Service
The 153rd Illinois Infantry was organized at Chicago, Illinois, and mustered into Federal service on February 27, 1865, for a one-year enlistment.
The Regiment was Assigned to Guard duty on Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad. Till July, 1865, Moved to Memphis, Tennessee, Duty there until September.[1]
The regiment mustered out September 15, 1865.
Total strength and casualties
The regiment suffered 37 enlisted men who died of disease for a total of 37 fatalities.[2]
