Question regarding page size

For points awarded for word count of an article, is this for count before review or after review? PeriodicEditor (talk) 18:29, 26 May 2026 (UTC)

Historically it has always been before review (since you are "counting" the number of "words" that you have/had to "review"!). -- Reconrabbit (talk) 19:37, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for the clarification. PeriodicEditor (talk) 20:17, 26 May 2026 (UTC)

GA nominee renaming

Coords should know that there was consensus to move {{GA nominee}} to {{Good article nominee}}, {{GAN}} to {{Good article nomination}}, {{GAR}} to {{Good article reassessment}}, and {{GA}} to {{Good article banner}}; not too sure about the full scope of this change but @SD0001's GAN-helper/GAR-helper, and @Novem Linguae's GANReviewTool might need updating after ChristieBot updates. msk 18:53, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

Question from a first-time GA Reviewer

I claimed the Kobe Bryant article. Is there anything I have to do after starting the review to reflect that on the nominations page? EaglesFan37 (talk) 01:38, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

A bot will update the main nominations page. Erinius (talk) 02:06, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
Also, if you don't have an experienced reviewer who's planning on assisting with your review you should add it to the list in the "Progress" section. Erinius (talk) 02:33, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
@Erinius Will do! EaglesFan37 (talk) 02:45, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

Question on template for participants section

What is the # number for in the template for the participants section? This one: # Articlename (# words) <-- right there. I will leave it blank for the time being. Thanks in advance. Ilov3gam3z (talk) 11:45, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

There, you put how many words the article has. Please round the number to the nearest one! (e.g. if the article has 2400 words, round it to 2500, and if it has 2100 words, round it to 2000). Cheers, Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 13:12, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
On the left side (old Vector skin), there should be a Word count link. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 13:13, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
Thanks! Ilov3gam3z (talk) 13:20, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

Quick clarification

I'm assuming you're not a "newbie" anymore once you get to 6 reviews (no more double points and no more submitting reviews to be checkmarked by someone); am I correct to assume so? ⹃Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 12:32, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

Yes, once you pass 6 reviews you become an "experienced reviewer". Make sure to specify that in your subsection (e.g. former newbie, now experienced). Cheers, Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 13:10, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
Alright, thanks. Was wondering because I begin the drive at 5. ⹃Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 15:51, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

Question About Newbie Reviews

I finished my GA review on the Kobe Bryant article. If I made the decision to put the GA on hold until changes are made, am I able to just do that via the GAN script, or would an experienced reviewer have to do that? EaglesFan37 (talk) 18:26, 3 June 2026 (UTC)

You can do it yourself via the script! The Blue Rider 21:30, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
An experienced reviewer should double check whether you have done everything you were supposed to do. Once that is done, you can close the review. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 13:26, 6 June 2026 (UTC)

Any experienced reviewers available?

Hello! I just finished my review for 1933_Funsten_Nut_strike/GA1, and now I need an experienced reviewer to double-check my work (no one has claimed the article yet). Is anyone interested? Chao Garden 🌱 ~ say hello 00:42, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

GA reassessment

The GA I just got passed has practically instantly went to GA reassessment. If it gets taken down from GA status, does it still count as a successful review? Thanks. Ilov3gam3z (talk) 11:12, 8 June 2026 (UTC)

Hm... This never occurred during backlog drives as long as I remember. @Reconrabbit and Kline:, what do you think? If you ask me, if a GA gets delisted, then points for that review should be voided. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 12:45, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
If it's delisted then the points should be struck. I share responsibility on this particular review due to not looking closely enough at the content of the sources. Anything else I have to comment on would be better addressed at the page in question though. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 12:53, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
Agreed, if the review wasn't sufficiently thorough enough to catch this, I'd consider the review invalid for the sake of points. kline / talk / contribs 14:30, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
@Reconrabbit: can you remove the points and de-list the review from my user section, (the San Diego California Temple one) as it seems that it seems that it will probably get struck down from GA status. Ilov3gam3z (talk) 22:14, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
Also I have just completed my other review, of the John Deere World Headquarters article. Ilov3gam3z (talk) 22:21, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
We'll deal with it once the reassessment is closed. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 23:27, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
The article was not delisted, so no reason to remove anyone's points. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 19:47, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

Frederic Morgan, 5th Baron Tredegar

I would particularly like the opportunity to review this article because because I have made many edits of Octavius Morgan, who is a close relative of its subject. I'm a newbie reviewer. Consequently, I would be grateful to learn what I need to do next. John Desmond (talk) 17:17, 9 June 2026 (UTC)

Regarding assists

The instructions for assists are not really clear to me (or my brain is just fried), but how does it work? I’ll appreciate if anyone is able to explain to me. For example, what does an assist review consist of, what is the assist reviewer allowed to do and not do? Are assists like reviewing the “review” of the newbie reviewer? Or can it also include you spotting issues (probably missed by the newbie reviewer anyhow) and noting them for the nomination to fix? …and so on. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 05:40, 10 June 2026 (UTC)

An assistant is supposed to check if the newbie reviewer has done everything properly during the review. If they've missed something, explain it to them how they're supposed to achieve that. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 09:43, 10 June 2026 (UTC)

Reminder

@Reconrabbit, Kline, and LEvalyn: Should we send a talk page message to participants who have signed up but not started reviewing yet on 15 June, to remind them that the backlog drive is ongoing and that we would welcome their reviews? Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 10:31, 10 June 2026 (UTC)

I wouldn't mind the idea, a quick nudge should be enough to encourage those who forgot. kline / talk / contribs 20:51, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll do that on Monday. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 12:43, 12 June 2026 (UTC)

Hi there! Thanks for signing up for the June 2026 GAN backlog drive! We have noticed that you have made little to no reviews during the drive. We, the coordinators, would appreciate if you'd pick up at least one GAN to review until the end of the month! Thank you.

Proposing a modification to scoring system

Unfortunately I don't have the time to participate in the GAN drive this month. However, I've noticed there are some articles that have been waiting for a review for a very long time. Kiddush levana has been waiting for a year and a half (from December 2024). I counted 11 articles from June 2025 or before that are still waiting on a review (so a year). If my calculations are correct about 192 articles have been waiting at least six months. Maybe it would be good to give a bonus points to reviewers of articles that have been waiting 6 months or longer for a review? Jaguarnik (talk) 17:15, 13 June 2026 (UTC)

We do that during regular backlog drives (e.g. see the October 2025 drive). Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 10:27, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

Concerns

I'm having a difficult time with a review: Talk:Tamara_Bunke/GA3

After indicating that I think the nomination should be marked as unsuccessful (due to many spot-check issues discovered, which indicate to me that all citations should be double-checked before the article is resubmitted for GA again), the nominator immediately starting reviewing one of my GA nominations, which seems highly irregular? Talk:Reine_Audu/GA1

I wanted to raise this to the drive organizers... @Vacant0, @Reconrabbit, @LEvalyn, or @Kline, what do you recommend I do? First of all, I haven't marked the nom as unsuccessful yet, because I haven't completed 6 reviews yet & am waiting for confirmation from an experienced reviewer before I do so. And just generally, this whole situation is becoming unpleasant. Thank you for your time. Tagging @Chilicave as well. — Chao Garden 🌱 ~ say hello 08:08, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

I've discovered that the nominator at Talk:Tamara_Bunke/GA3 has been repeatedly deleting my feedback (newest deletion at the top, oldest at bottom of list):
  1. - deleted 1 comment
  2. - deleted 2 comments
  3. - deleted 4 comments
Whether intended or not, this has the effect of masking just how many times I've had to check and recheck these sources.
I reverted two of the more recent instances Special:Diff/1359622987/1359623850 and Special:Diff/1359634971/1359657326, but the older instance with 4 deleted comments is just too far back to manage with how nested the conversation is.
Honestly shocked to see this behavior. — Chao Garden 🌱 ~ say hello 13:56, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
Hey everyone, this has been resolved. — Chao Garden 🌱 ~ say hello 02:38, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
Presumably Talk:Reine Audu/GA1 will need to be reallocated somehow. TSventon (talk) 03:49, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
I was just about to ask in the main GA talk page for help. I hope there is a way to just delete the review page & reset the GA counter. Or if that can't be done, I hope it can be reassigned. — Chao Garden 🌱 ~ say hello 03:59, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

A query

I have completed two reviews so far, and two others are currently in progress. This is my first participation in the backlog drives. Could one of the coordinators please let me know when a review is marked as Done after completion? In the meantime, I'll continue reviewing. Best, MSincccc (talk) 07:45, 20 June 2026 (UTC)

Yes, I'll check them out now. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 10:50, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
@Vacant0 Thank you. I just wanted to ask why I didn't receive any points for reviewing Ann Dallas and Corporate Memphis. Best, MSincccc (talk) 16:36, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
@MSincccc: Ann Dallas was tagged with instead of . Regarding Corporate Memphis, I did not promote it due to COI. A different coord should do that. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 19:56, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
@Vacant0 Thanks. I understand. I'll be more careful in future when adding similar tags. Best, MSincccc (talk) 09:25, 29 June 2026 (UTC)

Newbie reviewer closed a review before an experienced reviewer could check it

Newbie reviewer Qwerty123M reviewed Sean Duffy, and I served as the experienced reviewer. They closed the review, promoting the article to good article status, before I could review it completely. I also did not give them the confirmation to close the review. Upon reviewing the article, I inserted expansion tags to address gaps in the information, including one covering a controversial topic. TheVoicelessWriter (talk) 09:10, 24 June 2026 (UTC)

@TheVoicelessWriter: Feel free to revert the closure and notify the reviewer. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 11:44, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
NY Post is also used in the article (it should be removed). Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 11:45, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
Thank you. I have reverted the closure and notified the reviewer and nominator about the revert and the required edits. TheVoicelessWriter (talk) 12:01, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

Experienced reviewer wanted

Hi, I'm a newbie and I've taken on Bar Kokhba Revolt and I would really appreciate an experienced reviewer. There's currently a discussion between two editors on the review page about a content issue (related to a note I'd given earlier), I can see arguments either way for whether the resolution of that issue has implications for the GAC - and so for the review - and an outside opinion with some experience would be welcome. Samuelshraga (talk) 05:24, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

@Samuelshraga: If the article currently has a content issue, it is not stable, therefore it cannot become a Good Article. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 11:47, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
Well even if I were to fail it on that basis, I'd need an experienced reviewer, so my basic request remains the same. Samuelshraga (talk) 13:13, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
@Vacant0 it looks like no one wants to take this on, which is more than fine. Now that June is over, should I just do the best job I can without oversight and the nominator can always ask for reassessment if I don't do a good enough job? Samuelshraga (talk) 07:26, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
Hey. If no one picks these reviews up in the next few days, I'll take a look at them. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 16:27, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
I now technically have 10 completed reviews (11 if you count the one on hold). Could I help with these pending "newbie" reviews that need an experienced reviewers, or would you prefer someone with more long-term/established experience? — Chao Garden 🌱 ~ say hello 17:22, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
Yes, you can. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 19:43, 2 July 2026 (UTC)

Is there a cadence for how often the reviews are checked?

I just completed a couple of reviews, but before having to commit on new reviews, I want to get feedback from experienced reviewers to sign off existing reviews. I managed to get one approved by an experienced reviewer, but the rest seem to be a bit slow.

Also, for newbie scoring, is it checked on weekly basis? ABehjat (talk) 21:43, 26 June 2026 (UTC)

Points

When was the last time someone went through the completed reviews posted to award points? It seems to have been a few weeks. Bgsu98 (Talk) 17:28, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

Do we get points for articles on hold at the deadline?

The subject line says it all. Do we? (I'm working off the assumption that we do because I reasoned that having the rules demand a pass or fail by the deadline incentivizes rushed passes or fails instead of putting articles on hold.) –Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 10:32, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

The traditional way of interpreting the rules is that a review must only be started by 30 June 2026, 23:59:59. Hopefully, participants can wrap up their reviews within a week so that final tallies can be completed - distribution of barnstars takes a while anyway. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 13:37, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
Oh, right! Wikipedia:Good articles/GAN Backlog Drives/June 2026#Participants and reviews tracker: "Article reviews started before 30 June but completed after that date can be included, but aim to be prompt to avoid leaving nominators hanging." -- Reconrabbit (talk) 15:34, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
Excellent! I don't know how I missed that – I did read the page first, seriously! –Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 19:05, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

Suggestion for future drives

Can the drive span two months instead of one? I feel like I _just_ got a hold of some good practices from experienced reviewers that doing more with them will help me do a better job.

Thank you again for extending the invitation to me! ABehjat (talk) 06:05, 20 July 2026 (UTC)

That's an interesting suggestion. I'd say that we can organise an experimental drive that would last two months and see if it'll work out. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 10:14, 20 July 2026 (UTC)

Coords

@Reconrabbit, Kline, and LEvalyn: a bit late, but congrats on handling the drive, I'll award you with barnstars. I'll go ahead and take a look at the rest of the (finished) reviews and award participants with barnstars. I've been very busy and barely did anything this month, so I apologise for that. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 17:38, 20 July 2026 (UTC)

Are you going to do it all at once or by-section? I've been making a list of done and not-done but got sidetracked. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 18:35, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
I'm going to check off completed reviews and notify reviewers of their uncompleted reviews. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 18:46, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
The only remaining participants that haven't been awarded barnstars (excluding those with fewer than 3 points) are due to having incomplete reviews. I have a list but don't want to call them out here because I've already asked about it at nearly every outstanding item. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 19:56, 12 August 2026 (UTC)
Okay! Everything should be done, except for Talk:Saiyaara (film)/GA1 which has been stuck for a while and I don't know why. Everyone else who has reviews on hold has done enough that any change in points-accumulated would not affect their results. (also still waiting on that Minor Barnstar I'm promised!) -- Reconrabbit (talk) 17:01, 8 September 2026 (UTC)
