Jacqueline Jones

Jacqueline Jones (* 17. Juni 1948[1]) ist eine US-amerikanische Historikerin und emeritierte Professorin der University of Texas at Austin.[2] 2021 amtierte sie als Präsidentin der American Historical Association (AHA).[3] 2024 wurde sie für ihr Buch No right to an honest living. The struggles of Boston’s Black workers in the Civil War era mit dem Pulitzer-Preis ausgezeichnet.[4]
Werdegang
Jones machte ihren Bachelor-Abschluss 1970 an der University of Delaware und wechselte dann an die University of Wisconsin–Madison. Dort legte sie 1970 das Master-Examen ab und wurde 1976 zur Ph.D. promoviert. Am Wellesley College war sie erst Assistant Professor of History (1976–81), dann Associate Professor (1981–86) und ab 1986 schließlich Full Professor. 1991 übernahm sie eine Professur an der Brandeis University. Seite 2008 ist sie Professorin an der University of Texas in Austin, inzwischen als Emerita.[5]
Für ihr 1985 veröffentlichtes Buch Labor of Love, Labor of Sorrow: Black Women, Work, and the Family from Slavery to the Present erhielt Jones 1986 den Bancroft-Preis.[6] 1999 wurde ihr eine MacArthur Fellowship zugesprochen.[7] 2002 wurde sie zum Mitglied der American Academy of Arts and Sciences gewählt.[8]
