Richard Murray Vaughan

Vaughan schloss 1983 die Schule ab und studierte anschließend Kreatives Schreiben an der University of New Brunswick Saint John.^[1] Im Jahr 1987 erhielt er seinen Bachelor of Art.^[2] An derselben Universität erwarb er später auch seinen Master. Vaughan veröffentlichte als Schriftsteller mehrere Romane, Poesiewerke, Kunstkataloge und Anthologien.^[2] In Toronto wurde er in den 1990er und 2000er Jahren zu einer festen Größe in der Kunst- und Literaturszene der Stadt. Vaughan war als 38. Writer-in-Residence an die University of New Brunswick in seine Heimatprovinz zurückgekehrt, nachdem er seine Karriere in größeren Städten wie Toronto und Berlin aufgebaut hatte.^[3]

Neben seiner Arbeit als Autor hatte er sich auch in der bildenden Kunst einen Namen gemacht. Werke von ihm wurden sowohl in Einzel- als auch in Gruppenausstellungen in kanadischen Orten der Atlantikküste und in Toronto ausgestellt. Er war Mitglied des Künstlerkollektivs „Symbiosis“.^[2]

CTV News schrieb in einem Nachruf über ihn und seine Arbeit: "Vaughan's works often touched on queer stories of coming-of-age and eroticism. He also had a taste for the supernatural and macabre, and was captivated by the world of the celebrity." (Vaughans Werke befassten sich oft mit queeren Geschichten über das Erwachsenwerden und Erotik. Er hatte zudem eine Vorliebe für das Übernatürliche und Makabre und war fasziniert von der Welt der Prominenten.)^[4]
