None of this is easy for beginners. Doing video upload is nearly unprecedented for Wikipedia, but we are going to give this a try.

1. Create a Wikimedia account if you do not have one.
2. Please sign in to the program dashboard through the big text at top
3. Anticipate sharing your wiki account name matched to your real name with your instructor. The wiki community does not need your real name, but your instructor will.
4. Find a documentary film which you want to share
5. Confirm that the film has open copyright status
   1. published in United States more than 95 years ago
   2. is a work of the United States Federal Government
   3. Copyright status passes Commons:Hirtle chart
6. Use digital converter to convert film container to HTML5, OGG, or OGV. MP4, MOV, others not acceptable
7. Upload to Wikimedia Commons
   1. When asked for copyright, use a pre-existing copyright template

      2. {{PD-US-expired}}
      3. {{PD-US-not renewed}}
      4. {{PD-US-no notice}}
   2. When asked for category, use "documentary films" and any others you think are appropriate.
8. Insert media file into a relevant Wikipedia article
