Edward Adamson Hoebel

Edward Adamson Hoebel studiert Ethnologie und Soziologie, zunächst an der University of Wisconsin-Madison und an der New York University, wo er den Bachelor- bzw. Magistergrad erwarb. Seine Promotion zum Ph.D. erfolgte 1934 an der Columbia University bei Franz Boas. Seit 1929 war er als Hochschullehrer tätig und zwar bis 1948 an der New York University, von 1948 bis 1954 an der University of Utah und schließlich bis zu seiner Emeritierung 1972 an der University of Minnesota. Gastprofessuren hatte er an der University of Arizona, der University of Oxford und der Katholischen Universität Nijmegen inne. 1957 war er Präsident der American Anthropological Association und 1946/47 der American Ethnological Society. Hauptschwerpunkt seiner Forschung und Veröffentlichungen ist die Rechtsethnologie in Bezug auf die nordamerikanischen Indianervölker.
