Perth Glory interim coach

Do we think Adam Griffiths should be updated (in infobox etc) as interim coach for Perth Glory? Or only if the club publishes an official press release appointing him as interim coach? Right now I can find sources: "It’s expected that Glory assistant coach Adam Griffiths will take charge of Perth for Friday night’s home clash against Melbourne Victory following Tuesday’s sacking of Zdrilic after just two rounds of the new A-League season" and "Adam Griffiths will stand on the touchline at HBF Park as a temporary coach for the match against Victory". --SuperJew (talk) 11:50, 31 October 2025 (UTC)

Just wait. No hurry. Matilda Maniac (talk) 12:30, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
What are you suggesting to wait for? For the club to officially appoint him as interim coach? Or for? --SuperJew (talk) 13:01, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
The club seems to have done so now; he's expected to be still in the interim role for at least the next home game, before a final decision is made for the new coach. Matilda Maniac (talk) 05:49, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
I missed the announcement and can't find it. Could you link to it please? --SuperJew (talk) 18:42, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
The announcement was made at the game, not via a press release.Matilda Maniac (talk) 22:46, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
Ah, I understand. How would you suggest to source it then? --SuperJew (talk) 00:47, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
I wouldnt. (WP:OR). I would just wait until theres either an announcement from PGFC, or better a secondary source referring to him now as Interim. I'm sure when theres a new coach announced they will thank Adam for his role as interim coach. He's probably a bit lean on experience to get the job at this point, but who knows if anyone decent will a) want the role and b) be available at short notice. Ange Postecoglou is free, how awesome would that be for my club? Matilda Maniac (talk) 02:57, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
If the club announced it, doesn't sound to me like original research. The question though is it sourcable (probably not). Though I see the most recent match report says With Adam Griffiths in interim charge following the departure of Head Coach David Zdrilic earlier in the week - what do you think?
Tbh your club seems a bit of a basketcase lately, I hope for you that something sorts out there. John Aloisi was offerred the job and he turned it down. Personally, I doubt Ange would take it (or return to coach in the A-League Men at all). --SuperJew (talk) 08:30, 2 November 2025 (UTC)

Socceroos at 2026 World Cup

Which page should we place the matches? 2025–26 in Australian soccer or 2026–27 in Australian soccer? The issue is that they're starting in June, but hopefully will continue into July. --SuperJew (talk) 11:55, 7 December 2025 (UTC)

No problem with duplicating in both articles as a relevant strategy, much as you did for the U-20s for the UEFA Friendship Cup competition which also straddled June and July this year. I'll be in San José on 25th June with the Green and Gold Army, DESPERATELY hoping the Socceroos will be playing in July! Matilda Maniac (talk) 14:25, 7 December 2025 (UTC)
I'd probably leave in 25-26 for now (at least until we know if we make R32), could always either duplicate or add a note linking to the other page if we do end up with some games in July. Looks like existing practice is just to leave all comp in earlier season (e.g., 2017–18 in English football). Macosal (talk) 23:44, 7 December 2025 (UTC)
Thanks Macosal and Matilda Maniac! I added it in. And enjoy the games Tilds! Hope the Socceroos put on a good show for you :) --SuperJew (talk) 07:51, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
Let's first clarify that the seasonal articles' only form of classification between intra or inter-years for these articles (and categories) is based on the highest division of that country (e.g. the A-Leagues run through inter-years, so we use that as the classification). In this case, for any events that aren't played on the same basis or can't be classified by season, insert them based on where it falls in the calendar year (e.g. Jan 1 to Dec 31 for intra-years, and Jul 1 to Jun 30 for inter-years). Australian Championship and NPL

Despite the initial beliefs that we got through determining the status of what the Australian Championship is, I won't 100% confirm it as I've noticed their and the NPL's Twitter bios read:

  • Australian Championship: "The official account of the #AusChampionship - Australia’s second tier represented by 16 clubs playing in a ‘Champions League’ format."
  • National Premier Leagues: "The National Premier Leagues (#NPL) is the national third-tier competition in Australia which underpins the @AusChampionship".

Now I know we didn't have to necessarily classify the Championship as a league and keep classifying the NPL as the second-tier league, but I after a dilemma I've had regarding struggles with determining what is and isn't a league based on the OFC Pro League, I feel we should re-visit this talk of us considering the Championship as a second-tier league despite its format telling us otherwise. We always seem to cherry-pick things from X, even through it is well known to be unreliable as a source for an encyclopedia. It's just marketing; no action required. Matilda 13:28, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
@Matilda Maniac: Fair point, but regardless of that and after making a deeper research than initially before by looking at the Australian Championship FAQs and this ESPN article, I would confidently say that we've got it wrong. The format of the competition (by it not being the traditional round-robin tournament all round) made us think otherwise and after going through this discussion myself, I have my mind completely changed. It was clear that Football Australia intended on making this an official new second tier on the pyramid. "The NST was established to strengthen Australia's football pyramid, offering a national platform for iconic clubs and bridging the gap between local and national competitions." The ESPN article even clarifies that "Initially, Football Australia had announced plans to stage a standalone, home-and-away competition, which was the preferred option of the participating clubs." So regardless of format, they are officially classifying this is the second tier in the pyramid. In fact, that part of the Australian pyramid is similar to the New Zealand pyramid where their second divisions (Northern, Central, and Southern League) are used as qualifiers for their first division the National League, similar how to the third-tier NPL are qualifiers for the new second-tier Australian Championship. But obviously I won't make any changes (especially after my initial doubts), otherwise I'd be in trouble. Which is why I wanted more discussion on this. FastCube (talk) 14:49, 31 March 2026 (UTC)
