Alleles should be bold. Where an allele already has a name, e.g. for sickle cell anaemia, use that. Otherwise use A and a (? but suggests dominance; is there an alternative?)

Standardly, use p and q for allele frequencies, possibly r for a third. s is unfortunately used elsewhere for ${\displaystyle 1-w}$.

At equilibrium, they should be represented with an ampersand hat over the top:
