Potamon ist eine Gattung von Süßwasserkrabben mit 22 rezenten Arten.[1]

Merkmale
Bei Potamon ist wie bei den anderen Potaminae das achte thorakale Sternit unvollständig durch eine mediane Längslinie geteilt, da sie vorn mit der Naht zwischen siebten und achten Sternit verschmilzt, wo eine Querleiste diese Linie unterbricht.[2] Das zweite Gonopodium ist ungewöhnlich lang und endet mit einer langen sklerotisierten Röhre.[3]
Verbreitung
Potamon ist von Nepal im Osten bis Marokko im Westen verbreitet. In Europa ist die Gattung auf Südeuropa beschränkt, fehlt aber auf der Iberischen Halbinsel und ist in Südfrankreich nur als Neozoon eingeführt. In Nordafrika kommt Potamon dagegen nicht im Osten, also nicht in Ägypten vor. Die Arabische Halbinsel wird nur in der nördlichen Hälfte besiedelt.[1]
