The article Bitard is about to be deleted; see the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bitard. I have a feeling that this student organization or tradition is notable and should be retained in Wikipedia. But the article is so poorly written it is impossible to tell. Could someone from this project please take a look at it, clean up the writing, and add references to show that it is notable? Since early in 2010, many editors have assisted in the referencing or removal of over 90% of the Unreferenced Biographies of Living People, bringing the total down from over 50,000 to the current 4,862 (as of 16:12, 1 June 2011 (UTC)). Thank you for all of the work you've done to date, but we are now asking for your help in finishing this task. There are two main projects which are devoted to removing UBLPs from en.Wikipedia:

• WP:URBLP has set up a large number of topic based lists, which are updated each day by a WP:BOT. Your project's list is located at Wikipedia:WikiProject France/Unreferenced BLPs and currently contains 69 articles.
• WP:URBLPR is focusing on clearing out the backlog based on the month in which each article was tagged as being unreferenced. The current task is Category:Unreferenced BLPs from September 2009, and it is the last month remaining from 2009.
• You can also reference a random article or make your own lists using one of the catscan tools, such as this search for French musicians.

All you have to do is pick your articles and then add suitable references from reliable sources and remove the {{BLP unsourced}} template. There is no need to log your changes, register or remove the articles from the list. If you need any help, or have any comments, please ask at WP:URBLPR or WT:URBLP.

The biography states that the painter never married, though he had a close relationship with a woman he allowed for in his will. Yet in the section about the distribution of his art collection of works by the impressionists, it states that they became the responsibility of the widow of Caillebotte's son. I ran across the term pinard somewhere years ago and put it on my WP "to do" list. Apparently it's a French military term for wine, kind of akin in sentiment to "grog". A previous version was deleted in 2009 per WP:NOTDICT, but I think there's enough cultural context around pinard as a concept, not just a word, to justify an article (and fr.wiki seems to quite agree). I've put together a pretty basic version just based on English sources on GoogleBooks and an image from fr:Pinard (vin). If anyone is keen on this and speaks French, I'm sure much more could be said, though the fr.wiki version as it stands is just too flowery/sentimental/inside-jokey to pass en.wiki WP:TONE standards. I would like to see if it would be possible to have a Wikipedia page for my new book, 'The 'Hidden Parks of Paris 2014'?' The book was written in Paris last year and will be published by a Parisian publisher, Éditions L'improviste. I am under the impression from previous submissions from fellow writers that it is quite difficult to have a Wikipedia entry page for a work of art, such as a book, and am wondering how I can go about creating a page for my book and not having it removed from Wikipedia. I would like to also update the Wikipedia pages for the various parks in Paris, including photos that I would upload with full permissions. Please let me know if I can create a Wikipedia page for my book when you have a chance, as I think it would be a good tool for those interested in obtaining further information on the parks of Paris, and to also help in the recognition of my book, which is being published by a small, independent publisher.

• My recommendation is to wait until your book gets two reviews from publications independent of you and/or your company. Once there are multiple reviews (they can be in any language) post the citation information for the reviews on the WikiProject France talk page so that Wikipedians may use those reviews as sources for the article. I'm afraid they don't exist... Le Monde has an online archive service, but you have to pay. Only newspapers issued before 1940 are available online for free - through the Gallica portal. You can still use their search feature, but with limited results.JoB 35 (talk) 22:10, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

With reference to the attendance in the World cup Foot-ball Finals, I would like to have a clarification. I believe there are a couple of errors in this article - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-Romain,_Charente

It states that St Romain is north-east of Aubeterre, but it is almost due west - is there another St Romain in 16347 code?

I think the image of the town hall is also incorrect - it didn't look like that when I was there in May (again, do I have the right commune?) - I'm sorry, I didn't take a photo.

The population figure seems rather high.

If you check Google Earth, you will see what I mean.

Hello, I've a question about infobox homogeneity .

What is the convention to fill the flag and shield parameters of Template:Infobox French region? Do we need to use the national flag as in Martinique or Guadeloupe, or the emblems of the region, as in Alsace, Brittany and others? Or nothing as in Île-de-France, where only the reg_logo is filled? Opinions differ.

Hello, I have a quick question about the 1958 Natonal Assembly elections. Did they only occur in "Metropolitan" France, or also in the overseas territories? For some reason, in African MPs' biographies, there does not appear to be any figures for 1958 elections for MPs representing African territories (but there are for all previous elections - see e.g. Sourou Apithy. Following this link : www.assemblee-nationale.fr/elections/historique-3 (Sièges pourvus par nomination : anciennes colonies d'Afrique noire 23) 23 députés were nominated, from the anciennes colonies d'Afrique noire.

The link you provide : Sourou Apithy. 30/11/1958 - 15/07/1959. It was a prolongation of his previous mandate. So, Sourou Apithy was nominated député because he was previously (in 1956) elected deputé and... the independences of all the african colonies where already planned.

From the 2nd paragraph in fr:Liste des députés de la Ire législature de la Cinquième République : « Elle a été marquée par le maintien en fonction jusqu'au 15 juillet 1959 des 33 députés des Territoires d'outre-mer élus précédemment » Automated translation : it was marked by the retention until 15 July 1959, 33 members of the Overseas Territories previously elected

What I can't understand, is a problem of numbers; 33, 23... it's not very clear.

TLTR: In short (and except Algeria, the Comores...) the elections did not occur in the overseas territories.

I edited the Black African Students Association in France/FEANF page recently. Added a few paragraphs about what tangible results their efforts brought about (housing specifically for African students studying in France, funding for various cultural endeavors). I also thought that it would be a good idea to add a section about the French response to the FEANF/Francophone West African student movement, since they didn't exist in a vortex and needed the funding and approval of the French administrators to enact change. Louis Thiroux de Crosne was the chief of Police of Paris up until his execution during the Reign of Terror in 1794. He is therefore a semi important figure in French history. I found his article at Category:Articles_lacking_sources_from_October_2006 and as a member of the Abandoned Articles WikiProject, I am attempting to expand on it.

Can anyone here recommend categorisation as well as potential interested parties who may be able to lend a hand, particularly French speaking ones. Thank you

Late last year this user moved a whole chunk of people from "of Valois" to "of France". I have corrected Catherine of Valois since she is clearly better known by this name. I don't know enough about any of the others to be sure about, but given the blatant wrongness of the Catherine move (unless there was some discussion I was unable to find), it's probably worth checking. I cheched the French Wikipedia versions, there also a lot of people who have been well-known as "De Valois" since several centuries, out of the blue have been renamed as "Of France"... I have just written a first pass at an article on Jacques Lebaudy, an eccentric French millionaire who in 1903 tried to found an empire on the Moroccan coast. I'm sure there are much better sources on him and his "Empire" in French - there is a recent French biography of him, for instance - but I don't read French. Perhaps someone here might want to expand his article, or write one on his "Empire"? (It is just a redirect at the moment.) The Lebaudy family as a whole seems like it might be worthy of more coverage in English - there is an article on the family in the French Wikipedia, and much of interest to write about them. I just tweaked the lede a little. I'm not quite sure what happened to Lebaudy's "Empire"; it is mentioned that he was in London in October 1903, but whether his hired men had abandoned their camp in Morocco by that time, I don't know. My feeling is that any actual presence on the ground was probably abandoned by October 1903, but I don't know for sure. The sources I can find so far are vague and contradictory. This isn't my area at all so I thought I'd just raise the subject. What exactly is the status of the new Metropolis of Lyon (formerly Urban Community of Lyon) following the recent reorganisation, and how does that follow through to Wikipedia organisation like stub types? Is it equivalent to a département or subsidiary to it? And even if it is equivalent, can Wikipedia be bothered to adjust things like stub types to match, if eg La Poste isn't going to change its "département" number from 69? I only ask because I came across Grigny, Rhône which still has Rhône in its name but User:Arteronyl has removed Rhône-geo-stub in favour of a new category, Metropolis of Lyon geography stubs. It feels like one of those grey areas which probably isn't really worth the work to change but some eager beavers will change in part. From what I understand from French wikipedia and the law text they refer to, the Metropolis of Lyon has taken over all authority from the department of Rhône for its 59 member communes. It's on the same administrative level as departments (so below the region Rhône-Alpes, to which it still belongs), but it's not a department. It's a special territorial collectivity (that article needs to be updated too). Also since 1 January 2015, the communes of the Arrondissement of Lyon that didn't join the Metropolis of Lyon changed over to the Arrondissement of Villefranche-sur-Saône, these needs to be updated too. As some of you know, there is a series of articles based on ethnic minority groups in Paris, North Africans, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese. However there is one major group missing: the black Africans/sub-Saharan Africans.

I have experienced great difficulty in finding English sources about them. There may be French sources... I do not know whether they group all black African groups together (for example the sources discussing North Africans tend to discuss them as a single group and not by the individual country) or whether they discuss Ivorians, Malians, Congolese, Rwandans, etc. separately. The article scopes and titles should be dictated by what sources use.

Should the infobox state and show France's recognized minority languages. I added the minority languages in the infobox(without sources) a while ago, but then not long ago it got reverted by a user. And we ended up into a edit war, as he stated that it wasn't true. And these are the sources that states that minority languages have been added to the French constitution; Article 75-1 de la Constitution de la Cinquième République française with sources to it and . I see by fr:Redécoupage cantonal de 2014 en France that a few weeks ago the number of cantons was reduced by half. This means that the arrondissement articles, which list the cantons, ought to be updated eventually.

If that's done by a bot, I hope it won't be in the same absurd format as before, with the cantons and communes listed separately, each list meaninglessly numbered, and the communes pointlessly boxed in a table. A blueprint for France?

Hello, I am a member of the French Film Task Force. Among other things I have provided a whole lot of wikitables for the filmographies of French stars such as Alain Delon, Jean Marais etc. I have also written a number of articles on French films, occasionally even in French. Most recently I rewrote some general film articles including film director and film producer. Hereby I became aware of Luc Besson's achievements. The whole French industry seems to moan about declining exports. The whole industry? No, one single company doesn't. EuropaCorp that is. EuropaCorp with its self-confident, international approach could be a blueprint for a French resurgence in regards to exports. I mean, did Besson ever complain the Germans were too strong or something? Wasn't Constantin film earlier on so much more successful than EuropaCorp? Whenever I watch Besson's early films I wonder if he is crazy, but hey, maybe that is exactly what it takes to create a miracle. On 1 January 2016, the number of regions will be reduced from 27 to 18. I have just posted questions on Wikidata and WP-fr to determine if hierarchy data can be stored on Wikidata and then used to update infoboxes on other WP projects, including WP-en, mainly in relation to new arrondissements in Bas-Rhin and I asked if similar changes have been made in other departments. Since a bot would be needed for such changes, it seems like a good time to adjust the "region" parameter of infoboxes in regions affected by the upcoming changes. I have one question for input from others:

Should the region parameter include the new region and the former region (on separate lines)?

This would be helpful in areas where the current region is well-known and would allow the new regions to be added before the change, as well as inform readers of the upcoming change. Because they have until 1 July 2016 to choose a name, they are tentatively known by a name that combines the names of the current regions, eg. Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine. In such cases, we could use the acronym for these regions. For Strasbourg, for example: Alsace (1982-2015)...next line...ACAL (effective 1 Jan 2016). AHeneen (talk) 21:32, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

France in the American Revolutionary War has been the subject of two recent move requests (Requested move 29 January 2015, Requested move 20 August 2015), both of which have failed. Perhaps frustrated by the failure to move, but undeterred from purpose, new User:AdjectivesAreBad chose to build the created redirect into its own article. France in the ARW is a legitimate topic, has existed since 2005, and deserves improvement. Newly created Anglo-French War (1778–83) is a clear content fork, and should be deleted and redirected (or perhaps merged) to the France in the American Revolutionary War pagespace. My Greatgrandmother, Mary Ada Puryear's, family came from the area near Evreux, France; probably around Perriers-la-Campagne, to England around 1066 to 1086. They occupied the area of Saxeby in Leicester, England. The estate in 1086 was held in part by Hugh Musard, and another part appears to have passed soon after into possession of the Norman family of De Perers, who, in the person of Henry de Perers, were seated at Dalby and elsewhere in Leicester in 1086 (Domesd.) I am interested in finding more about the history of Evreux and the surrounding area before and just after the Norman invasion of England. Michael D. HISTORY The man named Contest who was later canonised as Saint Contest [or Contextus] was initially reputed to have been a hermit at Blay, who became a bishop of Bayeux between 480 and 513 AD, His name was given to the parish after the 7th century AD. The name Contextus was possibly a corruption of Conductus [one who is guided]. The extraordinarily spacious feudal church of St Contest, north west of Caen, was built in phases between the 11th and 14th centuries AD. In 1207, Gautier d'Aignaux, the lord of Saint-Contest, granted the church to the nearby Abbey of Notre Dame d’Ardenne. The gift included the fiefs of of Buron, Maslon, Bitôt and Saint-Contest. Hi! Would any of you be willing to help with Draft:Jean-François PERNETTE? The article's claims make him appear to be notable, but there aren't many sources that are available on the page. I tried performing a search but I hit a bit of a dead end since the majority of sources are in French and pre-date the Internet, so I'm getting paywalled for the majority of them. Also, I believe that the article's creator (Pipistrellus~enwiki ) primarily speaks French, so it would be nice for a French fluent editor to mentor them since I know that some of the guidelines on Wikipedia can be rather confusing even for native English speakers, to put it mildly. She seems to write well, but I'd feel better if she had someone available if she needs the help. (I'm assuming from the name that she's female, my apologies if you're not!) Currently French commune articles contain an info box. The region and department values are calculated based on the INSEE code. But the articles still contain the parameters which is confusing because if you edit them nothing happens. The user Gabriel HM recently deleted the German name from the town Saint-Louis, Haut-Rhin/Sankt Ludwig in different attempts. His main arguments were that the town is named after Louis XIV the sun king -> First deletion, which is not true since it is named after the catholic saint Louis IX (Ludwig in German), who is also a patron of many churches in Germany. In the second attempt he used the argument that there is no historical German name: This is also not true as it was the official name of the town from 1870-1918 as maps of that time show -> Map of Map of Haut-Rhin, 1890 (The town is in the lower right corner, next to Basel) The same can be found on a website focusing on German administration history. The argument that the name is not in use anymore is irrelevant but also baseless as the name can still be found in recent German sources, e.g. -> A book about Jewish history in Haut-Rhine (2004) or a book about public transport in Basel (2003) Needless to say that the deletion is a violation of the rules of WP:Places. Ok first of all I have change ONE name ONLY among hundreds, AND I've explained many times why. If I was an obsessive anti German place kind of guy I would have tried to revert many of them. And for the rest, once again, if the user could take the time to read the article about Saint Louis, he would see that he was a French King before being a Saint and the city was named in its honour by Louis XIV. So this is very frustrating to read this. Once again the German name is obsolete in this particular case, and it is not fair to use two sources that are about this history of Alsace during 1871-1918 to try to make his point. The two books even thought are published recently are about history and in any way are related to present time events. Taking a book about the history of transportation in 1871-1900 and try to make it sounds like a contemporary book by putting the date of publication is misleading. Perhaps because this movement is secessionist... The French hate regionalists.

The nationalists French of wikipedia ask NATIONAL articles for an article on REGIONAL movement. So, except terrorists or nazis-regionalists movements with nationals articles to stigmatize the regionalists violence, "no regionalist democratic movement in France" because no post at national level. LOL!

But if French stigmatize the regionalist terrorism and censure the democratic regionalism (newspapers, wikipedia, tv), there is a little article "Bastir" on the Occitan wikipedia !

"Bastir!" is not a French movement : "Bastir!" is a democratic Occitan movement present in some region of France ! why asking the wikipedia French opinion ? you should ask the opinion of the Occitan wikipedia.

Neither the French nor Occitan Wikipedias opinions are relevant, the English Wikipedia has its own policies and standards. So please can we have a definite opinion from this project about the acceptability of the sourcing of Draft:Bastir!? If the draft passes WP:RS, WP:N and WP:V please just say so, then we can get this draft out of the AFC workflow, where it is now the oldest draft in the queue. Can't the mentioned articles of newspapers and medias relating to the movement agree to this?

French wikipedia said "not famous about all France, not evocate in the French nationals newspapers"...

But "Bastir!" is not a national French movement ! it's an Occitan "regionalist" movement, only evoked in the newspapers of the Occitans regions ! well, it is evoked in Spain, in a nationalist Basc newspaper and in a nationalist newspaper of Catalonia. Well, Wikipedia French said : "only an Occitanist regionalist movement, in Catalonia or Basc country too (Catalonia and Basc Country are REGIONS of Spain), "Bastir!" is only a regionalist movement, it is not a national movement, it is not acceptable by Wikipedia France"... Well, of course, "Bastir!" in not a French national movement, and it's not evoked in All regions of France by French nationals newspapers, because "Bastir!" is an Occitanist movement : "Bastir!" is only evoked in the newspapers and medias of the Occitan Counties and in the neighbourgs regionalists newspapers (Catalonia, Basc Country).

You must judge yourself the acceptability of this article: the nature of the movement "Bastir!" is incompatible with wikipedia France (Regionalist movement : not evoked in French national press... And it will be never evoked because of its regionalist nature !). But maybe compatible for the English Wikipedia ? "Bastir!" is very evoked in regionals medias (tv and newspapers of Occitania) and a little bit in the nationalists newspapers of the neighbourgs countries (Basc and Catalonia).

I'm currently working on an article in my sandbox, for an animated short film called Le Building. The film was made in France, and while I've been able to locate several English language sources, there's one (fairly short) article about one of the filmmakers that I'd like to have translated. The website doesn't seem to give me any option for copying text, and while I suppose that I could manually type everything into Google translate, it would be nice to have a better translation to work with (Google translate's not always very good). Since the article is so short, I imagine that someone proficient in both languages could knock something out pretty quickly (it doesn't have to be perfect). But then, I've never translated anything before, so apologies if I'm underestimating the task. JP, I have no expertise in Spanish, but I can give you a decent direct translation of what's there. It should be accurate, barring any sneaky idioms. Text in <> indicates some degree of guesswork or interpretation on my part.

The trajectory of Perifel is without a doubt meteoric. While a student at Gobelins, he co-directed The Building, which quickly <found its place> as a cult film at various festivals.
After graduating in 2005, he worked on numerous films and TV series in Europe, one standout being El Ilusionista <(The Illusionist)>, a film nominated for an Oscar.
In 2008 he joined Dreamworks, where he has worked for the last six years on Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2, Monsters versus Aliens, Shrek 4 (Shrek Forever After), and Rise of the Guardians. One year after starting at Dreamworks, he received his <or the??> first Annie in the category <Character Animation>.

@Gabriel HM: @Eric: Sorry for the late response - I really appreciate the help! :) The Annie Awards are one of the most esteemed honors within the animation industry - they were first established in the 70s, long before Perifel came around; possibly even before he was born. So I can't say exactly what the text was implying. Perhaps it meant "first" as in "first place", although that would be an unusual way to put it, since the Annies never announce which of the nominees came in "second place". --Jpcase (talk) 16:59, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

In regards to Wikipedia:Files_for_discussion/2016_October_5#File:Si.C3.A8ge_SNCF_Saint-Denis.jpg I would like to review whether the images fr:Fichier:Siège SNCF Saint-Denis.jpg and File:SNCFHQParis.JPG are of buildings that are original enough to be protected under non-free FOP laws. The user on this page is saying I need to find information on how/why these buildings are original. AFAIK if they are not in fact "original" French copyrights cannot protect the images as the buildings are not original enough. A recent Forbes article stated that the Indian economy surpassed that of the UK. However, Forbes used an unconventional method to arrive at this conclusion - they took the recent 20% slump in the value of the pound, and used that exchange rate for the entire 2016 GDP of the UK. Needless to say, this method of calculating GDP is completely wrong; the IMF and World Bank (etc.) take average monthly exchange rates. However, over at the Economy of the United Kingdom, Economy of France and Economy of India articles, many (uninformed) editors are taking the Forbes article as gospel. This is bad practice and I think it better we stick to official figures as provided by the IMF, where the methodology is proper.
