  • 1 – The Afrikaner nationalist newspaper Die Transvaler was launched in Johannesburg by Voortrekkerpers, with Hendrik Verwoerd (future prime minister and architect) as its first editor. It was a pro-National Party and played a crucial role in promoting Afrikaner nationalism.[2]
