With many people (especially in the southern hemisphere) taking holidays, we're pleased to bring you an extra-large edition of the regular book review section. It includes four reviews by Hawkeye7 and one by Peacemaker67.
We're also pleased that the number of A-class reviews that are passing has increased over recent months. As a result, the article news section includes six new A-class articles on a diverse range of topics. It also includes a new featured picture and, after a drought last month, five new featured articles, including two by first-time nominators.
Over the Christmas break, Nick-D visited Hong Kong. He has shared his reflections on a military cemetery there as part of a review essay.

Contest department |

The December 2025 edition of the contest department's article writing-and-improvement contest saw GGOTCC take first place with 6 articles, 2 brought to GA class, and 35 points. GGOTCC was awarded the WikiChevrons. Zawed took second place with 5 articles, 1 brought to GA class and 29 points. Zawed was awarded the Writers Barnstar. Other entries were submitted by by Djmaschek, Hog Farm, simongraham and Sturmvogel 66.
With appropriate fanfare: the Military History Writers' Contest Cup for 2025 went to Sturmvogel 66 having taken first place overall with a total of 412 points from 91 articles. Zawed, who received the Writers' Contest Cups for 2023 and 2024, had another strong year finishing second with 311 points from 59 articles. The January 2026 contest results start the 2026 annual contest. Monthly totals are applied to the overall 2026 Writer's Contest Cup, which will be awarded to the contestant with the highest number of total points at the end of December 2026. Please consider submitting your current article projects as entries in this friendly competition and display of notable project work.
