Sascha Alavi (* 1984) ist ein deutscher Vertriebs- und Marketingforscher und Universitätsprofessor an der Technischen Universität Dortmund.[1]

Werdegang

Sascha Alavi absolvierte 2004 das Abitur am Herder-Gymnasium in Gießen und studierte danach Betriebswirtschaftslehre an der Universität Mannheim. Promoviert hat er an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum, wo er sich 2016 auch habilitierte.[2] Von 2016 bis 2017 lehrte er an der Université de Lausanne als Assistenzprofessor für Marketing, unter anderem in den Bereichen B2B-Marketing und Vertriebsmanagement. Rufe der Toulouse Business School, der Warwick Business School und der Brandenburgischen Technischen Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg lehnte er ab.

Ab September 2017 war Alavi Universitätsprofessor und gemeinsam mit Christian Schmitz und Jan Wieseke Leiter des Sales Management Department an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum, wo er eine Professur für Allgemeine Betriebswirtschaftslehre mit Schwerpunkt Marketing und Vertriebsmanagement innehatte. Dort wird seit 2016 der im europäischen Raum einzige reguläre, universitäre Masterstudiengang „Sales Management" angeboten.[3][4] Ab 2023 leitete er den Lehrstuhl für Marketing und Innovation an der Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg,[5] bevor er zum 1. November 2025 die Professur für Marketing an der TU Dortmund antrat.[6]

Sein wissenschaftliches Engagement reicht über die eigene Forschung hinaus in den Dienst an der Disziplin. Sascha Alavi wirkt als Associate Editor des Journal of Service Research und ist als Gutachter für die führenden Fachzeitschriften des Marketings tätig, darunter das International Journal of Research in Marketing, das Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, das Journal of Retailing und das Journal of Product Innovation Management.

Sascha Alavis Arbeiten sind in führenden internationalen Fachzeitschriften erschienen, darunter das Journal of Marketing, das Journal of Marketing Research, das International Journal of Research in Marketing, das Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, das European Journal of Marketing sowie das Journal of Personal Selling & Sales Management. Diese Publikationstätigkeit hat ihm eine etablierte Stellung in der internationalen Marketingforschung verschafft.

Auszeichnungen

Für seine Dissertation mit dem Titel „Pricing and Leadership Phenomena in Sales Management – A Theoretical and Empirical Investigation of Internal and External Price Enforcement" wurde Alavi unter anderem mit dem „IMU Research for Practice Award" der Universität Mannheim ausgezeichnet. Im Rahmen zahlreicher wissenschaftlicher Publikationen in internationalen Top-Journalen wurde ihm zudem der 'Best Paper in Sales'-Award der American Marketing Association verliehen.

Im WirtschaftsWoche-Ranking 2025 belegte er für den Zeitraum 2020 bis 2024 den 2. Platz unter den Ökonominnen und Ökonomen unter 40 Jahren im deutschsprachigen Raum sowie Platz 12 unter den aktuell forschungsstärksten Ökonominnen und Ökonomen der DACH-Region. 2023 wurde er mit dem Rigor & Relevance Research Award der Swiss Academy of Marketing Science ausgezeichnet. 2024 erhielt er zudem den Best Reviewer Award des Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science.

Forschungsschwerpunkte

Der Forschungsschwerpunkt von Sascha Alavi liegt an der Schnittstelle von Marketing, Vertrieb und Technologie: Er untersucht, wie Unternehmen digitale und KI-gestützte Technologien im Marketing- und Vertriebsmanagement einsetzen, wie Kundenbeziehungen und Preisentscheidungen in Verhandlungssituationen gestaltet werden und wie Business-to-Business-Unternehmen durch Servitization neue Wertschöpfungsmodelle entwickeln. Kennzeichnend für seine Arbeiten ist der Anspruch, theoretische Strenge mit praktischer Relevanz für Unternehmen zu verbinden.
