Fred Turner

Fred Turner (* 4. April 1961[1]) ist ein US-amerikanischer Kommunikationswissenschaftler und Professor an der Stanford University, wo er zu den Auswirkungen neuer Medientechnologien auf die amerikanische Kultur seit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg forscht.[2]
Turner machte seinen Bachelor-Abschluss in den Fächern Englisch und amerikanische Literatur 1984 an der Brown University und das Master-Examen mit denselben Fächern 1985 an der Columbia University. Danach war er als Instructor und Lecturer an verschiedenen Bostoner Hochschulen tätig (Northeastern University, Boston University, Harvard University und Massachusetts Institute of Technology). Zugleich war er von 1986 bis 1998 freier Journalist und schrieb unter anderem für The Progressive und das Sonntagsmagazin von The Boston Globe. 2002 wurde er an der University of California, San Diego zum Ph.D. im Fach Kommunikationswissenschaft promoviert. Seit 2003 lehrt und forscht er an der Stanford University, erst als Assistant Professor, ab 2010 als Associate Professor und seit 2015 als Harry and Norman Chandler Professor of Communication.[3]
