1950 United States redistricting cycle

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1950 United States redistricting cycle took place following the completion of the 1950 United States census. In all fifty U.S. states, various bodies re-drew state legislative and congressional districts. States that are apportioned more than one seat in the United States House of Representatives also drew new districts for that legislative body. Following the 1950 United States elections, control of redistricting was split between Republicans in 21 states, Democrats in 19 states, and split chambers in 6 states. It was the most recent redistricting cycle in which Republicans held the majority of legislative chambers prior to 2000. The resulting new districts were first implemented for the 1952 elections.
