William Roger Louis

William Roger Louis (* 8. Mai 1936[1]) ist ein US-amerikanischer Historiker und emeritierter Professor der University of Texas at Austin.[2] 2001 amtierte er als Präsident der American Historical Association (AHA)[3], 2011 wurde er in die American Academy of Arts and Sciences gewählt[4].
Louis machte 1959 das Bachelor-Examen an der University of Oklahoma und 1960 den Master-Abschluss an der Harvard University. Dann ging er für längere Zeit nach England und wurde an der University of Oxford, an der er später auch lehrte, zweimal promoviert: 1962 zum Ph.D. und 1979 zum D.Litt. 1999 wurde er zum Commander of the British Empire (CBE) ernannt.[5]
Seine Forschungsinteressen liegen bei der Geschichte des britischen Empire und des Commonwealth, dem Mittleren Osten und Indien.[2]
