Quick poll on January meeting
Let's gather info on who wants to do it when and try to set a date by December 15, 2004. -- Jmabel | Talk 00:29, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)
- Saturday, January 15, Seattle
- OK - Jmabel | Talk 00:29, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)
- 90% make-able - Jwrosenzweig 15:07, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Obviously I blew it and missed the last one, so I don't count for much, but this would work for me, as would January 22. RadicalSubversiv E 09:46, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Will try to make whatever date is chosen. Right now I'm not aware of any conflicts, but my schedule in January is still a bit fluid. The 22nd is definitely not possible for me, however. --Michael Snow 19:13, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Saturday, January 29, Seattle
- OK - Jmabel | Talk 00:29, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)
- Somewhat better than OK - Jwrosenzweig 15:07, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I might be able to be make this one.I'll be out of town for the earlier date. - Decumanus 00:55, 2004 Dec 9 (UTC)
- I'll have left town. RadicalSubversiv E 09:46, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Would probably prefer this over the 15th, but no strong preference either way right now. --Michael Snow 19:13, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)
So far we have 3.9 (!) for the 15th and 3 for the 29th. Not much of a turnout, either way. This is not looking encouraging, though I'd gladly get together with 2.9 of my colleagues... -- Jmabel | Talk 05:37, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)
Messages left
I've dropped a message about the jan 15 meetup on the user talk page of everyone I know is even vaguely active and lives in striking distance. I'm sure a lot of others have never listed their locations, so I'm unaware they live near here... -- Jmabel | Talk 07:13, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)
- I'm sorry I was unable to respond and then to attend. My father-in-law died on the 12th of Dec, and things are only just now starting to return to something resembeling normal. Count me in for the next meetup. Elde 05:41, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)
some notes
I assume we'll refactor this comment somewhere into Wikipedia:Meetup/Seattle/Jan 15, 2004 or something like that. I just wanted to note that I've started Wikipedia:Museum projects, per discussion at the meetup. I will contribute more to it later. My first project will probably be a collaboration with a museum volunteer I know in Lincoln County, Oregon. Great to see you all again! DanKeshet 04:28, Jan 16, 2005 (UTC)
missed meetup & seattle at wikimania
1) sorry I missed (both!) Seattle meetups (buried in grad school etc) but I am looking forward to going to the next one, if it happens/hasn't already happened?
2) is anyone else going to wikimania? I am fortuitously in europe anyway, so am going, & hopefully presenting. Brassratgirl 07:26, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
- There haven't been any new meetups to my knowledge, but maybe we can start thinking about another one. Jmabel is busy for a few weeks, when he gets back might be a good time to plan it. That would put us in late June or into July. If that's before you depart for Europe, we could get one in before you head for Wikimania. I'm not likely to attend (in Europe, I mean), so it would be great to send you as our local "representative". --Michael Snow 04:39, 26 May 2005 (UTC)
- Ah, I've been travelling & missed this note.. am already in Europe & will be there until after Wikimania... I would be happy to be Seattle's "local rep", although I don't know any of you! Anyway, if there is a meetup after I get back (aug 16) I'd be happy to report. Here is the paper I'm presenting: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Wikimania05/Paper-PA1 cheers -- Brassratgirl 8 July 2005 14:04 (UTC)
Our neighbors to the north
Just a note for anyone watching this page who might be interested. The Vancouver Wikipedians are apparently having a meeting on September 24, with the idea of planning to possibly host Wikimania next year. For more information see this page. I would encourage people to support this effort if you can. --Michael Snow 23:51, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
Is it time for another meetup?

Wikipedia Takes America
Date? Time? Location? List of targets? --Dennis Bratland (talk) 01:28, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
- National Register of Historic Places listings in Seattle, Washington is the list of sites that are eligible for the larger Wiki Loves Monuments photo contest, so those are all pretty prime targets.--Pharos (talk) 20:48, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
A lot of the articles in Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Seattle, Washington need proper location or geocoding data added to that they will appear on the Google map. I'm not totally sure how you do it. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 20:03, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and suggested a date and time:
- Date and start time:
- Starting point: Oddfellows Cafe & Bar in Oddfellows Hall.
- 8AM might seem kind of early, but I actually think getting out there at sunrise when the light is good is best; that's probably what I'll do. This doesn't rule out an after party; possibly somewhere north of the Ship Canal for those who missed the morning thing, either because it was too early for them, or they had to work, or they don't get downtown much. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 21:11, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
- I for one probably can't do this if it's happening on a workday. I might be able to get a day off, but why on earth not on a weekend? - Jmabel | Talk 18:17, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- By all means, suggest a date. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 19:02, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- Probably less an issue for me than for most, since I'm taking photos like this all the time, but is there any reason to think a weekday will get more people than a weekend? - Jmabel | Talk 02:40, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
- I can get just about any day to work for me. What about Saturday the 15th? I think the larger issue might be finding an organizer who can create a list with code numbers for the contest, then collect all the photos and score them. I've been reading the various pages on Wikipedia Takes America and the Loves Monuments project and whatnot and the mechanics of it is rather involved. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 22:54, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
- Same here, but I think the premise is that the contest will drive participation. I've never been involved in one before so I don't really know. If it didn't look so time-intensive and complicated, I'd go ahead and be the organizer. Anyway, if it does turn out that nobody is willing run the contest, we should still do a meetup and take as many photos as we can.
I've removed the people and bands from the requested photos category and come up with this list. I'm checking each article for coordinates now so they will show up on the map. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 23:58, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Interest in talking about Wikidata?
Hey :)
Denny will likely be in Seattle in the last week of April. If there is interest in talking about Wikidata on your side please let me know and we can try to arrange something together. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 13:59, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
Possibly a different time?
This is head-on with MOHAI's monthly Seattle History pub trivia night at the Wurst Place in South Lake Union. - Jmabel | Talk 00:53, 12 April 2013 (UTC)
- Anybody want to move it to second Tuesday of the month? That works for me. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 01:59, 12 April 2013 (UTC)
- I'd certainly be more likely to make that in May or July, though I will miss June in any case. - Jmabel | Talk 16:46, 12 April 2013 (UTC)
- I updated the outreach information to indicate that the second Wednesday of any given month is the day. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:04, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Pride
Are there any Seattle residents interested in participating in Wiki Loves Pride 2014, a multi-national effort to improve coverage of LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects? Perhaps an edit-a-thon or a photography project? Please visit the project page for details or let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! --Another Believer (Talk) 17:37, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
Greetings, Seattle Wikinic
Hi All! I'm a native Washingtonian (from Mount Vernon) that currently does Wiki stuff in New York and with Wikimedia NYC. I will be in Seattle for the July Wikinic and am looking forward to meeting some Seattle Wikipedians. I hope to talk to you more about Seattle Wikipedia activities at the meetup as I am very interested in the proposed Wikimedia Cascadia Usergroup! If you want to sign on as a founding member of Wikimedia Cascadia (or whatever we will call it!) go to meta:Talk:Cascadia Wikimedians#Sign on to be a Founding Member of Cascadia Wikimedians and contribute to the discussion. Weekly co-editing
Hey,
This is an idea that I have been kicking around for a while. I wanted to talk about last meetup, but I had to go early and did not get a chance to raise the issue.
Would any one be interested in a weekly co-editing session? Not an outreach project, just a day and time where people could stop by to edit, chat, relax and have community.
I would mostly be taking responsibility for this. I would make the commitment to be somewhere at a certain time every week with a Wikipedia sign (and if no one else shows up, that is just how I normally edit Wikipedia then...). But, to set the initial day and time I would like to find at least one other person who could make it.
I work remotely and thus have lots of free time, and I live in cap hill: so, something like 1:00-3:00pm Wednesday at the main branch library would be the perfect thing for me. But I imagine not a lot of people could make that, so something like Saturday 1:00-3:00pm in the U District would be acceptable for me as well. 66.235.3.210 (talk) 21:41, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Photos from last meetup
Hi all! I've finally uploaded the rest of the photos (besides the group photo on the meetup page) from the last meetup. You can see them on Flickr. I'll upload them to Commons in about a week (without identifying anyone, except Mako since he's got his own category and all). In the meantime, if anyone would like me to remove a portrait of them from the set, just let me know.--ragesoss (talk) 05:04, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

Glenn Fleishman article deleted
The article on Glenn Fleishman was deleted. He's blogging and tweeting about it -- insisting he doesn't care, but still has a lot of time to complain. There's a gamergate hatchet job conspiracy theory. I think *maybe* there's enough to resurrect the article, if you're so inclined. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 03:59, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

Community Wishlist Survey 2019
I'm sure Seattleites, have know limitations of attracting local groups with our software, limited to watchlist notices. In 2016, WM-NYC filed a task to allow CentralNotice (the banners on top of article pages) to target readers in local areas. Efforts have stalled and to spur progress it would be great if you could support it in the Community Wishlist Survey. Voting ends November 30.
An example, CentralNotices were ran for Wikipedia's 10th birthday. WM-NYC had to cut pre-registration early, unable to accommodate the shear number of people signing up. Subsequent birthdays had at most 1/10 the RSVPs. — Dispenser 11:49, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
Seattle/PNW COVID-19 Resources Wiki
Hi friends, as you can imagine, there are a lot of folx in a panic at the moment with the statewide shutdown of schools, bars, restaurants, public places, etc. There's a lot of info floating online about available resources, unemployment, sliding scale offers from the community, but they're pretty scattered across Facebook posts, groups, and websites. Though its been a few years since I've tinkered on this platform, I created new Wiki on by shared hosting space to help bring these resources together and definitely need some help with contributions, as I'm working on it while still working on day job. Please share far and wide, this is meant to be 100% community-driven. https://www.readysetassist.org/wiki/index.php

Soliciting comments and suggestions about a new venue for our meetups
Hi, all! Since most coffeehouses are still operating with reduced hours in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, we need to determine somewhere where we can gather. I have given up on an evening venue & am thinking that Saturday or Sunday afternoons would be better.
I am going to suggest the Gathering Space at KEXP-FM. During the weekend days that I have visited, it seems like they have ample space, plus there is a Caffè Vita location there & KEXP's live-streamed music at a volume conducive to conversation. KEXP is located at 472 1st Ave N, Seattle WA 98109 in the northwestern end of Seattle Center. Peaceray (talk) 21:02, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- The location sounds nice but unfortunately I work almost all Saturday and Sunday afternoons. (t · c) buidhe 21:05, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- I do not have a solution for that, since weekday evenings have proved problematic. I think most, like me, are unavailable during typical workday hours. @Buidhe: do you work during federal holidays as well?
- Once coffeehouses stay open later, we can switch back to weekday evenings. I see switching to a weekend as temporary. Peaceray (talk) 21:32, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- The location is a bit inconvenient (requiring either a slow bus ride or monorail + walk from downtown), but would be neat as a temporary venue. Long-term I'd be in favor of a weeknight location north of the Ship Canal or closer to Link light rail due to the difficulty in reaching downtown most days of the week. Starting later this year, there will be significantly more weekend construction on I-5 that would hamper my ability to attend. SounderBruce 01:53, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
- The only location I could find that meets Peaceray's suggestions and SounderBruce's recommendations is the Jewel Box Cafe at Thornton Place (adjacent to both Northgate Stations (mall and transit station)) in Northgate. I wouldn't mind visiting KEXP as a one-off thing, but I would prefer a location closer to I-5 or Link light rail considering the heavy congestion on main arterial roads during rush hour; it would be especially convenient for me once the Lynnwood Link Extension opens next year (hopefully). CascadeUrbanite (talk) 03:18, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
- Excellent suggestion. It's a little on the small size seating-wise, but ticks a lot of boxes (including a 9 pm close time Wednesday thru Sunday). SounderBruce 03:32, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
- The location looks great — a five minute walk from the light rail. Small is okay. The most we had last year was around six people. We will need to switch to a different day — perhaps Wednesday evenings would be good.
- How soon do we want to start? I have a meeting on the the 15th & will be away during Presidents' Day week, but that should not stop anyone.
- I still would like to have a couple of one-offs on the weekends, perhaps around Women's History Month & WP:Wiki Loves Pride/2023. I am thinking that Capitol Hill might be better than KEXP because there is a light rail station there. Is anyone familiar with or have a relationship with the cafés there? Peaceray (talk) 05:31, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

Potential edit-a-thon themes and ideas
- Seattle articles by importance or popularity (as determined by pageviews, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Seattle/Popular pages)
- Main topic articles, such as those linked in Template:Seattle
- Seattle Center places, events, and people
SounderBruce 03:00, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- That last item on SounderBruce's list reminds me that the Seattle International Film Festival is headquartered at the Seattle Center. That article could use some attention before this year's festival May 9–19. Peaceray (talk) 19:43, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
Location for future meetups
Would this place work? I've never been to the cafe but the bookstore is awesome, it's just a couple blocks from the Capitol Hill light rail station, and they do table reservations. (t · c) buidhe 05:07, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- Regarding Little Oddfellows, it seems that their reservations page is only meant for their main cafe next door, which closes at 3:30 PM on Mondays and Tuesdays; it closes at 9 PM on all other days. We could try to meet at the Elliott Bay Book Company store itself, but they don't do table reservations as far as I'm aware of. If we're willing to move the meet to another day, I'm fine meeting at the main cafe; if not, I still think the Jewel Box Cafe in Northgate would be the best option for us on Tuesday evenings. CascadeUrbanite (talk) 05:37, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, I started with Little Oddfellows in the Elliot Bay Book Company since I was already familiar with it. I called around & found that I needed to reserve a table directly with Little Oddfellows by phone (206-323-1511). I made a reservation for Tuesday, March 19th from 6–8pm for a table of six.
- Since I have been parking at Bainbridge, taking the ferry as a passenger, then using the light rail, Capitol Hill is more convenient for me. Also, Capitol Hill is more central in Seattle (I have walked there from downtown & it is a 1.5 mile walk from the ferry), so I think it makes a better choice. I have met there for another meet up, have eaten there several times & edited using their WiFi. I like the place.
- The Capitol Hill light rail station is 0.4 miles (0.64 km) away from the bookstore. Mass transit that serves the Capitol Hill station includes the First Hill Streetcar & the 8, 9, 10, 43, 49, 60 busses. The First Hill Streetcar & the 2, 11, 49, & 60 busses all travel within 1½ blocks of Elliott Bay Book Company.
- I will hold off on posting this to our meetup page until I get consensus here. Peaceray (talk) 19:36, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- It would be easier for me to get to the Capitol Hill location, but as stated above I could transport myself to either. (t · c) buidhe 03:54, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- I'm also fine with a location on Capitol Hill. Is it larger than Jewel Box? SounderBruce 06:30, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- Capitol Hill is fine with me. I wonder if they allow reservations via email or directly at the location; I can imagine their phone availability being dependent on how much traffic they have there during the day. CascadeUrbanite (talk) 05:37, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
Date for a Seattle Wicnic
I am suggesting one of the following days:
- Saturday 8/10
- Sunday 8/11
- Saturday 8/17
- Sunday 8/18
Does anyone have thoughts? Last year we did it on Saturday, August 5, 2023, 12–3pm in the Washington Park Arboretum. I suggest we keep the same time & place. Peaceray (talk) 22:35, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- I won't be able to make any of the Saturdays for sure, and may be able to do Sunday. (t · c) buidhe 23:04, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
Will there be a meeting in Oregon in the future?
Thank you, -- Ooligan (talk) 23:00, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- Ooligan We are all living in Western Washington so it is not possible to switch our meeting location to Oregon. However, I'm sure there are Oregon based Wikipedians who might be interested in a meetup. Be the change you want to see in the world! We got unprecedented participation with a geo-fenced watchlist notification so I suggest you try that if you'd like to organize your own meetup. (t · c) buidhe 03:44, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Buidhe, thank you for the reply. What is and how could I do a "geo-fenced watchlist notification?" -- Ooligan (talk) 17:15, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- Ooligan, it is probably better to discuss this on the Portland meetup talk page, so I started a thread, WT:Meetup/Portland § 2025 meetups?.
- Geo-fencing refers to the Wikipedia:Geonotice function. You can find examples for the Portland area at Wikipedia:Geonotice/Old requests/2024 § Wikipedia:Meetup/Portland/Jewish Women Artists 2024 and Wikipedia:Geonotice/Old requests/2022 § Wikipedia:Meetup/Portland/Social/October 2022. Since I became an administrator early last month, I can implement Geonotice requests. Peaceray (talk) 20:02, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

I have not scheduled a meetup for Tue January 21, 2025
I have not scheduled a meetup for Tue January 21, 2005 2025 because I will be in Utah for Sundance 2025 & since we have Seattle's Wikipedia Day scheduled for January 11. If someone else wants to schedule one, please do so! Peaceray (talk) 18:44, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
Wikipedia Day virtual?
I may not be able to make it in person today. Will there be a virtual/remote event for Seattle? ☆ Bri (talk) 21:14, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry I didn't see this until this evening, a virtual option would have been nice as I was unable to make it into Seattle today. Sarsenet (talk) 05:26, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Bri and Sarsenet: I am sorry, but with traveling from Port Townsend, preparing for the intro to Wikipedia presentation, baking the Wikipedia cake, & picking up water, cups, plates, & utensils, I just did not have the bandwidth to set this up a video conference link. We also were using the monitor for the intro to Wikipedia the entire tune, so we would have had to prepare a separate set up for the more experienced editing that was going on. Maybe we can consider this for the future. Peaceray (talk) 22:15, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
Any objection to moving April's meetup to the 22nd?
Requesting we move the May meetup to the 13th & draft of 2024 Seattle International Film Festival article
Hi, I was wondering if we can move the May meetup to the 13th. I know this is the second month in a row that I am asking for a reschedule, but I rarely do this. The Seattle International Film Festival runs from May 15–25, & I have a pass for the festival.
Speaking of the festival, as part of my work on the SIFF articles, I have created Draft:2024 Seattle International Film Festival that is modeled on 2024 Sundance Film Festival. As of this comment, I have corrected the Wikilinks & added templates in the Narrative features section from A Journey in Spring through The Extortion. Improvements to the draft & suggestions on the talk page are welcome. I hope to have other post-COVID years created & launched by the time the festival starts, but after I get the 2024 draft in better shape I will turn my attention to the SIIF article itself. Peaceray (talk) 06:04, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Good with me! Enjoy SIFF. I might attend as well, one of my friends saw director Vera Drew speak there last year and loved it. Sarsenet•he/they•(talk) 05:27, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
- I will unfortunately be unable to make it on the 13th. Perhaps we could try a non-Tuesday this time around? SounderBruce 18:35, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
Photo walk
@SounderBruce and RiverLongAndFar: we were talking about doing some sort of photo walk either in or near Seattle. (We haven't done one here since the pandemic.) My schedule is largely open (or at least flexible) the next few months except for being unavailable roughly July 29 through August 6. I'm guessing others have a much more scheduled life, and that only certain times of day / days of the week work for them. Can you give me some parameters?
Anyone else interested is also very welcome to chime in. I'd also welcome thoughts on what might be a good place for the photo walk, preferably something "target-rich", not already well-covered, and with potential for photos of at least moderate aesthetic interest rather than just narrowly documentary. - Jmabel | Talk 20:39, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
- My Saturdays in July are fairly packed (due to a lot of festivals and other events outside of the city), so I can't say with confidence I would be available for them. I do have weekday availability, especially the afternoon of July 8 and 9, where I will be in town for a soccer watch party but otherwise don't have any other obligations. SounderBruce 00:48, 21 June 2025 (UTC)
Tentatively Tuesday July 8, 1:30 p.m. Sign here if you're up for it; suggestions of location very welcome.
- Jmabel | Talk 18:38, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- Peaceray (talk) 20:49, 26 June 2025 (UTC) — noting that I have a WikiConference NA programming committee call at 11am; I will try to get into Seattle beforehand so that I can do both.
- I would not be able to make a 1:30 pm start, but 2 pm works just fine (depending on the outcome of the Club World Cup game). It should be over by 2 pm, and I can head out to just about anywhere around downtown by transit or bike. SounderBruce 04:33, 28 June 2025 (UTC)
Comment: I believe Bruce had earlier suggested new buildings in Downtown and Belltown, which is reasonable. Another possibility is the Elliott Bay waterfront from about Pier 62 on north; we have far fewer pictures there than south of that. - Jmabel | Talk 18:38, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- I'd enjoy the waterfront, new buildings are great but getting good pictures of them can be tricky if they are tall. (t · c) buidhe 03:19, 28 June 2025 (UTC)

It sounds like to accommodate Bruce, we should start slightly later. Tuesday, July 8, 2025; 2:30pm. Meet at Pike Place Market as directly as possible under the clock. - Jmabel | Talk 17:34, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- I get off work at 2:30 in Kent but maybe I canjoin up partway through. (t · c) buidhe 17:47, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- Starting at 2:30 pm works for me. SounderBruce 04:42, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hoping to see you there today! Jmabel | Talk 18:48, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
@SounderBruce and Peaceray: if/when you upload photos from this, make sure to use Commons:Category:Cascadia Wikimedians July 2025 Seattle photo walk besides any topical categories. - Jmabel | Talk 19:25, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
Museum photography & GIMP processing
Hi, we had briefly discussed some at the Cascadia Wikimedians general membership meeting about Jmabel possibly giving a workshop on editing with GIMP, particularly for photos of public domain works in museums.
I would like to propose a two part workshop.
- Photographing works at the Seattle Art Museum, in particular:
- SAM on Paper: Rembrandt’s Etchings: This would give us a chance to add an Etchings by Rembrandt in the Seattle Art Museum category to commons:Category:Etchings by Rembrandt.
- Portrait of Alexander J. Cassatt: A portrait of the American railroad executive Alexander J. Cassatt painted by his sister, Mary Cassatt, the Impressionist painter. This particular painting may present a challenge as it is under glass & reflecting light.
- Processing the images with the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP)
Peaceray (talk) 05:22, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- Largely OK with that, but the GIMP session should probably not be confined to using GIMP for museum photography. I'd like people to be able to bring in anything that they might need to post-process in any manner, so we can take up a fuller range of how GIMP can be used. - Jmabel | Talk 17:23, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
Washington Park Arboretum alternate contact for Wikinic 2025
If we haven't received a response from Seattle Parks and Recreation yet regarding a reservation at the Washington Park Arboretum for this year's Wikinic, I think it may be worthwhile to contact the University of Washington Botanic Gardens about it if not already attempted since they apparently operate the arboretum jointly with Seattle Parks (according to their website). I did notice that the Seattle Parks online reservation system only shows the sports fields as an option within the arboretum, so there may be a jurisdiction issue that could be hopefully clarified by UW before the Wikinic if we reach out to them via their website's listed contacts. CascadeUrbanite (talk) 04:17, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Pinging Peaceray, Jmabel, SounderBruce for potential interest. CascadeUrbanite (talk) 00:06, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- @CascadeUrbanite: Seattle Parks & Recreation is responsible for issuing permits. They have been unresponsive to my last two emails. Therefore I am not pursuing anything further with them. Our numbers have been & most likely will be below the radar. We just need to show up early enough to grab one or both picnic tables, which is what we have done every year that we have had our picnic there. Peaceray (talk) 00:17, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
Latest mass message has an old timestamp
The latest "Wikimedia events in Seattle" message sent out Saturday has a two year old timestamp (see ), which caused it to be archived this morning for talk pages with archiving active. Niceguyedc (talk) 20:30, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for letting us know. Yes, that was my mistake as I neglected to change the timestamp. Peaceray (talk) 00:52, 27 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Niceguyedc: Thanks again for notifying us. I used WP:AutoWikiBrowser to correct unarchived talk pages & sent a fresh mass message to the eight users whose archiving had already moved it. Peaceray (talk) 05:34, 27 October 2025 (UTC)

Anyone able to take a photo at the Seattle Art Museum?
Hi all, I've been working on the article serpent labret with articulated tongue, which includes a gallery of related labrets. The Seattle Art Museum holds another example (link), but has not responded to a request to license its images. Is there any chance someone lives nearby and might be able to take a photo? I'm planning on nominating the article at FAC shortly, and am trying to make it as complete as possible beforehand. Thanks, --Usernameunique (talk) 22:56, 15 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Usernameunique: Hi, that depends whether it is on display or not. For pictures, the object itself would certainly be in the public domain, but the SAM pictures themselves would presumably be under copyright by Elizabeth Mann. I am intermittently in Seattle; perhaps there may be others who can check. Otherwise I will eventually get to get to the appropriate gallery to see if it is on display. Peaceray (talk) 00:20, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks, Peaceray. I agree regarding copyright (although assuming Mann was acting in the scope of her employment, presumably the museum itself holds the copyright over the images). You're also right that the page doesn't say if the labret is on display or not, although the museum does consider it a highlight, so I would expect it to be unless it's on loan. --Usernameunique (talk) 16:10, 19 February 2026 (UTC)
- Usernameunique, I may be able to go by on the next free admission First Thursday in March, if no one is able to get around to it before then. Sarsenet•he/they•(talk) 01:47, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks, Sarsenet! That would be much appreciated. I'll try to remember to ping you around the end of next week. --Usernameunique (talk) 01:53, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Usernameunique and Sarsenet: I stopped by the pre-Columbian gallery at SAM this afternoon, & the labret was not on display. The front desk could not tell me anything more than what was on the object’s page at art.seattleartmuseum.org. Peaceray (talk) 22:25, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- Peaceray, thanks so much for taking a look! That's surprising, and a shame. I'll guess I'll try emailing them again... --Usernameunique (talk) 01:10, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- That sucks, thanks for checking in at the museum Peaceray. Usernameunique, is there any other art I can grab photos of for you? Sarsenet•he/they•(talk) 07:43, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- That's the only item I was looking for, Sarsenet, but I appreciate the offer. Cheers, --Usernameunique (talk) 15:50, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
