Overview
This election is to appoint the project coordinator team for one year, from 1 October 2026 – 30 September 2027 . Coordinators are generally responsible for maintaining all of the procedural and administrative aspects of the project. All of the coordinators, and especially the lead coordinator (or lead coordinators), serve as the designated points-of-contact for procedural issues and focus on specific areas requiring special attention. They are not, however, endowed with any special executive powers.
Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the project coordinators is the maintenance and housekeeping work involved in keeping the project and its internal processes running smoothly; this includes a variety of tasks, such as keeping the announcement and open task lists updated, overseeing the assessment and review processes, managing the proposal and creation of task forces, and so forth. There is fairly little involved that couldn't theoretically be done by any other editor, of course—in only a few places have the coordinators been explicitly written into a process—but, since experience suggests that people tend to assume that someone else is doing whatever needs to be done, it has proven beneficial to formally delegate responsibility for this administrative work to a specified group.
The coordinators also have several additional roles. They serve as the project's designated points of contact, and are explicitly listed as people to whom questions can be directed in a variety of places around the project. In addition, they have (highly informal) roles in leading the drafting of project guidelines, overseeing the implementation of project decisions on issues like category schemes and template use, and helping to resolve disputes and keep discussions from becoming heated and unproductive.

- The election will be conducted using simple approval voting. Any member of the project may support as many of the candidates as they wish. The candidate with the highest number of endorsements will become the lead coordinator (provided he or she is willing to assume the post); this position may be shared in the event that multiple candidates receive the highest number of endorsements. The remaining candidates will be appointed as coordinators to a maximum of eleven appointments (including the lead coordinator). The number of coordinators may be increased or reduced if there is a tie or near-tie for the last position.
- Both project members and interested outside parties are encouraged to ask questions of the nominees or make general comments.

A.Cython
- I was invited to submit a nomination by Donner60, which is an honor even if my nomination fails. Despite having a 19 years old account, my active experience is closer to 3 years in total (most active in the last 12 months), making me overall a new-ish editor. This means that some things are new to me (such as officially participating in a project) or lacking the experience to deal with certain situations. However, I am learning and perhaps under the guidance of more experienced coordinators I will continue to do so. My main contribution is primarily article improvement by bringing articles to GA status, though I hope to bring some of them to FA status in the future. Since last January, I improved 40 Military History articles to GA and one to FA. My focus is mainly Roman/Byzantine history, and a bit of modern Greece-related political/military affairs.
Comments and questions for A.Cython
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- While still pending, I feel proud of my recent nomination for Good Topic the Gothic War (535–554) (parent article is a level-4 vital article). It was a long journey that took approximately 10 months. After 2 merges and 2 new articles, 20 battle- and siege-related articles were brought to GA status (+DYK); two of these articles are currently under ARC. During this process, I have also been improving the biographies of various minor and major characters who participated in the war to GA status. I felt this was necessary to assist the reader in better understanding the topic; examples include Frankish and Ostrogoth kings as well as minor Byzantine commanders (Theudebert I, Vitiges, Constantinianus, etc). More work is needed, but I hope this was a good step in the right direction.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- While I do not have expertise in history (PhD in chemistry/physics), I have good access to books and journals. This access greatly assists me in improving articles both in terms of verification and expansion/improvements. This access is also instrumental in reviewing, which I believe is essential for the continuous improvement of WP articles and the eventual success of the WP:WPMH project. I tend to keep my ratio of GA reviews and nominations close to 2. Beyond the GA-space, I have been reviewing at the A-class and FA levels (as I am learning the standards at these levels) and I have occasionally assessed articles for B-class at the WP:WPMH project. I intend to continue to review at every level. I would be happy to assist in other duties of the project.

- I'm probably more familiar with A.Cython from FAC than MilHist but what I've seen at FAC suggests good coord material. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk)

- I have been a coordinator for three terms. I mainly do B-class assessments, checking and confirming contest entries and checking bot assessments. I occasionally close A class reviews as an uninvolved coordinator, having not made any of the necessary five reviews for such assessments. I answer questions and give opinions or advice more often than I would do if I were not a coordinator. A user need not be a coordinator to do GA assessments. I have not been doing any of them because I have often done the B class assessments. So I would not be an independent new reviewer. Again, a user does not need to be a coordinator to save GAs put up for reassessment. However, I probably have saved more of these than I would have if I were not a coordinator. Many articles, including GA articles often deteriorate over time due to poor, often unsourced, edits or additions. It is good for the project's reputation, as well as for the readers, to retain GAs and keep them up to the GA standards. I make the customary, though likely unnecessary, Shermanesque statement as to the lead coordinator position.

- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I have written many military history and military biography articles and contributed to or edited many more such articles. In the absence of more coordinators, and even with some experienced users helping, there is much reviewing, replying and other tasks to be done. I have helped keep the backlog of projects low as possible for much of my tenure. I have never put up an article for GA but I think I have written several good ones. (I was discouraged early on in part due to a rogue, now banned, editor posting bogus C class assessments, often several per minute. More explanation on my user page.) I think, a military biography, John F. R. Seitz, is a good example of a longer, more comprehensive article that I wrote. All of my articles are listed on my user page (or a sub-page) along with some other work that I have done on the project over the years. Part of my statement also answers this question to some extent.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- Over more than 16 years of writing, editing and reviewing on Wikipedia, I have learned to keep in mind and to often refresh my memory of many of the guidelines and policies, including those in the project's Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Academy. I try to maintain civility and try to reach consensus if I become involved in or comment on any controversies or disputes. I am willing to admit and change mistakes or misjudgments if they are pointed out, especially with citations that show what correction may be needed or when facts or examples of past judgments or articles show that I have made a misjudgment. In turn, however, I will stand by any edits or statements which I can likewise explain and support. I have some advanced permissions which can occasionally be useful in maintaining the project. I have accumulated a large number of books on military history over the years which can help me in reviewing and commenting as well as in writing and editing.

- I was a coord in the last term (and before that in 2014-15) and am happy to throw my hat into the ring again.
Comments and questions for Dumelow
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I've stepped away from article creation over the past year to focus on improving articles I had previously started. I have been pleased to see Action at Sihayo's kraal, List of Royal Navy flag officers who died during the First World War (collaboration with Pickersgill-Cunliffe who is also standing for election), Zungeni Mountain skirmish, Richard Thomas Glyn and John Cecil Russell pass for featured status and hope to get more over the line this year.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- I was pleased to see the level of participation in the November 2025 Article Improvement Drive, which I helped to bring back after several years hiatus and which saw citations being added to hundreds of previously uncited articles. I would look to run another on similar lines this term, if sufficient support can be found to help run it. I would also like to encourage more activity at our project's A-class review, which is the best pipeline to FA class anywhere on the encyclopaedia.

GGOTCC
GGOTCC (talk · contribs) Hello! I am a newcomer to MILHIST Coordination, which means I can bring a set of fresh eyes to the system. That being said, I am well versed in the various corners of the Wikiproject and want to help ensure everything runs smoothly. I primarily focus on naval history, primarily obscure ships post-1800 and the US Navy.
Comments and questions for GGOTCC
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- Ignoring the funny name, that distinction goes to USS Gyatt. The article was the first one I nominated for Good Article status and a Did You Know hook, and I am very proud with how the article came out despite my unfamiliarity with the process. It was fascinating to research how the ship fit into the larger picture and how rapid changes in technology and doctrine lead the the first guided missile destroyer and other odd weapons. I have also been working on three Good Topics on the commerce destroyers of the post-American Civil War era, which I am excited to finish.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- I am a history major at Virginia Tech and have access to a massive wealth of information through our institutional resources. On Wikipedia, I am also an Articles for Creation reviewer, New Page Patroller, and a mentor. As one of the younger members of the Wikiproject and a member of the aforementioned groups, I have an easy time relating to the experiences of younger/new editors and assisting them understand the website.

In addition to article work, I maintain the project's MilHistBot (talk). I read a lot of military books and write book reviews for our monthly newsletter, The Bugle.

- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I am one on the 1,000 most active editors on Wikipedia. At last count, I have written 110 Featured Articles and 383 Good Articles and written or expanded 510 Did You Know articles. Mainly what I worked on for some years was improving the articles on the Manhattan Project, to ultimately create a Featured Topic. I am a strong advocate of our review processes. In more recent times I have been writing articles on military logistics and World War II, both rather neglected topics.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- I have MA(Hons) and PhD degrees in military history. I work at a university and have access to academic libraries and online journal resources. I have experience with military history research related to World War I and II. I also write and maintain Bots, writing in the Perl and C# languages. The role of the coordinator used to be quite complex so I wrote the MilHistBot, initially to handle the work involved in promoting articles to A-class. Since then I have set the MilHistBot to work cleaning up our project backlogs, several of which are now no more. I am also a template editor, and can tackle complicated templates and Lua modules.

Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk · contribs) Hi! I was a coordinator in the three tranches prior to this last one, having been on hiatus for much of 2025. I'm back in the saddle now and would be very happy to return to coordinating. My editing interests are predominantly naval and focused on the long eighteenth century.

- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- My favourite Featured Article is probably Thomas Hardy (Royal Navy officer, died 1732). I gain great satisfaction in being able to shed light on notable individuals who have begun to drop out of sight in the modern world. Right now I am working on the Roebuck-class ships, have brought eight to Good Article status and am hoping to eventually create a Good Topic.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a coordinator?
- Previously as a coordinator I focused on article reviewing, mostly GA and ACR with some FAC sprinkled in, and welcoming new project members. I have also contributed a little to the Bugle, and assisted somewhat with the contest. I would look to continue in all of these areas. I am a moderately experienced editor, having been active in the project for about five years. I have six Featured Articles, one Featured List, seven A-Class Articles, and ninety-one Good Articles. I have also been an admin for the last two years. I hope that my history will allow me to contribute positively and sensibly to the project.
