but yet on the other hand, they clearly know how to add tags, nominate it for AfD, etc. Which is it?
- WP:AGF doesn't mean one has to accept all edits without question. An editor's first edits are very telling, whether it's nominating an article for deletion, casting a vote for AfD or something else a bit contentious. Nebulousways (talk) 04:57, 3 September 2026 (UTC)

British journalist (BLP). This article was recently soft deleted, and then undeleted by the request of the page creator, who then put the draft through AfC, where it was accepted. - soft delete - so he was Chief Operating Officer of the Bank of England, which is at least something. However, the position is much lower compared to something like the Governor of the Bank of England. The role may not also have much definition/prominence given that it was created relatively recently in 2013. He does not appear to have generated much individual coverage, so there is merit to deleting his page. However, if occupying a position in the Bank of England warrents notability in of itself, then it probably should be kept LincolnMagnus (talk) 20:21, 31 August 2026 (UTC)

- As in the case of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sarah John, I am rather doubtful whether this article should in fact be deleted, since on reflection I think that holding such a high position in a national institution perhaps does justify inclusion. - Comment a Google Scholar search of "CB Weinberg" finds a significant number of fairly well cited papers. Unfortunately he does not have a profile, and Scopus has nothing on him so someone would have to count by hand unless there is a better way. For certain his h-factor is more than 20, cites > 2K. That is not enough for WP:NACADEMIC, but a better counting might be.Ldm1954 (talk) 22:40, 29 August 2026 (UTC)
- Comment. (Here from Wikipediocracy, where I often learn about both articles needing improvement and AfDs). Weinberg appears to be the Associated Press' go-to economist: search on apnews.com for "Carl Weinberg" and "High Frequency Economics". That looks to me like a solid indicator of impact in his field, by no means run of the mill. (Many of the non-AP articles I looked at, in the financial and general press, also referred to TV appearances.) But I can't find a single published profile to lock it down; the closest is this, which is all about his opinion, but attributes the biographical paragraph at the end to the High Frequency Economics website. I'd like to argue "Keep" and to brush up the article, but absent coverage of Weinberg himself, I don't see how. Yngvadottir (talk) 22:29, 2 September 2026 (UTC)

I propose redirecting to Accion International because this article does not have the notability to stand on its own. This article, as it exists, relies almost entirely on primary sources and is written like an advertisement. The subject of the U.S. Network is already covered in the 1990s section of Accion International. Details can be added to the target article if properly sourced to flesh out this portion of the company's history if need be but I don't see a need to even qualify this as a merge due to existing issues with independent sourcing on both articles. I propose merging to Superannuation in Australia because this information doesn't need to be in two articles per points one and two of WP:MERGEREASON, this is part of the broader topic of superannuation in Australia. I propose merging to Superannuation in Australia because this topic is directly relevant to the target and it is unnecessary to be required to navigate to a seperate article to see this important information, this means the merge complies with points one and two of WP:MERGEREASON.
Separately from the main point of this discussion, this article will also need to be updated for the federal government's recent reforms that increased taxation on super balances of over $3 million. This article and the proposed target will also need to be check to make sure it does not include financial advice as it is not Wikipedia's job to do that and I assume it would be illegal to provide that per guidance the media always provides on this issue. - Keep. Satisfies GNG with significant coverage in books and periodical articles in Google Books, Google Scholar and elsewhere. There are entire book chapters about this and entire periodical articles . This article does not satisfy criteria 1 of MERGEREASON because it is not on the same subject, and does not have the same scope, as superannuation in Australia. Nor does it satisfy criteria 2 of MERGEREASON, because the overlap is small, non-redundant and insufficient, as taxation of superannuation is only one aspect of the much larger and wider topic of superannuation in Australia. James500 (talk) 05:41, 31 August 2026 (UTC)

Superannuation in Australia
; the article has a very similar scope as they both cover an aspect of Australia's financial system, that means the subject is very similar too. Qwerty123M (talk) 06:55, 31 August 2026 (UTC)- Per WP:ARTN and WP:NEXIST, those sources do not need to be added to the article in order to determine that the article should be kept. Per WP:BEFORE, editors are required to read those sources even if they are not added to the article. GNG creates a presumption that a topic should have a standalone article. There more GNG-satisfying coverage the topic has, the stronger that presumption will be. In this case, there is so much coverage that the presumption appears overwhelming. Those four sources alone contain 76 pages of coverage between them. That much information would be WP:UNDUE in the parent article and could not be added to the parent article without making it WP:TOOBIG. There is no similarity between the scope of the two articles or their subjects. To claim otherwise is roughly equivalent to claiming that Norfolk has a similar scope to England because the latter contains the whole of the former, or because both are part of the UK.
