The History of Imambargah Husainiya Mir Ali Shaheer Rizvi

Imambargah Husainiya Mir Ali Shaheer Rizvi Marhoom is one of the historic Shia religious institutions in Zaidpur, Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. It was founded in 1914 by Mir Ali Shaheer Rizvi, the Raees-e-Zaidpur, to serve as a center for Azadari, Majalis, and the remembrance of the sacrifice of Imam Husain (A.S.).

Mir Ali Shaheer Rizvi was the grandson of Mir Mukhlis Hussain Rizvi, a distinguished nobleman of Zaidpur. His father was Mir Ali Zaheer Rizvi. Although Mir Ali Shaheer Rizvi had no sons, the Imambargah he established has continued to preserve its religious traditions through dedicated caretakers and the local community.

A defining event in the history of the Imambargah is the karamat (miracle) that, according to local tradition, occurred on 19 December 1915. During the mourning ceremonies, water is said to have suddenly emerged from the historic Tazia kept inside the Imambargah. News of this extraordinary event spread widely, and devotees from many regions came to witness what they believed to be a divine sign connected with the love and remembrance of Imam Husain (A.S.). This event remains one of the most cherished traditions associated with the Imambargah.

According to the traditions of the Imambargah, India's first Zanjiri Matam was performed here in 1915, during the period associated with the miracle. This event is remembered by devotees as a significant milestone in the history of Azadari in the region.

The Imambargah has long been an important center of Muharram observances. Every year, the Majlis of 5th Muharram is held here with great reverence, bringing together mourners from Zaidpur and nearby areas. The historic and grand 11th Muharram Juloos also concludes at this Imambargah, making it one of the focal points of Muharram commemorations in the town.

The architecture of Imambargah Husainiya Mir Ali Shaheer Rizvi has always been admired for its beauty and traditional design. To preserve this heritage for future generations, the building entered a phase of new construction and restoration in 2024, while maintaining its historical and religious significance.

Today, the Imambargah is managed by its respected Mutawallis:
