TemplateData needed at Template:Annotation/doc

Can someone please add TemplateData to this template, which has 1,300 transclusions? Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:50, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

Automatic Modernised WoRMS References

(I've been directed here from Template talk:Cite WoRMS)

Hi, I've been working with WoRMS a lot recently and I noticed that when using the automatic citation tool (built-in to the Visual Editor) the citation inserted is technically wrong/outdated and has to be modernised (See examples in the linked discussion). Is there a way to update the relevant template so it automatically inserts the modernised reference?

Shame, i was going to inquire on the same problem. The issue here is that the automatic template provided doesn't ask for a title (very important), does not list the possible databases that it might pull from, and does not provide an automated access date. I've added template data for Cite WoRMS. Plantdrew (talk) 01:19, 10 July 2025 (UTC)

Debugging The "Cite web" template doesn't yet have a description, but there might be some information on the template's page.

Apologies if this isn't the right place to ask this question.

My wiki (MediaWiki 1.43.6) has imported the Template:Cite web (and underlying templates/modules). We recently refreshed the template and documentation subpage.

When using the Visual Editor and trying to cite a website we get "The "Cite web" template doesn't yet have a description, but there might be some information on the template's page."

Following the link the TemplateData section looks correct. Editing the Template:Cite web/doc (section) shows the Edit template data button followed by Information about template data which seems to confirm the TemplateData is correctly being recognized.

Are there any further debugging techniques that might help me get to the bottom of why the Visual Editor doesn't see the TemplateData and thinks the template doesn't yet have a description.? Peculiar Investor (talk) 20:30, 19 January 2026 (UTC)

The link to http://www.finiki.lan/wiki/Template:Cite_web tells me "We can’t connect to the server at www.finiki.lan." – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:22, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
Apologies. I copied the link from my testing environment. The wiki is at www.finiki.org and the corrected link is "The "Cite web" template doesn't yet have a description, but there might be some information on the template's page." Peculiar Investor (talk) 00:05, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
@Jonesey95 I have updated the link to correct my error.
To everyone else, any tips or tricks to help debug this would be most appreciated. Citing references is a significant part of editing a wiki and this makes it much harder when using the Visual Editor. Peculiar Investor (talk) 16:25, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
I don't know why it would be showing that message for a template that appears to have a TemplateData section in its documentation. Maybe one of your parameters see the list in the right sidebar here is not set correctly. I would ask for help on the talk page for that MediaWiki extension page. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:01, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
Thanks. I have taken the suggestion and asked for help in this discussion on the MediaWiki extension page. Peculiar Investor (talk) 13:42, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
On the MediaWiki discussion page it was suggested to use a null edit because TemplateData sometimes caches data too aggressively. That has indeed resolved the problem. Peculiar Investor (talk) 14:04, 14 February 2026 (UTC)
