David Parkin

David Parkin (* 5. November 1940 in Watford) ist ein britischer Ethnologe und Hochschullehrer.[1]

Leben und Wirken

David Parkin studierte von 1959 bis 1964 Ethnologie an der School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London). Dort legte er 1962 die Bachelorprüfung ab und promovierte 1965 zum Ph.D. Seit 1962 unternahm er zahlreiche ethnologische Feldforschungen in Afrika, vor allem in Uganda, Kenia und Sansibar und publiziert hierüber. Von 1964 bis 1996 war er an der SOAS als Hochschullehrer tätig, seit 1982 als Professor für "African Studies". Im Jahre 1996 wurde er Professor an der University of Oxford (All Souls College) und lehrte bis zu seiner Emeritierung im Jahre 2006. Von 2009 bis 2011 war er "Fellow" am Max-Planck-Institut zur Erforschung multireligiöser und multiethnischer Gesellschaften" in Göttingen. Im 1993 wurde David Parkin Mitglied der British Academy.[2]
