1973 Greater Manchester County Council election
1973 UK local government election
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Local elections to Greater Manchester County Council, a Metropolitan County Council encompassing Greater Manchester, were held on 12 April 1973. This was the first election held for the authority, having been established by operation of the Local Government Act 1972. The whole council was up for election, with each successful candidate to serve a four-year term of office, expiring in 1977. Following the election the Labour Party gained overall control of the council.[1][2]
